I love barbecue and husband just bought a

how do you like it? I have never had food from one before and really can hardly wait to see what we can make. ;

We have a smoker - Love it, love it

Ours is a propane one, and we love it. We smoke salmon, mullet, vegetables, ribs, chicken, pork, etc. The possibilities are endless. We also have a few different "flavored" wood chips.

I don't have any specific recipes--but you can find some really good ones that use rubs and things. My hubby whips up his own rubs, and I don't even know what he uses. He's creative as a cook. But I'm sure you can find numerous recipes on the Internet and also instructions regarding your type of smoker on how to smoke.

Have fun! It's a blast. BUT, make sure it's in a well ventilated area or you will smell like smoked salmon for a week.

We have one too - .

It's funny you mention it because just yesterday we did our final smoked barbecue for the year. We have a charcoal one, so we don't use it in really cold weather or it doesn't hold its heat as well, and you do want to make sure the temperature doesn't get too low for prolonged periods. We do spare ribs, baby back ribs, potatoes (smoked baked potatoes are the best), whole chickens, stuffed whole sweet onions, stuffed peppers, etc. It took us a few tries before figuring out exactly how long to smoke stuff for versus cooking without the wood chips to find the perfect balance. It is possible to smoke for too long and have your food be too "smoky" tasting, but that can depend on what type of food it is. It's great fun experimenting, though. I think you'll love it.

We use ours just as we did our regular BBQ. We've done salmon, crab cakes, pork chops, flat bread pizza, steak, chicken, pork roast, turkey, zucchini, and last night I cooked an apple crisp along side the pork roast. We have a Traeger, so I go to their website/Facebook page for different ideas on what to make next.

Too much smoker food, and I feel like I am eating a stick - out of the fire pit. YUCK. nm

Well - See Msg

If you feel like you're eating a stick, you are overcooking the food. If you feel like it's out of the fire-pit, it's full-smoking for too long. We have our smoker on for hours, but it's not all about full-smoke.

The TASTE is like a stick from the fire pit. Not that it is dry. - nm

Ham is different. Arent all hams smoked, the way they prepare them? - Not like they are done on a smoker. nm

Tea Party Republicans Love Love Love Ted CruzOct 18, 2013
even among Republicans, according to a survey from Pew Research. But the group is still potent within the Republican Party — which means that Sen. Ted Cruz gets a bit of good news on an otherwise bleak day. "Tea Party" is a necessarily vague affiliation. There are members of Tea Party groups, of course, but Pew largely had to allow poll respondents to self identify. And a lot of Republicans did so. About four-in-ten (41%) Republicans and Republican leaners agree with the Tea Pa ...

For Anyone Who Has Ever Bought A Home, When MovingMay 04, 2015
any construction or upgrades of any kind? My child is in the process of buying a home. I have bought 2 in my lifetime. The first one was built in the 40s. It was a HUD, repossessed and nothing was needed to make it livable. The second was a fairly new home, 4 years old, and it also was move in ready. My daughter has had a terrible time trying to get the people selling to turn on utilities so it could be inspected. Yesterday told me inspection day. No water on, the inspector could not check the A ...

Downsizing - The Things I Bought And Never NeededFeb 07, 2011
I finally realized I do not need to follow Martha Stewart or those other people around and need to have everything in the world to show how great my housekeeping and entertaining abilities are (and they are both still terrible anyway).  I  have 2 relatives who live a long way away, a brother and a niece and she has no children.  I have no children.  I have been a widow for 30 years.  Now tell me why I need 3 full sets of dishes (nice china, etc.) with service for 12.&nb ...

Bought My Website. Taking Some Pics.Jul 13, 2014
I also joined Etsy, using my domain name.  May I say...I wasn't terrifically impressed with quality of items for sale on Etsy.  There were some phenomenal things....and then not so phenomenal...and the not-so-phenomenal stuff was selling too (maybe they just sold to their friends.  I don't know.  It didn't seem like it).  So I guess that's a hopeful sign... ...I also have a *fun* job now, part-time, it is great to punch in, work, and voila! you get p ...

Norway Killer Bought Ammunition Clips From USJul 30, 2011
The man who confessed to killing 68 people in Norway last week says he bought the ammunition clips used in his shooting spree from the U.S by mail order. Anders Behring Breivik wrote in his 1,500-page manifesto that he spent $500 for 10 30-round clips. Clips with more than three rounds are banned from sale in Norway. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), who introduced legislation to limit high-capacity ammunition clips following the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), told Politico ...

