Black families with females as head of the household with support? Black families with females as head of the household without support? Black families with males as head of the household with support? Black families with males as head of the household without support?

How did all above categories stack up against white men living alone? White women living alone? White men living in famliies? White women living in families? White families with females as head of the household with support? White families with females as head of the household without support? White families with males as head of the household with support? White families with males as head of the household without support?

How about Asian men living alone? Asian women living alone? Asian men living in famliies? Asian women living in families? Asian families with females as head of the household with support? What happened to all of the above categories when such factors as age, education and geography were thrown into the mix? This is the customary was to measure poverty, and it is impossible to draw valid conclusions in the absence of comparative disparity assessments.

BTW, the percentages do no jive with those provided in other sources, such as the US Census Bureau, for starters. Maybe that's why he decided to omit citations to his sources. Ya think?

[ In Reply To ..]
My grandfather had an accident as a child, ended up with ONE arm, had to drop out of school in 6th grade to help support his family ( NOW THERE'S A CONCEPT FOR YA), and guess what sister!! Unlike the low-lifes walking my streets with 2 arms and 2 legs who do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING but suck the taxpayer dry, my grandfather WORKED his entire life and didn't sit on his butt and use geography OR education as an excuse to just be lazy. He lived in a very rural area and had to leave to seek work and do what he could to make a living. He was a welder by trade (with only ONE ARM), drove a school bus when jobs were slow, built his OWN home, plowed his fields and harvested them (and there wasn't NO TRACTOR) and paid his OWN BILLS!

Get off your excuse train because being single/married, female OR male head of household, popping out your own babies of which YOU are solely responsible for (NOT ME), is NO excuse not to pay your own way. I am sick of scum living off of me. I don't give a rats butt if they are married (highly doubtful), single, short, tall, fat, or skinny (though I have to admit I haven't seen anything but fatties living on food stamps around here).....just get off their butts and WORK!!

Now there's a concept for you! You are so busy trying to come up with junk to post you have absolutely no reasoning behind it except for excuses. You no doubt know people who don't do squat for a living and are just tryng to excuse their laziness.

And I'm NOT talking about disabled (of which my grandfather would have been considered to be). He never thought he had a right to MOOCH OFF someone else. He paid his own way for HIS ENTIRE FAMILY for his entire life.

Citations? Are you just delusional or what? Ever heard of WORK ETHIC? All that gibberish you took the time to copy and paste is just that.....govt gibberish, which is the entire problem... the GOVERNMENT! Stop those freebies and I guarantee you, after the pity party has stopped, there would be jobs found and FAST!

Since you're all hung up on single family, single mom, blah, blah, blah, my mother found herself single when my dad died suddenly, with 2 children under the age of 4 and she had always worked and CONTINUED TO WORK her entire life and hasn't stopped yet. It didn't dawn on her to MOOCH off of other people who work as well. It didn't dawn on her that she should have a roof put over her head paid for by someone else's dollar. She paid for EVERYTHING she owned and if she didn't have it, we didn't get it. Now there's a CITATION for ya.

My valid conclusion? If you get off your butt and work and stop all this pity party (oh waaahh, my skin is this color, my skin is that color, my ethnic group is that, I live here or there) you might actually find yourself to be a decent human being with a little self-respect. Otherwise, they are just lazy trash with no goals in life and the dumber the government keeps them, the more votes them dems will get.

Sector of the population .....what a joke. Try the sector that WORKS, which has obviously escaped you.

Wow -- feel better, now? - get a life

I sure as H*** don't hear you on here whining about the real scum of the earth -- you know, the ones on Wall Street that stole from the American people and are still managing to pay themselves billions in bonuses. Why don't you direct your anger and hatred at them? After all, your "people" are the ones balking at making them accountable. But no, you would rather waste all that anger on a very small percentage of people that do take advantage of the system, when for the most part, most of those that receive that help really do need it, for whatever reason. I'm sorry you had such a deprived childhood, and I commend your grandfather who struggled against all odds and made it anyway. But all your anger and hatred is so misplaced and it is obviously eating away what little soul you may have left. There but for the grace of God -- I truly hope you never find yourself in a position where you will be forced to ask for help if you need it, but you know what? Most of those people don't want to ask, either, and people like you with all your selfish indignation, you choose to focus on the few who are always going to be out there wanting handouts for nothing. Yet, you want to also punish and ridicule the majority that don't. My pity is wasted on you . . .

