What brand of shampoo/conditioner do you use?

Posted: Jul 1, 2010

What brand of shampoo/conditioner/hair products do you use? Do you switch brands often or do you stick with just one all the time?

I ran out of shampoo this morning and had to grab a bottle out of the cupboard that wasn't the same brand as the conditioner that I was going to use. Just wondering what brand of shampoo everyone else uses.

I currently have Dove conditioner and Pantene shampoo in my shower. I switch brands all of the time.

I tend to buy the cheapest, fanciest shampoo/conditioner I can find haha! I use Pantene alot for conditioner, and will switch Shampoos frequently. I'm trying Dove for the first time and it's not too shabby. Thought I wouldn't like it.... but I do. :) I like Tresseme too.

You're better off with the Dove. Pantene has an outrageous amount of wax in it that fools you into thinking your hair is soft, but it's actually building up and eventually causes really severe breakage. If you really like the Pantene, make sure you use a good clarifying shampoo once a week to get the wax off and then you should be okay. I believe the Dove products contain less wax though and are probably a better choice in the long-run.

Somewhere I read that a dirty (or clean) trade secret is that body wash, liquid hand soap and shampoo are all basically the same product, just marketed differently. It's all soap in liquid form.
Glycol distearate (wax) makes the difference - Yep

You got it...the same basic formulation as body wash, etc., except Pantene is very generous with the glycol distearate, which is a wax with some opalescence that imparts the appearance of shine and healthy hair but it builds up like crazy and then the hair starts snapping off.

Like I said, not too bad if you use a good clarifying shampoo about once a week to cleanse off the old wax buildup and start fresh, but it can cause a lot of damage if allowed to build up.

It does smell good, though, lol!

Thanks for the heads up. My hair has been feeling weird lately and I bet it is the Pantene shampoo causing it. I used a different brand of shampoo today and my hair doesn't feel weird like it has been. Definately won't be using that anymore!!
My husband was a Pantene addict, too... - HairWiseMT

I finally convinced him when his hair started to feel "funny" that he try a Paul Mitchell clarifying shampoo and then use the Super Skinny shampoo. He was amazed at how his hair felt "real" again, lol! I told him that's the difference, no waxy build-up, just clean hair (my husband is French, Italian and Native American, and has hair most women would just die for...why is it guys get all the breaks, lol?).

Now we're both addicted to the Super Skinny products but still use the clarifying shampoo every week or so just to get a fresh start on the follicles, lol!

Happy shampooing!!! :-)
stocked up on Pantene - hairy harriet

Wow, I had no idea Pantene would turn my hair into a wax candle. There was a sale at a local discount grocer, cartloads of Pantene shampoo and conditioner, 25 oz size for $3 each. I bought about half dozen! Maybe the next time the power goes out, I can break off a strand of waxy Pantene hair and use it as an emergency candle! #:)

Best stuff on the market for a poufball head like me. After I straighten my hair, it will stay silky and shiny for a couple of days before I have to do it all over again.

Nothing beats a great blow out and straightening for my unruly mop!

I am currently using Paul Mitchell Color Protect shampoo and conditioner, but that's only because one of my close friends works in a salon and can get me a good deal! I tend to change brands quite often, too. I really do like Dove products (I tend to go for shampoos that smell good).

I do try to stick with the color protector stuff since my hair is color-treated, though in all honesty I don't know if it really makes a difference! :)

My absolute favorites are the Matrix brands and I try to keep both the Amplify for volumizing and the Biolage for smoothing on hand. But they are expensive! So I can't afford to use either of them every other day. I will have at least 6 different brands at one time to switch up with. I do this by purchasing at discount stores like Big Lots or checking the discounted section at Winn Dixie. Right now I'm working on a new product from Aveeno, called Nourish+Revitalize and I love it!

Kinda of expensive for the amount you get, but I wait for coupons (newspaper and internet printable) and stock up. I usually get it at CVS where I can get some extra care bucks along with it. There is even a $10 manufacturer's rebate for Aveeno products out right now.

I like the Aveeno products too but switch brands often and have used quite a few of the products mentioned. Pureology is good but kind of expensive. I agree about Pantene, I could't use the shampoo because it would not get the styling product out of my hair or maybe it was the wax I was feeling. A clarifying shampoo once in a while is a good idea, Neutrogena makes one that I like. We don't all agree on our shampoos but at least this should not start an argument, lol!

They have a great makeup line, too. Love the eyeshadows and eyeliners.

Big Sexy Hair is good, too, if you need volume.

I usually get Suave for color treated hair, but if they don't have that I get Fructis for color treated hair. The Sauve is so much cheaper, though. I also use leave in conditioner from Fructis. I've had the same shampoo for years.

I switch about some as I have developed allergies - sm - ECMT

to shampoos before, guess a sort of tolerance. Had to stop both Pert and Finesse (don't think that one is around anymore). Now use the one in the bright green bottle, fruitesse or whatever it is, Kids Suave, Pantene, whatever is 2 to 1 with conditioner in it and is on sale is possible. Saves time and water doing it all at once and with a well you want both, though I do turn the water off when sudsing up the hair.

CHEAPY CHEAPY STUFF :) - I use Suave products

[ In Reply To ..]
I used to spend a lot of money on the more expensive brands, but Suave "guarantees to do as well as _____ insert expensive brand"..
I use their color protectant one and then switch around to dry hair whatever whatever.

I really don't know if shampoos or conditioners make my hair any different because like I said I have used those majorly expensive brands.

I have to be symmetric in the fact they have to be the same brand shampoo and conditioner though LOL

LOL, I thought I was the only weirdo who was like that - OCD MT

I've been in really nice salons where they try to sell me one brand of shampoo and a different brand of conditioner, and I just start shaking my head "no." It just seems unnatural to not use the same brand for both products...I'm so anal sometimes but it's just a quirk I have. Kind of like I have to use a complete skin care line, not a cleanser, toner and moisturizer from DIFFERENT lines. It just doesn't seem right for some reason.

My OCD must be working overtime these days (kinda like me, lol!).

Glad somebody else has the "matchy-matchy" when it comes to product lines!

I'm making out my very long list for Grocery Shopping and started thinking about various products for which I simply must have the Name Brand.  I always buy French's Mustard, Heinz Ketchup, Hellman's Mayo and Vlassic Sweet Relish. I buy Ajax Dish Soap and Bounty Paper Towels.  I'd never purchase Store Brand Dish or Dishwasher Soap.  However, I'll buy Store Brand Toilet Paper and Paper Plates. What's A Good Conditioner For Fine, Limp, Tangly Hair?Jan 17, 2010
I've always had troublesome hair - thin, fine, limp, tangles at every turn of my head.  Conditioners are a must or I could never comb it at all.  Most conditioners are too thin, runny and wimpy for my hair, and it takes me forever to comb it out (my hair is really long, down to my fanny, and straight as a board).   Every time I find a product that works in my hair, they take it off the market, it drives me nuts!  My current product is Pantene conditio ...

I used to wear Vanity Fair hi-cut cotton undies until they wanted to save money and started making an inferior product. I wore them for years and years. I like cotton undies and can't find any where the legs don't stretch out. I've been wearing Jockey, but they end up like bloomers after 3 or 4 washes. I've also tried Hanes and Just My Size and whatever other brands Walmart sells. I don't like any of them. Any suggestions? I'm looking for cotton hi-cut or b ...