Elizabeth Warren Bought Foreclosed HomesMay 27, 2015
Nearly two years after Veo Vessels died, her daughter, 70-year-old Mary Frances Hickman, decided to sell the home her mother had left to her. A sprawling brick house in Oklahoma City’s historic Highland Park neighborhood, it was built in 1924, just a year after Mary’s birth. Decades later, one of Vessels’ great-grandchildren fondly recalls the wood and tile floors, the fish pond, the butler’s quarters, and the multi-car garage where children played house. “It was really, really n ...

Please Keep My Husband And I In Your PrayersMar 15, 2011
I don't know where else to turn.  Saw this forum and decided to post.  My husband and I have been married 11 years.  Yes, we have had ups and downs with finances, etc., but I have a good job now and we are able to save and all was good, or so I thought.  I have felt a distance between us for a month or so and I asked him what's wrong.  He said he is just broken, doesn't care anymore, and just wants to leave.  My world just turned upside down.  We ...

My Husband Yells At Me Sometimes....Nov 07, 2009
Does anyone else have a husband who yells at you sometimes?  My husband will yell and cuss at me if I forget to do something or don't do somethng he thinks should have been done.  Like tonight, he called (he is a truck driver) and was close to home and asked me did I order his new cell phone last night.  Well honestly I forgot as I was working and we were backlogged with work and I got busy and slipped my mind.  This evening before working I had to go get some plywood at ...

If Your Husband Was Always Late - Feb 16, 2010
Would you be able to lie to him to fudge appointment times, etc, to get there on time?  We've been married 25 years, and I knew what I was getting into even before I married him.  I pretty much have learned to live with it.  But sometimes I'm tempted to tell him that an appointment is for, say, 1:00 when it's really for 1:30 because he has a tendency to start to get ready about five minutes before time to be there.  But then I think of him sitting there in the ...

Irritable HusbandNov 22, 2010
I need some advise on how to handle an irritable husband.  Of late, my husband is so irritable.  It is driving me nuts.  He is always biting my head off or just impatient with me and my children.  He works nights, and it is so bad that when the children hear him getting up for work, they go to bed.  They do not want to be around him.  I am feeling the same way.  He can put me in a bad mood instantly with his irritability and negative attitude.  I don' ...

A Husband's GiftFeb 28, 2010
Dear Diary, For my birthday this year, my husband purchased for me a week of personal training at the local health club. Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try. I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Christo, who identified himself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear. Friends seemed plea ...

Retired HusbandJul 06, 2011
RETIRED HUSBANDAfter I retired, my wife insisted that I accompany her on her trips to Target.Unfortunately, like most men, I found shopping boring and preferred to get in and get out. Equally unfortunate, my wife is like most women - she loves to browse.Yesterday my dear wife received the following letter from the local Target:Dear Mrs. Harris,Over the past six months, your husband has caused quite a commotion in our store. We cannot tolerate this behavior and have been forced to ban both of you ...

Asking Husband For Money.May 11, 2011
I don't know about you all, but I HATE having to ask my husband for money, for anything! I make enough money to cover my personal expenses and the household bills and he pays the mortgage, loan on the cars and his personal expenses.  We take turns buying the monthly groceries.  It comes out pretty even, the only differences is, he has left over money from his check and I  do not. I stopped asking years ago because he'd give me the "where did all your money go" with att ...

Standing Up To HusbandMar 13, 2012
Background is my husband tends to drink too much and then tends to gamble too much.  He will literally go through hundreds of dollars sitting at the local bar on the slot machines if he has the debit card... thus he no longer has a debit card, but he will take mine and do the same thing.  The other day he took my vehicle; had to run to the bar for something and would "be right back."  After several hours passed, I called and asked where the ***#*# he was and some other not-so-nice ...

Depressed HusbandApr 17, 2012
I have been married for 25 years and together we have two wonderful, grown kids, 20 and 22 who are still living at home.  No problem with that. My husband has major depression which is usually (okay, about 50%) under fairly good control.  He's on a couple of meds, which I'm not sure are still working right, but what little health insurance we have doesn't cover either mental health services or medications, so he's very resistant to going to a psychiatrist to get th ...

Husband ProblemsAug 11, 2012
I need some opinions about some of the things my husband does. Basically, I feel that he is very controlling.  He is always making remarks when he can't get me on the phone that I must be with my "boyfriend".  If my phone goes off, he'll say ask if it's my boyfriend, and it is usually just an email from work or some type of business that I have an account with.  We have been married for 16 years, and I have never cheated on him.  My best friend since high scho ...

Husband Is Addicted To The Gym. Jan 17, 2013
This is the stupidest problem ever, but my husband is addicted to the gym.  He doesn't stay all day, but he goes every day.  He gets off earlier than I do and goes.  Then I get home and am expected to cook dinner while he is there or while he is showering afterwards.  If I don't cook, he will go get fast food.  He does NOT cook . His gym time has precluded us from doing other activities such as keeping our grandkids in the afternoon/evening and he has even ...