We lived in poverty....according to the govt (which suddenly came up with a "poverty level" after the civil rights movement) GASP! There's a shocker. After that, that's all the govt fed everybody....poverty, poverty, poverty....let us decide if you're in poverty.

It used to be called living on what you make and making do. My family did that. We lived in a very old home, falling apart most of the time. We had a garden and we rarely had meat on the table. My grandmother made our clothes. Everybody went to work; nobody sat at home slacking. My grandfather made our furniture because we certainly couldn't afford dept store furniture. His work was wonderful and people loved what he did and wanted him to make things for them, but he worked 2 jobs, sometimes 3. My mother worked 2 jobs. My grandmother sat most of the day sewing and doing seamstress work for people. When me and my brother were old enough, we walked several blocks to go to work and walked back home every day. I paid for my car in college, worked full time during college, and made my way, as did my brother. No free govt handouts. We could have easily qualified since my dad was dead but we were never spoon fed the idea that entitlement programs were a choice. That's why we all worked.

Bitterness? No, fed up is more like it. Fed up with lazy people who are afraid to break a sweat and have been taught they are "entitled" generation after generation after generation. THere are now millions on the dole simply because they breath and do nothing productive in life.

Most federal tax paying individuals are bitter....they have every right to be. They are angry to pack for slackers...who in their right mind wouldn't be?

On the ther hand, it's amazing how many children in elementary school around here know the social welfare program. They have been taught how to lie, what to keep secret from their teachers, the school, anything to get more freebies. They are groomed to lie about their circumstances, who lives with them (mooches)and many other sorted tails but it's not their fault; their parentshave no self-respect, so they teach their children laziness.

Most folks who choose to bash those that are fed up with paying for others, such as yourself, usually don't pay federal income taxes and are living subsidized to some extent.
If you think you're the only one with a three-limbed - grandpa

He went back to work in the mines as an electrician then and eventually died of black lung.

No one in my family has ever been on assistance, and everyone has worked very hard all their lives, but I have never heard anyone talk the way you do. You sound very bitter and selfish.

You MUST have tried to get Welfare. There's no way it could be anything else making you so bitter.

Once they took away the entitlement to be human beings and built the south up on the backs of slaves, that just started the ball rolling. Then trying to make up for that, of course, led to entitlement programs. And, as always, there are those who think "if they are entitled, I am too."

We'll be paying for the rest of our lives, and our children will, and their children will...............

You really don't know your history, do you? - BTW.....
[ In Reply To ..]
the north came up with entitlement programs. Now ask yourself who the north had to do with slavery and you MIGHT just learn something.

The FIRST slave ship "Desire" was built by Yankees, built in 1637. The YANKEE commercial and industrial system had its roots in the profits made by engaging in the African slave trade. The ship "Desire" was only the FIRST of MANY Yankee ships that would prey on the people of Africa for the next 200 years. The slave trade WAS the cornerstone of ankee commerce and the slave trade THEY engaged in themselves help gain them the capital they needed for investments in modern-day drug dealers who launder their money in legitimate enterprises.

The NEW ENGLAND slave trade was BIG BUSINESS.. not the south. You need a huge dose of education, which is the problem with our history books...they don't give a true accounting of slavery and HOW it came about....ALL by way of the northern states.

Even when Congress outlawed the importation of slaves into the U.S., the YANKEE slaver always found markets willing in the Caribbean and in South America, where 94% of the African slaves ended up.

The NORTH always used slaves for the rum and molasses trades....not in the south.

Never heard this mentioned in those history lessons? How about the fact that the south was NOT a major market for the NOrth's black cargo... and it certainly didn't slow the north down with African slaves. The more prominent families of New England were heavily engaged in slave trade and they built HUGE fortunes off the backs of their slaves. Ever hear of the NORTHERN deWolf family in your history book? Ever see the NORTHERN slaves built whipped and beaten in those pictures of nothing but southern plantation slaves being beat? Of course not....how selective you are and very telling of how you know nothing.

The list of northern perpetuators of slavery LONG after the south was invaded could go on and on and on...

Ever hear of Peter Faneuil? Do yourself a little homework. A Boston man, not southern. He was MAJOR backer of a slaving venture. If he had been a Southerner, he would have been censured and written off as a RACIST! But it was a white NORTHERNER who continued to use slaves for his money making schemes and NO ONE opened their mouth. This man had what is now considered an icon named after him and he was a slave trader LONG after slavery ended!

