What's a good conditioner for fine, limp, tangly hair?

I've always had troublesome hair - thin, fine, limp, tangles at every turn of my head. Conditioners are a must or I could never comb it at all. Most conditioners are too thin, runny and wimpy for my hair, and it takes me forever to comb it out (my hair is really long, down to my fanny, and straight as a board). Every time I find a product that works in my hair, they take it off the market, it drives me nuts! My current product is Pantene conditioner (the thickest consistency conditioner I can find), but Pantene is getting just too expensive to use! The store brand knock-offs of Pantene just won't do the job, I've tried them. I'm tempted to get a can of Crisco shortening and try that, since my hair demands thick, greasy globs of goo rinsed out of it immediately prior to getting combed.

Anybody out there with my hair type who can recommend a cheaper product than Pantene?

but recently my aunt turned me on to Palmer's and it is WONDERFUL. There is shampoo, conditioner and this shine spray stuff. It is in the ethnic section of your local Wal-Mart. I love that stuff. The conditioner is great!

Shampoo your hair and rinse it.

Then make a final rinse with lukewarm water to which you have added salt and lemon juice: The lemon juice gives shine (if your hair is brown or blond it give highlights) and the salt gives body to the hair. Leave it in, do not rinse it out.
Try it and post how it worked for you.

You would be amazed how many "food items" and things you find in your household are excellent and cheap alternatives for expensive, synthetic cosmetics.
Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide are 2 of those, among many others.

in the shower with you and comb through your hair while the conditioner is in your hair. This works for me, as my hair is very knotty (is that how you spell that?) too. I use salon products because I get my hair colored. So not sure what to recommend in that regard, but the comb trick really helps. I also use a spray detangler that you would use on kids' hair if I don't comb while in the shower. I use the suave stuff in the green bottle with the Octopus on the bottle. Works for me.

You can use a tablespoon of regular sugar in a glass of water and comb through your hair for some body. Learned that in beauty school years ago.

I have color treated hair, have had color treated hair for about 8 to 10 years. My hair just seems dry/brittle like somtimes. I would grow my natural color out, but I'm a lot gray, and then dark brown. I'd probably look about 10 years older if I did that. I'm 38, not ready to look older. What brand of shampoo/conditioner/hair products do you use? Do you switch brands often or do you stick with just one all the time? For those of you with dogs that shed (like my Golden), can you share you grooming schedule and favorite brush? I've used to use a rake but found a tool that's cheaper than a Furminator (sp?) and doesn't rip the skin. It's made by Oster and called a Shedzilla. I am devastated right now. I had long, thick beautiful hair and over the past couple of months I have noticed a big change in it. Now it is falling out! Long strands just letting loose. I know they say to only wash your hair every other day but I have never been able to do that. I shampoo/condition my hair every day as I cannot stand the feeling of my hair being dirty or greasy-looking or whatever. Can anyone recommend a product that will cover gray/white roots without turning my hair a pink color? Battling insomnia last night, I watched an infomercial for this product and the thought behind it makes sense to keep one's hair at its healthiest (especially if platinum blond, like I currently am). I have long hair that usually takes about 3 boxes of dye. I usually only do it about 2-3 times a year and do the all over color each time because my color tends to fade. I think hair dye might be one of those things that you get what you pay for. I usually buy the Colorsilk ($2-$3 at Walmart) because it is cheaper and I am usually broke. I actually have Loreal in a box but also went out a year ago and bought the individual products. I finally have the nerve to do it as my hair is dull mouse brown and long - and now looking lifeless and bland. If any of you have problems with brittle hair and dry skin, try a shower filter. The water in your shower is filled with chemicals, minerals, and the same or more amount of chlorine as swimming pool water. I just purchased an Aquasana shower filter. In the latest issue of one of my dog journals, there's an article about a place in CA, Matter of Trust, that's collecting dog and human hair to use for helping clean up some of the oil. Makes sense, since hair absorbs oil (which is why we shampoo). They stuff iit in nylon stockings and tie the stockings together. Hair salons and pet groomers would be a great source for this. I believe it's called the No No??? It is a hair removal system that supposedly you can use for legs, underarms, and EVERYTHING.
