Insurance pro-choice? There's a penalty.

Posted: Jan 30, 2013

In 2014, people who choose not to buy insurance and don't quality for an exemption from the mandate will have to pay a fine of $95. The penalty increases to $695 by 2016, and then rises annually based on a pre-determined formula. The "penalty" is payment for the care taxpayers will - provide to them if they end up in an ER

sick or injured in an accident. It just kills some, I know, but: No more free rides, no more just walking away from the bills.

They, and by definition we are talking here about people who can afford it, should just buy insurance, and once the state insurance marketplaces are up and running no doubt a lot more will. Never everyone, of course.

People like to tell other people - what they can afford,

[ In Reply To ..]
what they do or do not need, and what they should do with their money. As if it's any of their business.

It IS my business. I've spent a fortune in both my - own insurance and taxes for healthcare for

others. I pay gladly for those others who really cannot afford it, but that's quite different from freeloaders just not wanting to sacrifice discretionary spending to carry their own weight.

A night out with the girls now and then is so much more fun, and anyway they're not planning on getting sick... And so my money keeps pouring out. And guess what? I could really find happier uses for that money too. But don't.
No, it isn't. - It's still a free country.

My husband and I have paid for our own insurance our whole career, and subsidized the uninsured through our taxes. Obamacare multiplies what we have to pay exponentially, especially by adding those illegal immigrants he's sucking up to.

NO you do not have that right or business - setting the record straight

First and foremost you do not know the reason why people don't or can't pay. Not everyone who doesn't pay into the system are "freeloaders, blah, blah, blah". Some of us are trying to survive on less. I have health insurance but it is not affordable. I am a healthy person, so tell me why I have to pay over $300 AND on top of that don't even get to use the health insurance unless its a catastrophe. Every doctor appoint, medication, eyeglass or dentist bill that I may encure has to be paid for out of my pocket. It's now getting to a point where I'm thinking, gee my work is being shipped overseas by the current administration, so now I don't have that income anymore, yet all my bills are due, no money to pay them, but yet I'm paying over $300 for what? In case a meteor falls out of the sky on me at the same time I'm walking down the street? Um, I say bills first, then I would like to eat even if it's just a bowl of porridge from breakfast to dinner time.

So I don't appreciate people coming on here assuming they know what other people are doing with their money and if it's not up to your standards will call them freeloaders.

Yes, your money keeps pouring out (thank Obama for that) as does mine as long as I keep paying for a catastraphe policy I will never use, but that doesn't give us the right or is any of our business what they can or cannot afford or should be spending their money on. What's next are you going to go into their refridge and determine what they can and cannot afford to eat.
I so agree with you on this! - and have said so many times, only to

be bashed into the ground for saying so. I am not willing to just fork over $300 a month for something I am not able to use either. In my opinion, "catastrophic insurance" is NOT health insurance, because you can never meet the deductible (unless you go to the doctor every single day for some perceived illness), and if something bad does happen to you, per chance, they only pay for certain things, but they are happy to take your money every month and stick it into their pockets, or new buildings, or luxury vehicles, or company-wide bonuses, etc. Nope....not me!! I pay my own bills, medical or otherwise, so nobody else has to pay for me when I get sick...which is rarely.
With Obamacare you will be forced to give up...sm - VTMT

your catastrophic policy (because they will no longer be allowed) and be able to buy a policy that will actually reimburse you for all those medical expenses you incur without being on death's door.

BTW, President Obama did not send your job overseas. They were going there long before Obama was president.

"Forced" to give something up in order to "be able" to purchase something else - guess we will have to make sure our wants and needs coincide with what the government wants us to have or feels we should have - I am so glad the government is here to take care of me - I would hate to have to think for myself and make my own life decisions

You should be grateful. The progressive Democrat - administrations of Johnson and
[ In Reply To ..]
Roosevelt and Truman brought you Social Security and Medicare, plus other programs that have benefited you and yours ever since. Your parents and grandparents may have opposed them, in which case you would really, really owe us. Depends on how much you would have liked giving up your mobility to stay in ? and sharing a home with them, or having them spend a few decades in your house because the vicissitudes of life cleaned out whatever savings they might once have had. Who would have gotten to sleep in the living room?

BTW, while you're spitting on these societal blessings, how're your own retirement savings? Modern healthcare has added a couple of decades to your lifespan, and Obamacare may well add those 10-15 additional years that people with good health insurance have over those with limited coverage. No answer required, of course. I am quite sure, though, that you've spent 0 hours lying awake at night wondering if you could someday end up sleeping wrapped in a blanket on a sidewalk.

For that you COULD thank progressive policies. If you couldn't bring yourself quite that far, you COULD wonder, just wonder if Obamacare might just be yet another great benefit an advanced society does for itself.
Wow - can I have some of the Kool-Aid you've been drinking. On second thought, no thanks - I like living in reality -

Okay, let me restate and "newly" state a few things - setting the record straight.
[ In Reply To ..]
I will be "forced to give up"? Excuse me, this is my life, I am an American citizen. I will not be "forced" to do anything, PERIOD!!! Is my insurance plan crappy, yeah you bet it is. Would I like a better one? Of course I would. I've been on the search and have not found one yet. But under NO circumstances WHATSOEVER will I be "forced" to do or buy anything. If you like being forced to buy things for your own personal use then you go to North Korea or China or Veniezuela, Cuba, any of those countries where they "force" you to do what they want. See how much you like it.