NO...the South did 'start the ball rolling'....you need get some education.

The ENTITLEMENT programs came AFTER the civil rights movement and had NOTHING to do with slavery. AND the movement was started by democrats for reasons that had nothing to do with PITY for the black community. Ask a black pastor around during that time up north. He'll gladly tell you the northern "deals" being made to gain votes had everything to do with the social programs and it had everything to do with the disintegration of the black family, which was intact and productive member of society UNTIL the nutjobs in Washington (democrats) started THAT ball rolling.....

The south had nothing to do with that.

If you think there were no issues with black families in the US before public assistance, then I suggest you read Ralph Ellison's _Invisible Man_.

Besides, the black family in the US has never had much of a chance. It's not like slavery kept families together, and the immediate period after certainly didn't, either. Racism and inequality afforded people of color almost no opportunity in this country, and while civil rights have helped, we are most definitely still in a racist society.

When people say "black people should just do everything whites do" in regards to jobs and education, that means they don't realize blacks STILL do not have the opportunities whites do.

Trying to say blacks were ruined because Democrats essentially paid them off with Welfare is so insulting. It implies that black people as a whole would rather be given handouts.

This whole line of argument really betrays your racism and your inability to comprehend the realities of life in the US.
Try reading "The South was Right" OR here's an - eye opener for you.....

Look in the National Archives in DC for ex-slaves comments on slavery, YANKEES, freedom, and the Confederacy.

These facts collected by Reverend Steve Wilkins of Monroe, Louisiana entitled "Slave Narratives" might just blow your public education ideas about slavery and how the ex-slaves really felt about it..... more than 70% of ex-slaves had only good experiences to report.... they despised the Yankees for interfering in their lives.

Those folks would be insulted to this day the idea of welfare and what it is saying to the black man and yet the govt doesn't care...they just keep adding those social programs.

Yes, the black "middle class" community turned into the ghetto AFTER the civil rights era..... do your homework. The handouts began and as many black pastors will tell you who watched their congregation deteriorate as far as united families, that's when the mothers STOPPED marrying the fathers, because they didn't need them to provide for them; they could get on welfare and there was no "cut off" if they kept having chidren, so they continued to have children and by more than one man and was allowed to continue on welfare for no other reason than she just couldn't keep her legs together. Welfare actually ENCOURAGED the break up of the black family because there was NO motivation to marry and stay together as a family anymore. The govt would pay their way....and so the downward spiral began.

In my town, blacks have the same opportunity for a FREE college education as the whites..... guess how many choose NOT to take advantage of THAT free program....why? Cause they have to work for it and that's just too much. So quit trying to find excuses. I suppose you're going to find an excuse as well as to why turning down a free college education is the fault of someone else too. They don't have the same opportunities my butt.... that's the lie perpetuated in this country over and over again. The truth be known, the blacks around here can get a 4-year fully paid for college scholarship for ONLY making a 16 on their SAT....a 16!!!! for God sakes. The white kids.....they have to make a perfect score to obtain that. Now, you tell me who has the least opportunity?! Don't you find that MORE offensive to the blacks?

Unless someone actually goes out there to find out the truth, they'll belive whatever they are told on TV, by their local lazies and racists, and whoever else they choose to receive their info from.

How can a free college education be "inequality"? Before you continue your hand-me-down lies, PLEASE explain why a free college education is a bad thing and how that produces "inequality".

BTW....employees around here can't fill all their positions even though they are willing to pay to send the people to college to learn a trade...ANYTHING! but they choose NOT to take the job because they don't want to work.....period. So, unless you have another excuse to use, that "no opportunities" notion just went out the window.

Here is an ex-slave narrative from Cora Gillam, Little Rock, AR...

"I'll tell you lady, if the rough element from the North had stayed out of the South the trouble of reconstruction would not have happened.....they tried to excite the colored against their white friends. The white folks was still kind to them what had been their slaves. They would have helped them get started. I know that. I always say that if the South could of been left to adjust itself both white and colored would ahve been better off".

