It's hard to know exactly what you or he meant without context. Failing to discuss jobs and the economy (during an election or outside one) is actually not a communist trait. In fact, the only communist I ever met never shut up about them.

Beyond that, with no context to this quote, Brian Williams could have been making a joke, filling air time (i.e. modern news) or any number of things.

If we take everything literally, Jonathan Swift wrote possibly the most distasteful cook book of all history.

Brian Williams has a very dry sense of humor and is a "tongue in cheek" kinda guy. He is referring to the politicalmedia system that is more preoccupied with Donald Trump, trumped up stories about Libya, and lies about bailing out US auto manufacturers.

As usualy the conservative rags are twisting a quote.
