Do yall say the blessing at your Thanksgiving Dinner?

We always do! My hubby who is head of our family not only in age and wisdom at 77 always says the blessing ~ We have a lot to be thankful for!

Absolutely! Someone says grace, then if anyone else has something to say, we take turns! It's an important ritual and tradition in our family. It solidifies and unites us.

I don't care who it offends, in MY house we thank the Lord for our blessings and we pray for others. You do not have to participate of course, but we will not discontinue this practice for anyone. It is not meant to make anyone uncomfortable, if they do.

We are Christians and always say Merry Christmas. That will never stop. I have great respect for my friends who are Jews and Athiest, and do not debate their beliefs. In turn, they do not debate mine. They still show up and we all enjoy being together, as it should be.

One of my best friends said at their Christmas gathering they eat Christmas dinner, and before any gift opening (she has three little grandchildren) they bring out a small birthday cake with candles. The little ones sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. I just think this is precious. She said her family has done this for many years.

We don't believe that way. When we lived near family who was very "church oriented" they always said grace, but they gathered in a circle and everyone held hands. It just really creaped me out, and it didn't feel sincere.

I guess I'm just mixed on feelings. I'm of no religion. Pagan if anything (please don't tell me I need to get religious - did that for 22 years and it got me nowhere). Right I'm thankful for certain things but I'm also upset at the creator for putting me here in this *)$% life.

When I feel I should be thankful for something I am and I express my feelings silently. I don't think it's necessary to openly display those feelings because it was ingrained in me since birth (but those are just my feelings). And only twice a year at Thanksgiving and Xmas. Seems so phony - again only my feeling.

Our family has SO much to be thankful for. Just having good food to eat 3 times a day is more than some unfortunate people have. I am also very thankful to live in a country that still allows freedom of religion. I know of a man in Iran who converted to Christianity and led some other muslims likewise...he is in prison waiting execution. We take so much for granted.

We don't actually pray (I do silently), but for the past few years I ask each person to mention just one thing he or she is thankful for. Some family members opt out, but some seem glad to mention something.

Really? I am 1/2 Cherokee. Yes, awful things happened the native people in this country. However, I am still greatful to live in the country and I am thankful every day for my blessings.

yes, we do. We say a prayer and ask for a blessing on every meal . . . not just one day a year.

Most certainly. Praying over the food is the highlight of the day for me. My nephew also told me to remember to pray before EVERY meal (as I often forget as I am busy and eat on the run). He said if you pray before every meal, it helps with maintaining a healthy weight. I'm putting that to practice too.

I live in the south. How does Thanksgiving dinner differ from the northern states to the sourthern ones? From east to west? Here in the south we have the usual turkey like everyone does. With a big skillet of Spanish rice in progress, I'm gettin' a Texas-size hankering for some beefy, cheesey stuffed bell peppers. I'm looking to make something for dinner and at a loss for ideas. I've got a zuccini from my garden and a little bit of brocoli left. I know it's a little early but i'm a planner. What do you usually do at Thanksgiving? This will be new for me as it is now just me and my 10-y/o son. Our OKC homeless shelter has an adjunct service to help take care of pets of homeless people. I frequently donate to that. While the homeless people get their Thanksgiving meal, they need people to volunteer taking care of the pets, feeding them, playing with them, etc. I'm not a people person. On Thanksgiving I cooked for my cats, then worked and ran out of work after 4 hours and watched TV and took PTO. We got together the day after and I spent the day with my sister's family. Every year I make turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, homemade bread and pumpkin pie. The daughters will bring another dessert or two. All these recipes sound great - but I can't eat them. I have to (want to) get my weight down - haven't baked anything since July, food diary, all that jazz.
