so my insurance won't change?

Posted: Oct 5, 2013

This morning I attended a meeting at the hospital where I work regarding our 2014 benefits.  Yes, I have insurance through my employer, and yes, I am happy with it, but imagine my surprise when I found out how much the cost of my coverage will increase for 2014 because we are self insured and our hospital was levied a fee of 1,000,000 dollars (yup, one million dollars) for fiscal 2014 to help fund the exchanges.  Of course, guess who pays that?  Yes, all of employees.  so that statement about saying if I have insurance I can keep and it won't change....um, BS!  This fee is for 2014 only and goes up annually, much like the fines for not purchasing insurance.  Therefore, each year I will pay more and more and more to fund exchanges that I am not in favor of to begin with.  Such an irony.

In a simliar vein, UPS announces that it will now only provide primary coverage, which means that the thousands of UPS employees will no longer be able to provide coverage for their spouse or dependents through the employer's health plan.  Each of these people will now be paying UPS for their employee coverage while being forced to use the exchanges for their spouse and other dependents.  Again, what was that statement about if you have insurance you will be able to keep it and that will not change?  Mr. Obama, you are a liar!

I do believe that the ACA will do far more damage than good to health care for middle class hardworking people in this country.  Those who will benefit the most are those who would prefer to have their oversized government take care of them rather than take care of themselves.  And I am not faulting, not would I ever fault, those who are truly unable to take care of themselves.  I would never begrudge them help or withhold coverage from them, only the able-bodied but just too lazy or selfilsh to put forth the effort

;

I agree with everything you said. I knew about - UPS spouses were dropped of ins.s.

I strongly believe there is way more to this Obamacare than just getting all the people covered with insurance. So this includes illegals too, right?

My insurance doubled in costs and paycheck went way down a month. Most people cannot afford food on the table and when they find out they have to pay at least $100 to $150 for one person a month, how are they going to do that if they can barely get food?

This is the way for the government to own you and find out about you. Our pres wants it all. I wonder what he will do when he is not president anymore and cannot fly that plane he loves with the chief on board who will cook him anything he wants.

So this includes illegals, WRONG. - sm

They cannot access coverage through Obamacare. GOP made sure of that. USPS did not drop coverage on all spouses, only the ones who have healthcare coverage offered through their own employers. In the case of USPS, any cost cutting measures they are taking are primarily driven by the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006, an underhanded effort to put more than 522,000 postal workers (many of whom belong to unions) out of work, passed by GOP Congress and signed by W. To their credit, the USPS, while significantly crippled in the aftermath, has managed to stay afloat in spite of the destrructionists' best efforts.

Not sure I understand - cj

i didn't say USPS did anything. I said UPS. But I do apologize for my error. If you meant UPS, you are correct. It is those spouses not eligible for coverage under another plan. However, 99% of the time a couple will choose one over another because a)the cost is lower, or b}the coverage is superior. either way, when they are forced to change, that benefit is erased. They will incur higher costs or suffer lesser care. They may not be able to even use the same primary care or facilities.

This is because employers are worried that premiums will rise. And employers are required to pay a fee for every person on their plans, starting at $63 a head next year. The federal Department of Health and Human Services has said the fee would help with the transition as the American health care system accepts many new sick, previously uninsured people.

UMMMMM. Who said this wasn't socialized medicine or heading towards it? of course it isn't socialized when the hard earned dollars of working people are handed over to everyone else so we all have what the other guy has, is it? Duh. Where is the incentive in that? Answer: There is none. Again, the people will benefit the most are not the middle class working people but the people who want someone else to take care of them, and Mr. Obama has handed them the silver platter.
Well, for starters, UPS is a private corp whose shares are - bought and sold

on the stock market every single working day. It, nor any of its competitors, including the USPS, is not owned by the government. Second, the federal government did not tell it charge a $63-per head fee on its employee family plans. They decided to do that all by themselves. I suspect their desire to maximize profits for themselves and their shareholders was their main motivation. Yeah, capitalism!

Looks like I should have put capitalism and socialism on that list of things the TP cannot distinguish between.

That $63 was not their choice. It is the fee they are levied to help fund the insurance exchanges. These fees are levied against the employers by the govt.
$63 - NK
[ In Reply To ..]
The fee is $5.25/month, $63/year, and will go down each year until it is phased out in 2017.
Wrong again. - A temporary fee
[ In Reply To ..]
slated for phase-out and assessed on the group plan EMPLOYERS, not individual workers, is not tantamount to socialism. It is the company's decision whether or not to absorb the fee, pay part of it, or pass it on to their employees. Guess which one they chose?

Hint: Cha-ching.
Save your breath 'conjunctiva" - these brainless wonders - embracing Obamacare
[ In Reply To ..]
Are far too stupid to get. The first thing they need to do is check the mental servece coverage under Obamacare. No matter which way you slice it, the American worker is getting screwed. My insurance peremium shot through the roof - almost as much as my mortgage. BTW - those idiots need to check out the fine print for susidies. Obama nothing but a hack, and an evil one.
Everyone should check the - policy choices
[ In Reply To ..]
to review which serveces [sic] are covered, then determine if they qualify for susidies [sic] before deciding on which peremium [sic] they find most comfortable. Then their 'conjunctiva" [sic] can rest easily at night when their heads hit the pillow. This assessment of Obamacare and the president is about as accurate as the post's grammar, spelling, punctuation and proofing.

Game Change On HBOMar 12, 2012
I watched this film on HBO last weekend.  Somebody obviously does not like Sarah Palin!!!  They certainly made her to appear very ignorant and stubborn with campaign manager, Steve Schmidt.  Evidently John McCain did not like they way they portrayed Palin on film either.  He says he does not plan on viewing this film, as it is an assault on her character.  I am certainly not a fan of Sarah Palin, but feel disturbed after watching this.  This just tears her apart -- ...

People will say just about anything to get you to see things their way, but as it is said, the proof is in the pudding. When the actions are not congruent with the words, you know you've been fooled. Change Comes: After 4 Years, Jan 20, 2013
, January 19, 2013 Barack and Michelle Obama have spent more than a thousand days on display before the nation’s eyes, but the personal changes they have undergone can be hard to detect. Up close, though, those who know the Obamas say they can see an accumulation of small shifts in the president and the first lady since they walked the inaugural parade route four years ago. The man who wanted to change the nature of Washington now warns job candidates that it is hard to get any ...

Chores For ChangeMay 16, 2013
Just seeing an article on TV where saying good to have children do chores around the house and rather than giving them money, to set certain prices for doing 1 chore as opposed to the other. Say the child feeds the dog, 25 cents a day or does dusting, 25 cents a day. Just wondering if any one here has done things this way instead of just a handout and if so, what did you set up and how did you work this. We are talking past the toddler set and before they leave home age. ...

Climate ChangeOct 15, 2016
I suppose some will think this belongs on the Faith Board, but it is also a political issue.  I am so sick of hearing about climate change and all that we can do as human beings about it.  These politicians should read their Bible; that is if they even own one, and they would soon discover that man did not create this world and man is not going to change what God made.  There has been climate change since the beginning of time and just because we, who are now living in these times ...

Change Of Location In CharlotteSep 06, 2012
First, don't jump on me because I don't really care about the location change or why it was made, but Juan Williams stated last night on Fox news that it was indeed because they could not be sure of getting enough people to fill the stadium. I don't think that necessarily means there were not enough people wanting to attend, but some people were probably backing out themselves because of the possibility of bad weather, the travel, and maybe just in general for one reason ...

Book Review - Game ChangeFeb 10, 2010