Now, if you were at all interested in the truth and stop trying to blame the whites, at least in the south, for all YOUR problems, you might get a clue. Who first legalized slavery in America.... the colony of - Massachusetts (north)......sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Who first attempted to prohibit the importation of slaves? Virginia had gone on record long opposing the slave trade; they even outlawed it in 1778 (10 years before Mass). Virginia had actually tried it earlier but the "royal governor", appointed by the king, wouldn't allow it. (Still british rule). One of the main reasons Thomas Jefferson, a southerner, stated that one of the reasons the people of Virginia felt compelled to secede from British rule was that the British had FORCED the state to endure the slave trade (still under british rule).

The entire south tried to outlaw slave trade after Virginia but who stopped it? England! British rule had everything to do with why slaves were brought into this country in the first place.... a little known and NEVER taught in history books fact!

The majority of southern whites did NOT own slaves.....80% of the southern soldiers did NOT own slaves. You think they or the blacks that fought along beside them were going to risk their butts for a few rich men? Please!

On the other hand, the MAJORITY of northerners DID own slaves....you would have been hard pressed to NOT find a slave in ANY northern home, not to mention the hundreds upon hundreds of industries (rum and molasses huge ones) owned by Yankees using slaves. You probably wouldn't know that because your little picture book didn't tell you that. The lust of Yankees for slaves was so bad that (they built the first slave ship you know..."Desire" they called it) that they built hundreds of slave ships that Yankees took out and paid blacks in other areas to round up entire villages of blacks and bring back by the thousands. Blacks preying on blacks. Such devotion and all. Still doing that to this day. Seems like they too will do anything for a buck.

Your picture book that always somehow depicts southern slave owners as beating and whipping their slaves (another huge lie) was actually pictures that many northern journalists had witnessed up north time after time after time and written and drawn about....they would have never put those pictures in a local paper. That would have been the end of them. But it do make its way to the govt owned public education history books as "southern owners" doing this and it do look good for a small black child growing up reading these lies over and over again. Why do you think so many blacks CHOSE to fight against the north...they certainly didn't have to...they chose to because they were certainly aware of what was going on. They despised Yankees.

No, the slave trade was alive and well in the north ALL by itself. It didn't need the south for anything. Even after northern blacks gained their freedoms, they were still viewed as an economic threat to white labor. Those whites up there didn't want any competition from the blacks...no sirree!

Blacks in the south were alway encouraged to own businesses and land and have always done so. In the north, they were barred at every turn from social and economic advancement, which of course contributed to all that poverty of free blacks. The northerners despised their blacks...the south did not, regardless of your little picture books you choose to believe and obviously continue to read. It just makes for good hate and racist beliefs, doesn't it? The northerners thought a lot of their slaves until they were freed and then they despised them because they were free to advance then....north didn't want that.

The south embraced it. The south was left impoverished after the North invasion...both white and black. The blacks worked side by side with whites, built businesses, plowed fields, and that's why to this day the south can honestly say we have less racism that the north has EVER had. The north still lives a perpetual life of segregation....those white folks don't want their children going to school with no black children if they can help it. Detroit is one of the most segregated racist cities around but you don't hear a lot about that do you on the afternoon news?

No, just the perpetual lies about the south. If many of your thinking made an effort to look at all the wonderful photos taken of many many former slaves with the families they loved (whites), it would make a lot of people question that Yankee myth, hate-filled, racist South propaganda you read and hear about. Black and white families stayed together after the war, many into old age and until they died, taking care of one another. The white children loved and adored the blacks in their homes and the feeling was mutual. The black children often spoke of how they loved the white children like their own brothers and sisters and the white owners alike. And that feeling was mutual.

Lincoln's (your emancipator) white supremacist comments...1858

"I will say, then, that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races...that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to ths that there is a physical difference between the whites and black races....I, as much as any other man, am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race".

This man was not a humanitarian as glorified in your history books...he was a white supremacist and believed big-time in apartheid!

You see, the south didn't feel this way; just the NORTH! You just can't find those telling photos or narratives of black northerners or white owners detailing their care and love for one another during those days.....but you can in the south.

You just have to look for the truth and they're not too hard to find if you really want to know.

Believe what you want..... you obviously already do. You need a true history lesson that you obviously did not get in school or you wouldn't have posted that "supply and demand" asinine remark.
Why don't you give it up? It's not about who - was first
[ In Reply To ..]
to legalize it, and why does it matter in the big picture. You're busying yourself with fighting your own little civil war. It's hilarious. If it makes you happy, we'll say that the north was completely and solely responsible and they were the only ones to use slaves at all. It doesn't change a thing today now does it?

