I am an animal lover and am all for making them comfortable in the summer months, but please keep in mind that an animal's coat/fur PROTECTS them from the heat/sun.
By shaving them to the skin, you are just setting them up to get even hotter outdoors and possibly burn their skin. Their coat also protects their internal body from shifts of temperature indoors or out.
A pet groomer is NOT going to tell you this--they make a good chunk of money shaving hair off pets. If you don't believe me, ask your vet---as long as he isn't also a groomer.
