alopecia areata, have you tried any home remeadies that have worked? I have gone to the dermatoloigst, have received 3 sets of cortisone shots to the scalp so far, no luck, just a few fine hairs coming in. It should have all grown back at this point from the injections. So now we are waiting a year to see if anything changes (been about 2 years already so looks pretty permanent right now). Doc gave me samples of Protopic but basically said she did not expect it to work but trying it certainly would not make it any worse. I am not really too self conscious about my bald spot, but would rather it not be there. It is right at the top of my head, basically looks like my part continued down the back of my head about 2 inches and is about a half inch wide, so a bit obvious. I have flat hair too so other than a "combover" or maybe changing my part (and combing over) there is not much I can to do hide it. I have read about essential oils being somewhat successful, has anyone tried that or maybe Rogaine for this. Don't really want to get Rogaine at the store since it is so expensive, a prescription is the cheaper route for me ($5 thru DH's plan) and have told the dermatologist this as well. Just want to know if others here have this lovely issue and what they have done that has worked to promote new hair growtih in the bald spot. TIA.
