Collecting welfare

Prominent Muslim Cleric: Collect Gov’t Welfare as a ‘Jihad Seeker’s Allowance’ A prominent Muslim cleric in the United Kingdom reportedly urged a group of fellow Muslims to collect government benefits as a “jihad seeker’s allowance,” saying non-Muslims who work 9-5 jobs will end up “committing suicide” at the end of their lives when they realize it wasn’t worth anything. Sun News secretly filmed the man’s remarks at three different meetings where he said, among other things, that it is natural for Muslims to take money from the kuffar (derogatory term for non-believer), that Prime Minister Cameron and President Obama are the devil, and that Islam is taking over Europe. He explained the benefits of not working (all subsequent emphasis added): “You find people are busy working the whole of their life. They wake up at 7 o’clock. They go to work at 9 o’clock. They work for eight, nine hours a day. They come home at 7 o’clock, watch EastEnders, sleep, and they do that for 40 years of their life. That is called slavery. “And at the end of their life they realize their pension isn’t going to pay out anything, the mortgage isn’t going to pay out anything. Basically they are going to lose everything, commit suicide. What kind of a life is that, honestly? That is the life of kuffar (non-believer)… “People will say, ‘Ah, but you are not working’. But the normal situation is for you to take money from the kuffar. So we take Jihad Seeker’s Allowance. You need to get support.” Comparing benefits to a jizya, or tax on non-Muslims, he added a laugh: “They give us the money — you work, give us the money! Allahu akbar, we take the money.” A 2010 Sun News report says Choudary collects £25,000 in government benefits and lives in a £320,000 house in London. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/02/18/prominent-muslim-cleric-collect-govt-welfare-as-a-jihad-seekers-allowance/ ;

The Sun? - Really?

News is really scarce today, I guess.

Did you watch to the video - of the cleric's speech?

[ In Reply To ..]
OP included it in the post so you could listen to his actual words en toto. Don't get sidetracked by your emotions about The Sun. Maybe if the HuffPo or CNN played the video for you? It wouldn't change what was said.

I watched it - sm

The man is not a big religious figure. He is a nut. He is no less of a nut just because someone has video of him being a nut.

The Sun is not a suitable source for gathering meaningful information. It is a widely read tabloid, like The National Enquirer or Star. If HuffPo or CNN aired the video, I would wonder what they were thinking.

As usual, the Blaze is in hyperbolic mode - AGAIN.

[ In Reply To ..]
For starters, Choudary is not a "prominent Muslim cleric." He is about as representative of mainstream Islam as Fred Phelps is of mainstream Christianity. Like Phelps, he is a publicity-hungry shock jock type who relishes in feeding the insatiable appetites of sensationalist yellow tabloid rags, such as the Blaze. It is their complicity that have brought him fame, not any real recognition or legitimacy.

Choudary is a fanatical extremist who has been widely denounced by followers of Islam, as is reflected in this excerpt from an article written by Mehdi Hasan and published in response to a failed demonstration he tried to organize back in 2010, very similar to the types of protests Phelps engages:

"Is Choudary an Islamic scholar whose views merit attention or consideration? No. Has he studied under leading Islamic scholars? Nope. Does he have any Islamic qualifications or credentials? None whatsoever. So what gives him the right to pontificate on Islam, British Muslims or "the hellfire"? Or proclaim himself a "sharia judge"? Will he even manage to round up enough misfits to carry the 500 coffins with him? I doubt it – Choudary and co couldn't even persuade enough people to join a "march for sharia" that they had proudly planned to hold in central London in late October, and, at the very last minute, had to humiliatingly withdraw from their own rally. Pathetic, eh?..."

It's worth mentioning that the political group he tried to organize in the UK was disbanded after being proscribed as a terrorist group.

I would ask you the same question - sm

Did you listen to the speech? Scary, isn't it?

Are you as concerned about - Christian extremists?

[ In Reply To ..]
The kind who bomb abortion clinics or are associated with the KKK? Or is it only Muslim extremists that are "scary?"

exactly - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
When some fringe, marginalized religious nutball opens their mouth, we don't usually consider them a spokesperson for their faith. (!)

Easy to get off topic - but back to your question

[ In Reply To ..]
I did listen to it and actually, it is concerning what he's telling members of his religion.
members of his religion - let's review
[ In Reply To ..]
You're probably familiar with the right wing christian who protests gay funerals. You may even consider his followers to be members of his "religion". Would you - even for a second - consider his or his followers' actions to represent mainstream interpretation of his religion? Think about it.

Not really. He's a delusional, paranoid purveyor of - hateful bilious babble.

[ In Reply To ..]
Mental illness does not scare me, though I do feel truly sorry for his kids and wife. IMO, more to the point I take issue with the apparent ease with which he qualified for multiple forms of public assistance under UK's system.

You're exaggerating - AGAIN

get over it. doe.

Are you going to call every poster you - don't like

[ In Reply To ..]
doe?
sorry for the confusion - sm

I was quoting doe who posted "get over it" on a previous thread. Giving credit where credit is due. Forgot the quotation marks, though. So sorry.

Excuse me! - doe is my moniker

Kindly do not quote me and then end your message with my moniker.Don't use my posts to make your points.