And by the way....you REALLY need to study the economics of slavery in the US. But, you appear to be "an old dog" so the difficulty for you is understood.

Over the years there have been a number of critiques of the way the government measures poverty. One on-going critique is of the types of income that are included in (or excluded from) the poverty measure. By failing to include income that many low-income people receive in the form of public assistance, some critics maintain that the extent of poverty is over-stated. If the value of food stamps, publicly provided health insurance benefits, and cash welfare payments were counted as income in the poverty calculation, many people would no longer be considered poor.

post, at least to me, represents one that falls into the "angry to the point of being dangerous and possibly delusional" category. Don't know if that is the case, but seriously, that kind of anger is not healthy, and your attitudes about this are so rigid that it looks like it is contributing to it. Not a psych but don't have to be. Just reading that post speaks volumes about your mindset.

At any rate, to Wow -- feel better, now? - get a life -- could not have said it better myself.

and you know they're "scum" just by looking - anon

I see people walking my streets and know nothing about them. For all I know they are mentally challenged, have a heart condition, recently lost their job, or not even on assistance. You say you see people walking the streets and you automatically know they are able bodied, sound of mind, and are scamming Welfare. That's a heck of a talent! How can you do that?

When I was a kid, my parents were like you -- they believed assistance was for lazy people so they refused government help to afford health care and other thing. Besides, they thought most health problems were "laziness", just like you seem to. As a result I have serious health problems that, now that I'm in my mid-1930s, have brought my life to a standstill. Everything from chronic infections to sleep disorders to an eye that is now blind can be traced back to my parents refusing to do anything because they thought the same way you did.

It's all because of the sick attitude our society has to assistance. Needing help means you're weak and lazy, according to our society. Because people like you dismiss every single person on assistance as "lazy scum" who are taking food from your table while they live high on the hog. And it's not true, and you probably know it, but you're angry. One person getting one cent more than YOU have decided they deserve throws you into a rage.

It's terrible. It's just a rotten way to think about people, to assume the few who cheat the system should mean no one deserves help.

just 8 months old. We lived in my parents living room while I went to school and I took the first job that was offered to me after graduation. Believe me when I say that the amount of assistance we received each month was not enough to impact anyone else and we were hardly living high on the hog. I was not being lazy. I was taking care of sickly child, going to school full time, doing more homework than I think I did all 4 years of high school combined and trying to get a divorce from an abusive husband I was trying to divorce. Could not WAIT to get off of assistance. It was something that was necessary for awhile.

Like the above poster said, you can not possibly know what the situation is for people on assistance, or even if they are on assistance. The total lack of compassion, the ignorance, the terrible judgment you pass so rigidly onto these people-sorry, but you are WAY off base here.
There's the difference! You got assistance.....NOT - a way of life...BIG difference!! nm

But you would not know that just seeing me - walking down the street
[ In Reply To ..]
All you would have to hear is that I got assistance and I would be, automatically in your mind, lazy scum who does not want to work or some such garbage. You can not judge people like that! You do NOT know their situation! To think that way is frankly shameful!

What's Even More Odd Is The Black Community IdentifyingSep 15, 2012
There are many in the black community who don't consider OTHER people of mixed white-black races to be black - meaning, truly black. Black Community Waking Up To Life On The Liberal PlantationOct 28, 2014
Watch the video (link below). The way to help the poor - minority or otherwise - is to strengthen their families (not weaken them) and to invest in providing them the skills and abilities that so many employers are searching for - and not finding. More handouts won't do it.  Set-asides won't do it.  Minimum wage increases do nothing for people who don't have jobs in the first place - and drive out the few jobs there are.  And for sure, Obamacare isn't helping ...

Georgia, Ohio and Wisconsin joined more than a dozen other states on Friday in saying they would not establish health insuranceexchanges, while a handful of other states said they would take advantage of an extra month allowed by the Obama administration to make decisions.    The exchanges — online markets where consumers can shop for private insurance subsidized by the federal government — are a centerpiece of President Obama’s health care law. &n ...

Big Oil WelfareMay 18, 2011
The Senate blocked a bill Tuesday that would repeal about $2 billion a year in tax breaks for the five biggest oil companies.  First of all, this bill should have been initiated in the Republican-controlled House as it is a "money bill."  Second, I do not fault the three Democrat senators who voted against this bill.  A senator's job is to represent the people of his state, and that is what they are doing.  However, I do fault  MOST of the Republicans for voting ag ...
