I find it ironic that unions members

Posted: Mar 10, 2011

are protesting that republicans are forcing something on them that they don't want.  Funny they didn't understand that very argument when many were protesting against Obamacare and upset that the democrats were forcing something on them they didn't want either.  Sucks doesn't it....

Now the republicans are doing exactly what the dems did with health care - doesn't make it any less wrong. I understand it's all the law, etc., but nobody wants to see the other side. Too many hypocrits saying, "well, you did it, so can I." It totally sucks!

Now there's talk about taking the WI bill to the courts, just like the health care bill, but again, it's all about whose side you're on whether this is okay. Politicians continue making more and more power grabs - why? Because we let them continue to play a game of tit-for-tat.

I'm watching these WI protesters on the news and now they're actually starting to make arrests - people are breaking things, defying police, and Rev. Jackson is there saying that if something isn't done, the protests will escalate, which he doesn't really explain except to say there will be more protests. I live in Ohio and Gov. Kasich is going further than WI, so I know it's going to get bad here, too.

What has this country come to? It makes me scared for what's going to happen and sad for the country we're leaving our children.

I have to disagree....Walker is looking out for - all the workers in Wisconsin

[ In Reply To ..]
because the state is in financial trouble. No one is talking about the OTHER people in Wisconsin who are NOT members of the public union...and whose taxes PAY those people. His only other recourse would be to raise taxes, and that would hurt EVERYONE. He asked for the union to make concessions, and while they made some, the refused to make others, like agree not to bargain for wages higher than the inflation rate. And people make him sound like a union buster...that is ridiculous. The ONLY reason a union is involved is that the public workers, whose salaries and bennies are paid for in tax dollars, are unionized. And he exempted police and fire from any of it. They can still bargain collectively. So for Pete's sake people, stop acting like we are on the verge of Hitlerville.

The Democrats are making fodder out of this to have SOMETHING to run on in 2012 (they think) because going into this they had nada. That is why Jesse Jackson is there...and people are buying into the hysteria. Please, please....read ALL the articles from both sides and REALLY understand what is happening here.

All the man is doing is trying to pull his state's fat out of the fire before it ends up like our FEDERAL government, only states can't print up more money like the feds can.

ARghhh...STOP THE INSANITY. lol.

I'm totally with you on this one - Zville MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I used to be a teacher, so I know all about the unions and how perverse they can be. All I'm saying is, like you said, get all the info on both sides - no one seems to be doing that. I'm behind Gov. Kasich in what he's doing here in Ohio, as well. I just hate that this is perceieved as getting even by some dems.

The problem is that yes, states are trying to pull things together and everyone agrees something needs to be done, but no one wants to give up anything of thier own.

Unions are now calling for state-wide strikes - talk about hysteria. The law states strikes are illegal and anyone on strike or participating in a work stoppage can be fired - can you imagine if that happens? It's just hard to tell where and how it's all going to end.

We need that blonde woman back, doing those commercials - "STOP THE INSANITY!" LOL!
I agree!!!! lol - nm

remember those dems and make sure I campaigned against them in the next election.
You're funny - mbmt
[ In Reply To ..]
Walker and his buddies basically killed their political careers by pulling this stunt of taking collective bargaining "rights" away from public employees. Remember this when the next election comes around. There will be recalls, but I doubt it will be the democrats in the state that are recalled.
They did not take away collective bargaining rights - away from all public employees.
[ In Reply To ..]
and they did not take away ALL rights. Police and fire are exempt from the bill. That alone debunks the union busting lie. You don't bust a union by exempting members from the bill. So please stop posting the same lie over and over and over again. It does not gain any truth with repetition.

I doubt that Wisconsinites who are NOT members of the public union are going to be going after the heads of the people who were protecting THEM...that being the Republicans.

The truth is out now...the "heart" of the union (aka national bank of the DNC) has been exposed. They said it themselves when they used the words (or spread the word) defunding. The only way you defund a union is loss of dues. They want that money to keep on flowing...for obvious reasons. The DNC needs union money going into 2012.

The internet is being flooded with video now with union lawyers and union bosses telling how they REALLY feel...the Dems are going to regret mightily escalating this. It is going to come back and bite them big time. Already seeing them on TV as well.

They said they wanted a fight....don't think this is at all what they had in mind, but...in their arrogance they STILL don't understand the meaning of the midterms.
Liar - mbmt
[ In Reply To ..]
Oh, I get it. Anyone who does not agree with your political viewpoints is a liar. Are you the one that called me a liar a couple of days ago on this board?

I am not a public employee and never have been part of a union. I, however, do not support Governor Walker and neither do the majority of people in Wisconsin.
I did not call you a liar. This is the first post... - where I used the word lie...
[ In Reply To ..]
not "liar." Perhaps you prefer "not true." Saying that Walker is out to "bust unions" is not true. Even worswe "untruth" is "Republicans are out to bust all unions." There is absolutely no evidence to support either of those things. Walker did NOT strip collective bargaining rights from ALL public employees. Police and fire are exempt. You cannot "bust a union" if you exempt some of its members. If his intent was to "bust" the union he would have exempted no one and would not have made the concessions he made. You are a smart person, you know that.

