I haven't researched. Are these state laws an effort to force - the Supremes to revisit RvW? nm

The law won't last. It'll be fought and overturned, and in the end who knows how much money and resources the whole thing will have sucked up.

feel required to take on the challenge? And what form might a new law take if one were to come out of it?
Unlike the 1970s, we now know that over 2/3 of all fetuses that have implanted in the uterus are aborted by nature at various points during pregnancy, but most in the first couple months or so, and that potentially as many as 80% of all fertilized eggs are lost after conception to natural abortion.
With modern medicine what it is--and will be very soon!--what would our duty to these fertilized eggs be if we could save them medically? If we defined life as beginning at conception (don't expect that to happen, but...), what would our duty to all of them be? Somehow I suspect a lot of these fundamentalists in state legislatures haven't actually thought this through.
At some point, those who call themselves pro-life, including the subset that genuinely considers life sacred, will realize that rescuing 2-month-along naturally aborting fetuses by supporting them for several months in hospitals would mean spending enormous, enormous sums of money. Insurance companies could never cover the costs; it would require public money. Do we save these lives because we can? Will we have a duty to save them--because we can?
At some point, inevitably, more will start noting that saving these babies would result in an acceleration of the growth of those minority populations that currently have higher birth rates than the dwindling white majority. How might this affect attitudes?
Just thinking. After all, the day is coming when we will be able to save the lives of preemies born 6 months early, just as we do now for those born 3 months early. Do we save them? Do we save them in the same hospital where other babies are being aborted at the same stage?
yes; it is a constitutional challenge - sm

From the article above: "Although the likelihood of this measure surviving a court challenge remains in question, this bill is nevertheless a legitimate attempt by a state legislature to discover the boundaries of Roe v. Wade," Dalrymple said. "Because the U.S. Supreme Court has allowed state restrictions on the performing of abortions and because the Supreme Court has never considered this precise restriction ... the constitutionality of this measure is an open question."
Right. Gov. Dalrymple is challenging RvW, which currently - rules. Will the Supremes wave him/them away? nm

It is NOT going to stop abortions, it is just going to kill women who choose back alley, coat hangers, etc. And it will be low income women cause those with means will fly to wherever for "just a weekend at a spa, be back soon" and have it done.
This issue and the marriage issue go COMPLETELY against the freedom that those restricting claim to care so deeply about. If a theocracy is what they want that is NOT what the USA is about.
I forget where it was but someone had a good answer to "the constitution was based on the 10 commandments" and they went through each one and showed just how false that statement is. Freedom OF and freedom FROM religion is in the constitution. Against abortion, dont have one. Against same-sex marriage, dont marry someone of the same sex. MYOB!

Abortion. Can We Really Afford To Be Wrong?Sep 05, 2012My personal journey to an answer for this difficult question has been neither one of religious discovery nor a form of moral evolution. It is this conclusion--which, while difficult to come to for me personally as a former pro-choice advocate, has been as inescapable as it has been wrenching:
It isn't necessary to argue religion. It isn't necessary to examine moral systems of thought. From a purely scientific and medical standpoint, there is absolutely no point in th ...
