Air shows! My husband, his father, and his grandfather - SM

[ In Reply To ..]
were all in aviation, my husband jet engine mechanic, his father pilot/flight instructor, and his grandfather was an aviation engineer and was on the team that helped design Apollo 13. So needless to say air shows are mandatory for all the wives. They are interesting to a point, but eventually I get sick of looking up at the sky constantly. Jets, planes, and space stuff is interesting at first, but then I'm like okay I'm over it.

Golf, fishing shows, hunting shows, Antique Roadshow.

I have a confession to make. I watch "Hoarders." It fascinates me....I wonder if something might be wrong with me? Well.. there are lots of things wrong with me but to watch that over and over.. I dunno.

Antique Roadshow? - Really?

[ In Reply To ..]
That's a show I really like! I am fascinated to see the different and very unusual things the people bring in. I am a big fan of art, however, and that may explain it.

1. Car racing. There is just something about a car driving around in a circle over and over that is just really boring.

2. Boats driving up and down the river. We have that in our town every single holiday. The boat drives up the river while everyone says weeeeee. Then it turns around and drives back down while everyone goes oooooohhhhhhh.

3. Fireworks show. Oh can we see the pretty lights....ooooooohhhhhh (give me a gun and knife show any day) :-)

4. Not boring, but what I hate is events with large crowds of people.

5. Watching the weather channel. My step-father has this on 24 hours a day.

6. Government channels - tuned into one just to see what it was about and why they have their own channel. I fell asleep after 5 minutes.

7. Most sitcoms. Something about canned laughter just doesn't do it for me.

Hope I didn't insult anyone. Weird thing is I find country & western music concerts boring, but I love chamber music.

You must be my long lost twin... - but let me add..

[ In Reply To ..]
Any kind of bridal shower, baby shower, engagement party, etc. Too much estrogen in one room and just way too irritating to sit there and ooohhh and ahhh over a bunch of gifts that the person of honor picked out for herself.

oh my gosh, I DETEST showers or - congratulatory parties

[ In Reply To ..]
Birthday parties and wedding receptions I can do.

For TV, it's talk shows and baseball.

How could I forget "Nasty-Car!"

The very worst of the worst for boring shows.

As far as Antique Road Show... It really isn't all that bad, but it's certainly not my first choice. I love art, too, but just something about the show I didn't care for.

I find most television shows repulsive. I don't have cable or satellite TV anymore. When "reality" shows and adult cartoons started to dominate prime time I had enough. Those shows I think make people stupider. I rent movies or go to see them in a theater. I watch my local news and the national news and since I don't have 2000 channels anymore I have much more constructive time to do...constructive things! LOL! I have a very organized and clean home now! I had a bad TV habit, used to watch documentaries and the history channel. I actually think that I watched so much TV I had depression and a TV "addiction". Used to plan work, dinner and activities around "my shows". Pathetic (I know... ) I'm much better now!

Best thing I ever did! - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Same here. I canceled my satellite TV about a month ago. Never realized how much I depended on it for distraction. I still miss it sometimes, but I have so much more time for other things, reading, meditating, cleaning too. I do watch Netflix online on the weekends a little bit and some Hulu, but not like before. I feel like I have a life now, not comparing myself to what I see on TV. Felt like I was watching other people doing what I wanted to do instead of doing it myself.

Going without a TV - MTtoo

[ In Reply To ..]
A few years ago, we decided to go without TV and did so for almost a year. I had time for so many other things, too, and didn't miss it nearly as much as I thought I would. My husband at the time and I actually talked a lot, read, played cards and other games. I had much more time for gardening and lots of other stuff. Can't really recall why we broke down and turned it back on but since I've been without it before, it's really not too dreadful to think about going without it again.

I haven't had TV for several years now and don't miss it a bit. I live out in the boonies and the only way to get any channels is with satellite TV and I don't want to pay for it. Plus I have a very old TV and would have to buy a new one. I listen to the radio a lot and can watch stuff on the internet like the Masters LOL!

Casey Anthony Trial You Say Boring? MTs Who Typed And Worked In Psychiatry Find It Boring?Jun 26, 2011
I find everything interesting and they cover it on HLN with all the professionals whom we have all worked with.  THEY all have the titles, yet look at how nobody can even see a lie from the truth. I love their viewpoints.  Even Dr. Drew does not have the answer! I remember years ago when a psychiatrist was trying to get it across to the legal system that you cannot mix the 2, and how right she was.  The court arena is a totally different game with different rules from psychiatry.& ...

"Who Killed American Unions?" Powerful Graph Shows Shows Middle Class IncomeJan 17, 2013
From The Atlantic: "Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker doesn't like unions, and unions don't like him. But the most remarkable thing about Walker's relationship to labor isn't that he thinks unions are worthless -- most Republicans agree -- but that he thinks about them, at all. Today, unions have been swept into dusty corners of the U.S. workforce, such as Las Vegas casino cleaners and New York City hotel staff. For much of the 20th century, things were different. A ...

Poll Of NRA Members Shows 74% SupportDec 15, 2012
Not much lower than 82% for the general population, but definitely MUCH higher than the NRA leadership. I've forgotten the number, but most NRA members, normal citizens who undergo them themselves, actually believe gun purchases require background checks. (BTW, eBay and Craig's List do not ...

Cooking Shows, Who Do You Love? Hate?Feb 14, 2013
The Pioneer Woman is my favorite. All her foods, casseroles, desserts look absolutely delicious, full of flavor, rich and wonderful. All her shows have some sort of fun theme and she just looks like she really enjoys herself. I also love her ranch, her family, and her life-style in general. A very comforting show about simple pleasures of family and good food. My least favorite is Trisha's Southern Kitchen. I have seen her cook with Paula, and I enjoyed her then, but when she spun ...

Polling Shows The Tea Party Is Actually Authoritarian (and StronglyOct 25, 2012
From Discover Magazine, by Chris Mooney The New York Times just ran an oped by social scientists Robert Putnam and David Campbell, reporting on polling results about the Tea Party. This dovetails very closely with a discussion we’ve been having here, and provides additional evidence suggesting that this movement is not libertarian: So what do Tea Partiers have in common? They are overwhelmingly white, but even compared to other white Republicans, they had a low regard for immigrants and ...

"GOP Platform Through The Years Shows The Party's ShiftSep 06, 2012
This article from the Washington Post is easy reading, very interesting, not offensive to anyone, and gives a quick historic overview through our lifetimes. As it says, "What it means to be a Republican has changed enormously over the past half-century." The platforms of 1980 and 1992 are the biggies, the big "pivot points."  The watershed platform of 1980 introduces tax cuts and an increasingly critical attitude toward government. “The Republican Party declares war on governm ...
