cooking shows, who do you love? hate?

Posted: Feb 14, 2013

The Pioneer Woman is my favorite. All her foods, casseroles, desserts look absolutely delicious, full of flavor, rich and wonderful. All her shows have some sort of fun theme and she just looks like she really enjoys herself. I also love her ranch, her family, and her life-style in general. A very comforting show about simple pleasures of family and good food. My least favorite is Trisha's Southern Kitchen. I have seen her cook with Paula, and I enjoyed her then, but when she spun off into her own show, her and her dishes fell flat. Her recipes look flavorless and a bit bizarre, and the interactions with guests are always awkward and a bit forced. Any favorites? ;

I especially like the nighttime contests - Chopped, Top Chef, Worst Chef in America, etc. Not too crazy about the new network program, Taste. Can't stand Bobby Flay, Emeril, and most of the original programs.

I love Chopped! - sm

I've made so many things based on watching her show, and they are always delicious. I really like the way she uses a lot of fresh ingredients and usually puts a lighter spin on traditional recipes. Her chicken chili is scrumptious!

My mom and I watch Ina Garten together - wheres_my_job

She's more relaxed than Martha Stewart, who is very stiff. Don't know what that's about.

with the cooks tasting their dish and then using the same utensil again and again sticking back down into the food? The dishes are usually made for more than just 1 person, i.e. serving out as a picnic, a wedding rehearsal, family gathering. I guess this lady who lives on the "farm" has her own rules. ...

"Who Killed American Unions?" Powerful Graph Shows Shows Middle Class IncomeJan 17, 2013
From The Atlantic: "Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker doesn't like unions, and unions don't like him. But the most remarkable thing about Walker's relationship to labor isn't that he thinks unions are worthless -- most Republicans agree -- but that he thinks about them, at all. Today, unions have been swept into dusty corners of the U.S. workforce, such as Las Vegas casino cleaners and New York City hotel staff. For much of the 20th century, things were different. A ...

So Bored With Cooking The Same Things Over And OverDec 18, 2010
Sad to say that I end up cooking the same five or six things every week. I think my taste buds have atrophied. Anyone have any ideas for something really good (also fairly fast and easy to make)? My husband doesn't like things that are too spicy (100% Norwegian--family story was that his mother still had the same spices she got for her wedding 50 years on the spice rack ) but I'm looking for a change. ...

Wish Me Luck. I'm Cooking For Thanksgiving For The First Time In YearsNov 19, 2010
I used to make Thanksgiving dinner for 15 people, friends and family, until the kids left home and mom and her boyfriend died, and friends moved away. Then there was just 2 of us. With my job, working Thanksgiving day was no big deal and I always worked that day, so DH would order takeout turkey dinners  from a local restaurant so I wouldn't have to worry about cooking. This year, there was a good price on turkey. Since I am not working, I decided to make dinner.   ...

Tea Party Republicans Love Love Love Ted CruzOct 18, 2013
even among Republicans, according to a survey from Pew Research. But the group is still potent within the Republican Party — which means that Sen. Ted Cruz gets a bit of good news on an otherwise bleak day. "Tea Party" is a necessarily vague affiliation. There are members of Tea Party groups, of course, but Pew largely had to allow poll respondents to self identify. And a lot of Republicans did so. About four-in-ten (41%) Republicans and Republican leaners agree with the Tea Pa ...

Psychology Of Hate, 7 Stages Of Hate.Aug 27, 2012
I got to wondering once again what is behind some of the behaviors we see on a lot of forums, so I went looking. This link discusses one model, explained by a former FBI behavioral analyst, that is easy to apply to on-line forum discussions, where behaviors would, of course, play out in the first four stages. (The discussion on skinhead groups can be skipped over, if desired, with the actual 7 stages explained below.) It was the last section, though, on how indulging in hate tends to play out ...

he was shot in the chest from "intermediate" range.  His only other injury was a very small (no more than 1/4 inch) abrasion on the left ring finger below the knuckle. A medical report on Martin’s alleged killer 28-year-old George Zimmerman, prepared by his personal physician the day after Martin’s shooting in Sanford, Fla., on Feb. 26, found that the Neighborhood Watch volunteer suffered a likely broken nose, swelling, two black eyes and cuts to the scalp.  Somethin ...

Poll Of NRA Members Shows 74% SupportDec 15, 2012
Not much lower than 82% for the general population, but definitely MUCH higher than the NRA leadership. I've forgotten the number, but most NRA members, normal citizens who undergo them themselves, actually believe gun purchases require background checks. Although the Brady law requires background checks be conducted by commercial gun dealers, at least 40% of gun sales  (last study 15 years old) are private sales not involving background checks. (BTW, eBay and Craig's List do not ...

Polling Shows The Tea Party Is Actually Authoritarian (and StronglyOct 25, 2012
From Discover Magazine, by Chris Mooney The New York Times just ran an oped by social scientists Robert Putnam and David Campbell, reporting on polling results about the Tea Party. This dovetails very closely with a discussion weâve been having here, and provides additional evidence suggesting that this movement is not libertarian: So what do Tea Partiers have in common? They are overwhelmingly white, but even compared to other white Republicans, they had a low regard for immigrants and ...

I Firmly Believe In God, But Find Shows Such As Ancient Aliens Very Upsetting. Feb 22, 2012
It is very disheartening and upsetting that these shows are trying to disrupt the Christian world and poison us with their crazy theories about how life took shape on our planet.   I must admit I was fascinated with their show, but realized it is an Atheist's attempt to make Christianity seem like a fantasy and that God really does not exist.  These people are very clever and master manipulators of the truth.  They are very convincing and I find it very sad to think they prob ...

"GOP Platform Through The Years Shows The Party's ShiftSep 06, 2012
This article from the Washington Post is easy reading, very interesting, not offensive to anyone, and gives a quick historic overview through our lifetimes. As it says, "What it means to be a Republican has changed enormously over the past half-century." The platforms of 1980 and 1992 are the biggies, the big "pivot points."  The watershed platform of 1980 introduces tax cuts and an increasingly critical attitude toward government. “The Republican Party declares war on governm ...
