Stinky family

I ride the bus regularly as does this certain family (mom + 3 small children). They all smell. Its not BO, but whatever it is, it is bad, like moldly clothes or something. They stink up the whole bus. I'm worried I stink when I get to work. How do I handle this?

Is it mildew? That sour smell that wet laundry gets if it doesn't dry fast enough and old sponges get in the sink?

I think you are ok on the bus. As obnoxious as that smell is, I don't think it will contaminate you unless you touch them.

but if you're worried, find a sample size Febreze at Target of Walmart and spritz yourself as you walk from the bus to you job.

and they were from India. Both of them each day boarded smelling stinky. My nose is sensitive and I told the guide not to sit me anywhere close to them because the stench was too much for me. This is not the only time I have heard of stinky folks. My friend works for an Indian lady and also complains of the smell. Do not know if garlic, cumin, foods ingested or what but her complaint is the same. I have several others who have similar but will let those go for now but it is not BO, just a horrible smell, to me at least.

When you think about how bad the economy is getting, many people probably do not have soap and water anymore on a regular basis. Some are homeless, live in the streets and do not have access to basic hygiene that most take for granted. The poorer you are, the higher the cost for basic necessities.

The trip cost around $2500-3000 per person so that would be around $6000 for the man and his son. That certainly does not equate to how bad the economy is and besides the economy has picked up, maybe not MT work but the economy certainly has, more jobs, etc. This has nothing to do with homeless, living on any streets, and certainly not poor if you can afford a trip like this. The first sentence on my posting told the story, a tour, trip, guided one at that. Poor folks have higher costs for basics? That is a good one. So you are saying a bar of soap costs more if you're poor than if you are rich?

If they are vegetarians, apparently meat eaters - stink to them also.

people from India and both of them state how stinky they are, their house, etc. One of my ex said the lady where she works had all her used sanitary napkins in a closet and did not want to throw them away? A closet full of stink. Another ex-housekeeper told me about cleaning for Indian lady and was told by her the clothing is not washed and just worn and hung back up. I have been around both meat eaters and vegetarians and I guarantee no one stinks like the ones I spoke of. It is not body odor but rather something that has permeated their entire bodies and stink bothers my nose. Stink, I don't think, is the way of the world.

Been living in my apartment for years, and the guy downstairs has not once run the vacuum that I have heard. The hallways stinks downstairs like nothing is ever washed. The carpet has to be filthy, and it smells like he just never washes anything. I have told the landlord on numerous occasions to no avail. Says he "came with the house." I have never smelled an actual perspiration odor, but just unclean. I would move if I could afford to, but until I find a part-time job I'm stuck.

That can be an indication of mental illness. - sm

Hygiene problems can be a sign of mental illness or just bad upbringing. Some people just have poor hygiene.

A lot of old men smell like rancid hair oil, even if they are clean. Then there are the ones who smoke and the combination smells like the bottom of a bar's dumpster.

I also know several people who start to smell like fresh earth (like soil in the big bags) or cow manure fertilizer when they go off their psych meds, right before they get admitted. I can sometimes pick it up yards away.

A few others smell like rotting fruit instead, but you don't seem to be describing that.

How interesting about the psych meds - Never heard of it

If this worries you, ask your supervisor or coworkers to let you know if you smell. Just explain that the bus you ride sometimes smells mildewy and you are afraid it will make your clothes smell. No need to mention the people on the bus themselves.

So a few months ago my grandmother got pneumonia which lead to CHF and then she was put on a ventilator...before that the last time she was in the hospital was 25 years ago for a hysterectomy.