I see your post below in which you state you were quoting a post of mine and "giving credit where credit is due".

I see another such post above. I don't know if it is yours. If it is, you can stop trying to get my attention. Maybe you have sparked a new and uninspired board fad. Either way, I don't appreciate it.

That's kind of funny - Fanatical Hypocrite

[ In Reply To ..]
Exactly why is he collecting government benefits? Disability, retirement, unemployment? I'm afraid I'm not familiar enough with the British benefits system to know why this idiot even gets money. Sounds like he might not be getting those checks much longer though;)

I wouldn't take it too seriously. From one corner of this world to the other, from the first guy who ever sacrificed a person to bring the rains to Charles Manson thinking the Beatles were the four angels of Ezekiel we've had clerics, priests, ministers, shaman and prophets who are off their rockers. Fools, cons and sociopaths always hide in a cause greater than themselves.

I will say that his statement about the 9 to 5 job being a form of slavery that ends in disappointment is definitely how I see the current version of capitalism. If you work hard, behave honorably and remain honest your whole life, you'll get an early grave or, even worse, a job as a Wal-mart greeter should you somehow survive beyond society's opinion of your usefulness. I'm not trying to go on welfare because of it. That has to be the lamest excuse to be lazy. "I'm going on welfare because the socioeconomic system is unfair." That's right up there in hypocrisy with "Abortion is murder, so I'm going to kill a bunch of people."

Poor Obama LOL, Christians hate him for being Muslim, Muslims hate him for being Christian; capitalists hate him for being socialist, socialists hate him for being capitalist. Confusing times...

That cleric sounds to be as nutty as Orly Taitz. - no msg

Why turn this into a partisan bicker? They should put them - in training programs and get them jobs

[ In Reply To ..]
working, yes, 8-9 hours a day. Those who can show they're in sufficient need to qualify, of course.

That's the way these things are supposed to work. If any of this guy's followers like training as computer welders and physical therapy assistants somewhat less than their old jobs as warehouse clerks and janitors, oh, well.

It's even more likely to have a very different outcome for most than the cleric imagines, though. Young adults making living wages tend to acquire living families to raise and become appallingly domestic.

BTW, I was in the local ER from 1-1:30 this morning and saw three other patients arrive--two infants and one toddler, all fully occupying their tired young parents. :)

Big Oil WelfareMay 18, 2011
The Senate blocked a bill Tuesday that would repeal about $2 billion a year in tax breaks for the five biggest oil companies.  First of all, this bill should have been initiated in the Republican-controlled House as it is a "money bill."  Second, I do not fault the three Democrat senators who voted against this bill.  A senator's job is to represent the people of his state, and that is what they are doing.  However, I do fault  MOST of the Republicans for voting ag ...

No More Corporate Welfare!Apr 08, 2011
I know it's not realistic to think that we could ever get to the point where people would pay the taxes they are supposed to pay, but that would solve our budget problems and nobody would go hungry. The middle class would have more money to spend and we would buy things from the big companies who make them. We would all save money because we would be driving on better roads, not tearing our cars apart, children will be getting a better education and not have to move in with their parents wh ...

Update On Welfare FraudOct 12, 2011
Well, after a lot of thought and discussion, we turned our information over to the appropriate authority.  It came down to family.  Our family.  What we can live with knowing and what we can't.  What kind of an example we want to set for our children.  While we have no plans to disclose this to our children now, maybe some day when they're older, we will use it to teach them a lesson about actions and consequences.  It also made us realize that maybe ...

Report Mom For Welfare Fraud?Oct 10, 2011
My husband's mother has received welfare on and off throughout her life.  She has always found a way to milk the system or somone.  About a year ago, she found out she was the heir to some mineral rights, which yields her about $7000 a month.  When she first started receiving this inheritance, she cashed her checks and deposited them into her account.  At that time, she was living in a low-income apartment, receiving medicaid, food stamps, fuel assistance, free cell ...

Michele Bachmann: Welfare Queen Posted on Dec 22, 2009 By Yasha Levine Michele Bachmann has become well known for her anti-government tea-bagger antics, protesting health care reform and every other government “handout” as socialism. That’s right, the anti-government insurrectionist has taken more than a quarter-million dollars in g ...

Kansas welfare recipients will be unable to get more than $25 per day in benefits under a new law sent this week to Republican Gov. I posted a link that was written back in Aug 2012, but it provides a lot of context to the current IRS targeting story.  I'm not by any means defending the IRS.  Targeting based on any predjudice is unacceptable (i.e., churches during Bush Adm that were audited for sermons that were interpreted as anit-war).  I was warned when I itemized one year that claiming a home office was an IRS red flag and to be absolutely within the defiition of a home office because they have progr ...

Hardworking Americans Are Subsidizing Welfare--Where Does The Money Go?Nov 07, 2013
Wondering just how many of your tax dollars are subsidizing welfare?  Americans' welfare money giveaway travels in more than one direction--and disproportionately so. When thinking about the term "welfare," Americans generally don't realize that the bulk of taxpayers' dollars going to welfare are actually going to subsidize big business.  This "corporate welfare" costs Americans far more than they might realize. Just something to think about. *****This article ...
