Romney loves his family. You can't argue with that.

Posted: Sep 24, 2012

You at least have to give him credit for one thing. Romney loves his family. Okay, maybe not his dog so much, but he seems to be a good family man. He deserves credit for that if you are waivering about whether to vote for him or not.

;

He really can't be worried about our families though if we're in that certain % - or rather if we are not in the top %

[ In Reply To ..]
He's a perfectly nice guy. He just doesn't relate to the world I live in. Sure he loves his family. He just doesn't care about mine, unless we happen to be in that top %. That doesn't make him a bad person, but he isn't my choice for President. I think the President has to know about and care about all of us. He doesn't even know us and certainly can't relate to our daily lives and problems. If he could, I'm sure that he would care. He's just never really been exposed to the Middle Class other than when he was laying them off at Bain.

At the RNC Romney said - kr

"Obama promised to lower the ocean. I promise to help your family." I believe him.

But he won't say how he would do that - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
There have been absolutely no specifics. He does talk in generalities. If he would come out with actual specifics, I would listen to what he had to say.
Did Obama say - how he would lower the ocean?
[ In Reply To ..]
No specifics. Just generalities. Just "trust me." Yeah, right.
Climate change? Something republicans don't - believe in. nm

[ In Reply To ..]
Obama never said he would lower the oceans. I guess Romney was joking about Obama's energy policy and his stance on global warming. As for Romney, I'm not so sure how anyone can help families without also taking steps to save the planet. Climate change is certainly nothing to joke about; it's difficult enough to convince people of its seriousness when they don't believe in science.

Why can't he relate? - SK1

[ In Reply To ..]
In response to the OP, I'll preface this by saying that I'm sure Obama loves his family, too.

I don't know that Romney can't relate to people in the middle class. Certainly, he's lived a privileged life, but he's also worked hard to achieve what he has (like the middle class), he's done a lot of good in his life (like many in the middle class) and has suffered his share of trials and tribulations (like, I'm sure, everyone in the middle class). Money does not make one immune to the hardships in life, many (if not most) of which are not monetary.

That he HAS achieved great success I think is a testament to what he might be able to DO for the middle class, as opposed to working against them. Would you vote for a man who had failed at everything he's ever done?

As for Bain Capital, please remember that he always SAVED a lot of jobs in that venture. The rest of it has been discussed ad nauseum, so I won't rehash it.

Not trying to make you change your choice for president, just giving credit where credit is due.

Maybe he has worked hard - sm

He was born rich.
He got the best of education.
He was given one million dollars to go off to school and buy a house.
He has very wealthy contacts because of who his father was, which made everyone want to do business with him.

I'm sure he did work hard, but that's relative when compared to most of us who weren't born rich, did not get a Harvard education (which is worth gold), have not been handed a million dollars and even more education, and very high-level contacts.

We work hard. We just don't have as much to work with. He can't relate to that. If you aren't rich, he seems to say, you are doing something wrong. You are one of 'them', not one of us. He goes on to let us know that we never will be able to take responsibility for ourselves. We are dependent on the government. We feel that we are entitled for housing, food, and education. Because we have these differences from his own background, as he said in that meeting, he isn't concerned about us. Well, I am concerned about us. I'm not so concerned about those who are able to burn money. I am concerned about those who will not be able to put a meal on the table, change a flat tire, or take their baby to the doctor.
We pay for Medicare and Social Security. They are not poverty programs - We also vote
[ In Reply To ..]
He may not like us or care about what happens to us, but we vote. We do understand that we've been putting in money toward what used to be called an 'old-age pension' (Social Security) and Medicare all our working lives. It is no disgrace for us to use those benefits. It's no disgrace for our military men and women to use the benefits they've earned from our government. It isn't Welfare. There is nothing shameful about it. What he said was shameful.
Respectfully... - SK1
[ In Reply To ..]
So? He didn't have a choice into which family he was born. And if made the most of the connections, good for him. It's the American dream. We should begrudge him that?

I still don't think that means he can't relate to other people. Some of the most giving, compassionate, down-to-earth people I've known were very wealthy. I don't think wealth and an ability to relate are mutually exclusive.

In this case, they are exclusive. - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't dislike him. I just see him as some kind of plastic personality. He's even likable at times, but just not my preference to be the leader of the free world.

That is such an unfair statement...you really do NOT - know what/who he relates to !

[ In Reply To ..]
You simply say that because he has money. Personally, I would rather have a president that has a clue of how to obtain success and run a business. Also, I am really becoming afraid of Obama. He does not even seem concerned about Natl Security, our allies, and is naive on the Middle East. I voted for him, but it will not happen again. I feel he actually lied to us about the Libya murders to cover up.

You do realize Romney's success has come on the back - of the workers of the companies he destroyed

[ In Reply To ..]
Romney is a success in that he amassed millions of dollars as a corporate raider.

Those companies that he raided, however, didn't fair so well when Romney and Bain Capital got involved. They borrowed government money to take over companies, loaded those companies with the debt of the money they borrowed, saddled the same companies with "management fees" to give themselves even more money, and then cashed out even more millions and left the dried, crumbling husks of those companies and their workers behind.
No, I do not know that, - because it's not true.
[ In Reply To ..]
Not the OP, but your comment deserves a rebuttal. I do not accept the premise of your conclusions because they are political talking points and sound like class envy. Besides, they are not true.
Just found an interesting website... - SK1

Totally ridiculous. Not even worth a response. - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
I know, I know, I just responded.
Exactly. I wouldn't make money by destroying the lives and incomes of others - He did that and may still do it
[ In Reply To ..]
What he did at Bain was nothing to be proud about.

Loving his family really doesn't...sm - JTBB

qualify him for president. I love my dogs, but that doesn't exactly make me the dog whisperer.

Well, Obama was never qualifed to be president - on any aspect... and it shows! nm

I can remember a Thanksgiving dinner several years ago that was nearly ruined when politics crept into the conversation - something we usually scrupulously avoided.  Now, they're arguing over whether Obama has been a bigger failure economically, as a commander-in-chief, or with his international policies.  What a difference 4 years makes!   ...

The gag rule did nothing to prevent use of government financing for abortions because that was already illegal under federal l ...

Where Is The Evidence That Barack Obama Loves America?Feb 25, 2015
The firestorm of denunciation of former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, for having said that he did not think Barack Obama loved America, is in one sense out of all proportion to that remark — especially at a time when there are much bigger issues, including wars raging, terrorist atrocities and a nuclear Iran on the horizon. Against that background of strife and dangers on the world stage, it may seem as if Obama’s feelings, or Giuliani’s opinion about those feelings, s ...

Ok.  I am not sure what I need here but maybe some opinions would be great!!! I moved against my parents wishes (about a yr ago), I am 35 y/o and took my son (13 y/o)with me.  They wanted me to move to be near them after my divorce.  I did not want this and wanted to take my son  and make it on my own.  However the problems do not end there, my parents then tried to take my son from me.  I have been disowned by my mother after a strongly worded email stating if she ...