There is absolutely no foundation to suggest that "Republicans" et al are out to "bust" unions. And the only reson Democrats are crying foul and running backward is that tons and tons and TONS of union money pours directly into the DNC coffers. MAJOR cash cow for their political operations.

I personally think that unions as an entity should NOT be able to donate to any political party. If their members want to individually, fine and dandy, but to take members' dues (including members that do not share their political philosophy) and funnel it to the DNC is wrong on SO many levels.

But that is a fight for another day.
Union Busting and Liars - mbmt
[ In Reply To ..]
The public employees in Wisconsin do not all belong to the same union. For example, WEAC represents the teachers in the state. I am well aware that the police and firefighters are exempt, but they are not represented by WEAC (for example), so to say that Governor Walker isn't interested in union busting is really debatable. I think he is and so do many others, and many of us see this stripping of most collective bargaining rights from the rest of the public employees as an attempt at union busting. You have the right to your opinion, but it is not the only opinion out there. And who are the cash cows for Republicans?

Read the bill and tell me they are taking away the rights of the union(s). I saw nothing in there about that.

Evidently you don't seek the real truth. You just believe everything a union leader and/or politician tell you. You are the type of person those two groups love. Do some research yourself and weed try to weed out truth from fiction. It might surprise you....and that goes for all news, written or spoken.

I think we're all almost exhausted from having gone through how ever many wars we've been through, the perfectly awful economy, the outsourcing of many of our jobs overseas, the hopelessness of knowing that there isn't a darn thing we can do about any of the above, and then someone makes laws forcefully, without the benefit of enough discussion, and we want to say, ENOUGH! I HAVE HAD IT! At least that's the way I feel. It's as if the world has gone mad and all of the "rules" that we've gone by no longer work because there are no consequences and no accountability. That's my theory in short. I could make it longer. LOL. It's good to talk to people on both sides of these issues without snarling.

My memory is that great, but wasn't Obama up front about health care reform during the campaign? I kinda remember him saying a thing or 2 about it.

Walker did not campaign on stripping unions of their collective bargaining rights... or else he would have lost.

Hence the protests and folks being just a bit peeved.

Do I need to remind you that Fox screwed up the pie chart?? Actually, the majority of Americans do not believe in stripping unions of their collective bargaining rights. He is doing what is in his best interest... period. Getting rid of collective bargaining was not mentioned during the campaign. He knew better because he wouldn't have won. Therefore, he is not representing the people who elected him. It's lying by omission.

Speaking of running away, nice drive-by snipe. We need more of them on this board.lol.nm
You will have a case when someone actually - tries to strip ALL unions
[ In Reply To ..]
of their collective bargaining rights. He didn't even strip that one union in one state of their collective bargaining rights. Police and fire are exempt. Those blanket statements...tsk tsk.

And he would not have to have done what he did had they made the little concession about not asking for raises over the inflation rate. Tsk tsk.

Sometimes bullheadedness doesn't work...and when it didn't, the Senators picked up their toys and ran screaming from the schoolyard because they weren't men enough to let Democracy work.

And all so they will have talking points in 2012. And they think we don't see through it. Bless their hearts.

Ummmm....don't think Obama campaigned - on ramming it through

[ In Reply To ..]
whether we liked it or not, with our economy in the tank and deficit at all-time high...if he had, he would have lost.

And as far as "stripping their collective bargaining rights," had they agreed to his compromise, which was stripping only the right to bargain for higher wages if they exceeded the inflation level...which they did not...that is all that would have been "stripped."

Basically it looks like the "greedy" union wants what they want and the common people (other unionized workers and nonunion workers in the state) to pony up, no matter WHAT they ask for.

Hence why not many of those "common" Wisconsinites are storming the Capitol. They are peeved all right, but not at Walker. Who is looking out for THEM? It sure isn't the union, and it sure isn't the union members.

So much for altruistic unions. So much for altruistic Democrats.

Not the point at all - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
The bottom line is that nobody likes things being forced on them that they don't like. It would just be nice if people on both sides could open up a bit and understand that. Perhaps be kinder to a conservative protesting against Obamacare as well as being kinder to a union worker who is just trying to keep what was promised to them. Goes both ways really. Just trying to open up people's minds a bit....obviously that can't be done with some of you.

I'm very open - no1joe

I'm not trying to say that people didn't have the right to speak out against healthcare reform. Of course they did. However, healthcare reform was brought up during Obama's campaign. You had the choice whether or not to cast your vote accordingly. This isn't something that was kept under wraps to secure your vote and then brought to light after the fact. In that case, the majority of the people were in favor of what the candidate was proposing. In this case, it was never brought up because people wouldn't have gone for it. It's sneaky, and people have a right to be upset about it.
He may have campaigned on health care reform... - Zville MT
[ In Reply To ..]
but I do recall during a debate with Hilary Clinton when he said he did not agree with a mandate for health care. Now we have not only a mandate, but fines and possible jail time if you don't comply?

Yes, he was up front about reform, but there are a few things in the bill that were either denied were going to be in it or just weren't discussed until after the bill.
Wow, I think I remembering him saying he was - going to be the President
