Dental Extractions/Dentures

Posted: Jul 22, 2015

If someone gets their teeth extracted, do they get their dentures that day or do they have to walk around toothless for a spell?

How long does the bleeding last? How long does the pain last?

Thank you for answering.

Mine pulled back teeth first, let me heal, then the front teeth. Placed denture immediately and instructed not to remove until next day. Bleeding not that bad. The pain comes from adjusting to the denture. Had to make many trips back to have it filed a little here, a little there, because at first your gums develop sore areas. Eventually things do settle down. Bonus, no more middle of the night abscessed teeth agony.

Many years ago, I went through Affordable Dentures and got one of their "packages." With them, it is basically first come, first served as to how many procedures they do that day. In the morning, I had x-rays taken, impressions, etc. Went out hand lunch. Went back and they extracted 21 teeth and IMMEDIATELY fit me with the dentures. You really can't eat anything solid for a while and I was back to work the next day, although I looked like I had been in a prize fight -- LOL. Another positive side note, was that over a period of about 2-3 months, I lost about 60 pounds :)

I remember thinking I would be able to eat green grapes right away -- NOPE -- had to wait about a week or two for those. Basically, if you go through something like I did, very soft food at first and VERY tiny pieces.

All I've ever had extracted were wisdom teeth, - so no replacements. However, - sm

despite all the horror stories people like to lay on you when you're just about to get your wisdom teeth out, I found it to be no big deal. It was faster than getting a filling, and I couldn't even feel when the tooth came out. I asked the dentist "So when are you going to yank out the tooth?" He said "Oh, I already did that 10 minutes ago." LOL! No pain afterwards, either. I might have just been lucky, but I think dentistry has come a long way since any of my friends had wisdom tooth extractions back in their 20s. (I was in my early 60s when I had my first one out.)

Update On Dental ProblemAug 17, 2010
Well, I got through the whole bone graft procedure better than I thought I would thanks to an excellent dentist who made my whole face numb.  I didn't feel a thing.  It also helped that I thought of people less fortunate than myself who have to endure much worse on a daily basis.  If anyone ever has to deal with this I wish you luck and, take it from me, it is almost always worse in your own mind that it actually is in reality. ...

Hello...A while ago I thought someone had started a thread about going to the dentist.  I was going to add on to it but couldn't find it, so I will start a new topic. My (former) dentist sends reminder letters to come in for your routine exam and cleaning, as many dentists do.  I really like him and I think he does a really good job, but the wording of the letters always puts me off, it's something like, "you worked hard for your benefits, come in and use your insurance befor ...

At a time when Republicans are trying to roll back certain provisions of the Affordable Care Act (if not the entire law), a liberal advocacy group is looking ahead to the next round of taxpayer-subsidized health care "reform." Families USA says the ACA was a good start, but it has now outlined 19 specific proposals "to improve health care for everyone in our nation." The plan, called Health Reform 2.0, would "improve coverage and extend care." That means making dental coverage universall ...