If someone tells me I have a choice and there are better choices if I want then that's another thing. Last thing I knew this was America. America is not a communist country (at least not yet) that "forces" people to buy a product they do not wish to own.

BTW, my job wasn't shipped overseas during the Bush years or because of anything that was going on in his administration. In fact during the Bush years my hospital was doing very well. My job was shipped overseas during the Obama administration, his policies, his signature, and because of "obamacare". More like "Obama doesn't care". Nice try on that one. Fortunately more of us are awake and do realize what is going on in politics to your dislike.

Think we have told posters here over and over to stop blaming Bush for stuff that is happening under Obama and that Obama is signing papers/orders for and decisions he is making and his administration is. Not President Bush. Ohhhh, not even a nice try.
ONLY people who can afford it pay this tax. Stop - lying to yourself and others. We don't
[ In Reply To ..]
have that "flat tax" so many want. Fortunately. Under our tax system, if a person or family has a decent gross income but special expenses that render them effectively poor, they can DEDUCT them and end up below the income required to pay this tax.

Wise up. Stop embracing lies floated by your enemies. They'd leave you with nothing but the need to work for subsistence wages if if it weren't for the people you dislike so much. Not that I expect a thank you. Ever.

And if you're one of those who's been content to sponge off the rest of us as needed and having to start paying your own way is the source of your discontent: Tough tiddlies.
I'm not sure what your post has to do with mine and why - you are so angry at me
[ In Reply To ..]
Only people who can afford it pay what? What am I lying about? That I pay over $300? That it's a catastrophic policy?

What flat tax? What does that have to do with what I wrote? What special expenses to I have? That I bought a pair of glasses? I know if you rent you don't get to deduct medical expenses unless its over a certain amount? but I didn't write any of that in my message.

Wise up to what? Stop embracing lies floated by "my enemies". Just who are my enemies? I don't watch the news, so not sure if you are referring to a news agency, a politician, an actor or singer or who? Also I don't have any enemies and if I did how would you know who they are.

The rest of it I just have no idea what the heck you are talking about.

Oh yeah, by the way, I don't sponge off of anybody. I pay my bills and i don't expect anybody to pay them for me.

Maybe you should take a "chill pill", but doubt it would be covered under Obamacare.
I was paying $600 a month for insurance - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
($7200/year) and did so for 8 years. That's $57,600!!! We were both healthy and never hospitalized.

Then my husband had to undergo an expensive operation, but we weren't worried because we had insurance. Then we got the bill from the hospital--insurance only paid 1/100th of the bill which didn't put a dent in it and didn't even come close to what we paid in over those 8 years.

Bunch of baloney.

Sounds like insurance company is corrupt, not - government (nm)

you're stage II of a particularly virulent type, and the drug company is charging $80K just for a single course of the best new drug for you?

You sold your house and emptied out your retirement account to get this far, but now you need tamoxifen, surveillance, and very possibly treatment for recurrence. Now what?

With proper insurance you would still have been in your own home, instead of renting an apartment somewhere. Or, of course, dead for lack of treatment--like so many.
TH, I would really look into that before paying one red cent - sm

PSU Did Not Get The Death Penalty BecauseJul 23, 2012
The NCAA says the Death Penality does not fit in this case.  The FOOTBALL TEAM would have to be guilty of crimes committed while on probation.  The FOOTBALL TEAM did not commit any crimes.  Current and incoming football players are released to play at other universities if they so desire, or are now "free agents."  I so agree with this.  It is a shame that they will feel the affects of the punishment to the university, but there is no getting around it.  It had to b ...

Obamacare: Penalty On Top Of PremiumJan 27, 2013
"The Affordable Care Act — 'Obamacare' to its detractors — allows health insurers to charge smokers buying individual policies up to 50 percent higher premiums starting next Jan. 1. "For a 55-year-old smoker, the penalty could reach nearly $4,250 a year. A 60-year-old could wind up paying nearly $5,100 on top of premiums." Using their logic, there should be penalties on top of premiums for alcohol drinkers, overeaters, pot smokers, sugar lovers, coffee drinkers, etc., etc. ...

Why Are Supporters Of The Death PenaltyOct 01, 2015
I know the system can be flawed. I know sometimes the wrong person is convicted of stealing, or whatever. But, when the penalty has escalated to the death penalty, any doubt, any evidence, no matter when it is found, nothing matters, it all should be considered and we should never put a person to death if there is any doubt at all. So many seem so eager and interested in the process that the actual cases do not really matter. This is such a vengeful society, at least when it suits. ...

US Execution Capital Reconsiders The Death PenaltyDec 06, 2010
New York - On Monday, Dec. 6, a district court in Texas will be asked – for the first time in that U.S. state's history – to decide whether the death penalty is unconstitutional based on the "disproportionately high risk of wrongful convictions" in Texas. He has not yet been convicted, but prosecutors say they would seek the ...

Do You Think Penn State Football Program Should Get The Death Penalty?Jul 16, 2012
Haven't made up my mind.  I see both sides of the argument.  First of all, so very many people will suffer who had nothing to do with the child sex abuse cover-up.  In reading arguments for and against, perhaps it is true that the persons responsible and or involved in any way should be fired, jailed, labeled as sex offenders, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP, and the football program should remain intact, as it is not fair to punish the ...
