I wish it would snow this year, bought a faux fur coat

Posted: Nov 10, 2009

a few years ago and it is really heavy and alas, our weather here is usually too warm to even put it on. I have had it about 2 years now and have worn it about as many times. I am wishing for cold and snow this year, fingers crossed here.

All I can say is keep it where you are. We have had - ht

a windstorm left over from a hurricane tha blew through Texas, ice storm, and flooding here since January 2009--all with massive power outages and problems galore. We definitely do not not need any snow.

I can't imagine wanting snow! - happycamper

I live in northern Indiana. Snow is a given here, and normally a lot of it. I can't imagine wishing we had any. I would gladly send you as much as you want in January and February!

In Georgia and would like change of weather besides - Southern lady

all the rain coming in now from the hurricane off southern coast of US today. There are warnings about flooding in place as I type this.

of all of the rain this year. Don't get me wrong, glad to have some after the drought that we have had over the last few years but DANG, 6, 8, 14 inches at a time is more than what we need! LOL
Gee, sounds like it rains more in George than - OREGON

We usually have light showers with sun that comes out. Lots of rainbows in this state.
We are having a tough time here lately with all the rain - Southern lady

I am sure the people who had their homes completely washed away and trying to rebuild now about to toss their cookies. I need to write that letter to the gov (as per hubby's stating so) that please ask the higherup to turn off the faucet now, had enough for awhile. Last year no water, dry as could be and the gov held a prayer for rain. It has now rained to the point that even the lakes are over full. People with boats used to be able to walk on walkways to get to their boats, those now under water. You would have to swim or take another boat to get to your boat on the lake. We have had all kinds of warnings today about going to higher ground if necessary.
Don't know where you are Southern, but here, about 45 miles south of Atlanta (sm) - Happy MTer

We have received almost 7-1/2 inches of rain since yesterday morning and it is STILL raining. Okay now, where did they park the ark? :)

Send it this way! I lived in PHOENIX for 25 long, long years. It was like living in HE** for me. I despised living there. Finally moved away to Oregon. Thank you God! We had 5 snow days last year around Christmas. IT WAS THE BEST!!! SEND THE SNOW THIS WAY AND IF I STILL LIVED IN ARIZONA, I WOULD BE GLAD TO SEND YOU THE 110 DEGREES!! OR better yet, just turn your oven on to 110 degrees and try sticking your body in it and that is what it feels like!!! Hahaha.

Re: "Faux" fur: PLEASE look carefully at the - base of the fur, and make sure

[ In Reply To ..]
it's truly fabric and fake hair. Many coats labelled "fake" fur are actually real fur from dogs in china called racoon dogs. They look like big raccoons, but these are in the dog family. But no matter what family they are in, these poor creatures, bred for their fur and kept in squalid, cramped conditions, don't even have the dignity of a merciful death. They are swung through the air and their heads pounded against the pavement, knocking them not unconscious, but temporarily stunned. Then, they are hung upside down and brutally skinned ALIVE. Still breathing, blinking, feeling every hideous moment of having their hides literally torn off their entire bodies, even their faces, by cruel, often laughing men. Please check, and DOUBLE CHECK, every piece of clothing with "faux" fur on it, because no one would ever want the blood and anguish of these innocent animals on their hands.

I am a huge animal lover and immediately when I read your post - Southern lady

got up from my desk and went to read the label in the coat. It says 100% acrylic shell, 100% polyester back and 100% polyester lining. Having said that, it says also the coated made in the USA with imported materials. Your post is the very first I have heard of this and I would never ever do anything in any way to hurt our friends. I never wanted the real thing because of just that and I could have afforded it had I wanted. Having that information above, what are your thoughts now? Thanks.

Youre welcome! Recently on a news story they - see msg

went to a big store, maybe Burlington Coat Factory. The label said "faux fur trim". They bought the coat and cut upen the lining, and the back of the trim was small bits of hide/skin sewn together. Apparently if the fur is sold in small scraps, it's very cheap. There's some kind of a loophole in the labelling laws here that if the fur is worth less than a certain amount, it doesn't have to be labelled as real.

I would have less of a problem with real fur if the animals had a decent quality of life, and then were put down humanely and peacefully. Of course, that would be too expensive, especially in rural China. But still, there is just no excuse to skin, butcher, gut, or otherwise take an animal apart while it's still alive. I watched the video on the Humane Society's website of the racoon dogs' plight, and that's what I was describing in my other post. It was hideous (even with the sound turned off), and it haunted me for weeks. Still, I felt I needed to see it for myself, so I could spread the word. I realize these men in China need to work for a living, but for the sake of decency that work should at the very least be done in as humane a way as possible. And theirs was NOT. It was pure, sadistic violence.

I would not know what I was looking for. The coat has a sort of silky lining and it is not sewn completely down. Just told my husband I would be so distressed to even think I bought this. I loved the animal furs when a young child and as adult traveled to Alaska and did not at all like the stuffed bears, pelts sold, etc. there, not my cup of tea. I am the kind that puts wayward bugs out of my home because I know being inside they have just lost their way, now this. Had no idea but never will buy anything again that could possibly be a friend. I am really thinking of going vegetarian just because of how I love animals.
What they said on the news story was to just - part the fur and examine what its
[ In Reply To ..]
coming out of. If it's fabric, then it's like faux fur. If it looks more like skin, leather or suede, it could be real.

I still eat meat, but if I hear of mistreatment of animals at a certain plant, I'll avoid their products after that. I stopped going to Kentucky Fried Chicken (too fattening, anyway), because their supplier had workers that were really mean to the chickens - kicking them around and throwing them against walls and such. Kill them swiftly and humanely, don't kick them around! No more KFC for me, they lost a customer for good.

There was a beef packing plant in the Kern County area that had workers abusing the cattle, especially those that were weak and unable to walk. They listed the brand, and I made sure I didn't buy it. Turns out, there's no more need to worry about them, they were shut down permanently and put out of business.

First Light Snow Of The Year - That's StickingNov 25, 2012
I like the way the grayish sky contrasts with the white of the snow, and the pine trees.  Just read a strange poem by Emily Dickinson about a pine tree, I'm sharing the whole thing here.  Love the line, "a sea with a stem."  I had to stop and look out the window at a pine, when I read this line.  Yep, that's right - a sea with a stem. By my Window have I for SceneryJust a sea—with a Stem—If the Bird and the Farmer—deem it a “Pine”&mdas ...

"A 2-year-old Kentucky girl was accidentally killed by her 5-year-old brother who fired a rifle he had been given as a gift, officials said Wednesday." Parents can be arrested for not reporting a missing child. It's not even legal to let your child drive a car without a permit. Yet, this sad, sad story is unfortunately way too common. I'm so lucky. Our county got the highest, 24-27" depending on where you live. I live in the 27" zone.  So in 2 weeks, we have had 34" of snow. Had to laugh at DH. He put the snowblower in the storage shed after the snow last week instead of leaving it in the garage. It was a bit of a hassle to get it back out.  He's 6' tall and the snow was up to his knees.  His boots weren't [up to his knees].  Poor guy. I made a good hot luch for him, though.  ...
