Darrell Issa Holds Absurd IRS Hearing In Which He Is The Only One Allowed To Speak

Posted: Mar 6, 2014

Issa actually reached over and turned off Cummings' mic.   That breaks the rules, by the way.

I don't think the RW Machine is reporting this, so just wanted to be sure Cons see what a wonderful, ethical, respectful public servant Issa is.

The video in link shows it all in link below.  Please watch even if you don't like the source or the read the article.  It's really shameful and all the facts are right there on the video.  Disrespect at its finest.

And this is for exclusive Fox watchers in case you really want to know what information your media source is withholding:

"Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) exploded at House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) during a hearing about the IRS' inappropriate targeting of organizations seeking tax exempt status, specifically criticizing Issa for releasing relevant evidence to Fox News without also providing it to the committee.

During Issa's recent appearance on Fox News Sunday, the network aired selectively quoted emails from ex-IRS official Lois Lerner, claiming they revealed evidence of "political targeting" by the IRS which may have extended as far as the White House. Media Matters has obtained the emails, which instead show Lerner specifically instructing colleagues to not focus on political activity while scrutinizing tax-exempt organizations.

Issa adjourned the March 5 House Oversight Committee hearing after Lerner testified that she would plead the Fifth and not answer the committee's questions. Cummings responded that he still had a statement and a question, which he proceeded to offer even while his microphone was cut off and Issa left the room. In his remarks Cummings accused Issa of providing Fox News with details of the investigation which were not provided to the committee (emphasis added):"

Actually the absurdity was Cummings - Issa did the right thing

nm

on what basis? - nm

[ In Reply To ..]

Reopening an adjourned hearing. - No opening statements allowed.

[ In Reply To ..]
Cummings was aware of the rules prior to his tirade.
It's a congressional hearing. Members have the opportunity to participate BEFORE - Issa shuts it down
[ In Reply To ..]
Look it up. Those are the rules.
Yes, before OPENING a hearing. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
This was REopening an adjourned hearing. Those are the rules. Look them up.
Well, then you know the rules of adjournment? - Motion made and seconded
[ In Reply To ..]
Issa is running a kangaroo court. Cummings should have been allowed his time.

Issa should be impeached.

Did you watch his childish school tantrum he had? - Absurd and childish - also

[ In Reply To ..]
uncalled for. He didn't ask a question like he said he was going to, tried making a speech or giving a lecture or whatever. Totally wrong. He should not be sitting on the committee.
Cummings acted like a fool. He had no right (sm) - Abby
[ In Reply To ..]
having a tantrum when the meeting was already adjourned. It worked out well for him though as he got to continue his childish rant outside for the Lame Stream. They lapped it right up. :))
Actually Issa is the fool. He's being criticized across the board and now has his tail - betwixt his legs
[ In Reply To ..]
admitted he was wrong and apologized to Cummings.
A tantrum? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I can't imagine why speaking up about the due process to which one is entitled should be called a tantrum.
Please familiarize yourself with the rules - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Because he didn't follow the rules. - He had his chance
[ In Reply To ..]
It was not the time, nor his place to try and give some wacked out temper tantrum. He also lied. He said he had a procedural question. There was no question. The meeting was adjourned everyone was leaving and then he decided to have a childish tamtrum. Reminded me of the toddler I saw in Walmart when his mommy wouldn't buy him the toy he wanted he dropped to the floor have a temper tantrum flailing around. His mommy said you need a nap. That's exactly what Cummings needed. A time out in the corner and a nap.

Cummings needs to follow the rules set up by the committee not do what he wants and when he doesn't get his way have a temper tantrum. There is no place for what he did in politics when it is concerning something so important as the criminal actions of Lerner.

Hope to see him go soon.
How do you even know WHAT he was trying - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
to say? Issa never gave him the opportunity to speak!
I heard what he was saying. It's called listening - Even though the mic was off
[ In Reply To ..]
you could still hear him. His outright childish antics reminded me of that old song title from the 60s - The Fool on the Hill.
I don't think it was childish at all - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Of course he didn't ask a question. He tried and was shut off. Did you not view the footage? If Issa can't behave like a grown man instead of a jack-booted little bully, HE is the one who should not be sitting on the committee.
Really? Because it seems to me that it's - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Issa who should not be sitting on the committee -- or ANY committee for that matter.

So, then why did Issa apologize today? - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
x

Sometimes you do whatever you have to do to - shut the idiots up.

[ In Reply To ..]
nm
No, sometimes you do what's right. Issa was wrong and he admitted it. Reps continue - to turn people off
[ In Reply To ..]
They are supposedly trying hard to change their image, but they continue to show their true colors, their real and basic ideals. Those spots just keep coming through the whitewash.

But good for Issa for doing the right thing and admitting how rude and profoundly impolite (not to mention just outright wrong) he was.

I guess you must have missed this short video (sm) - Tit for Tat
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
that's just another example of Issa breaking the rules - thanks! lol
[ In Reply To ..]
No, it's the dems that continue to turn people off - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
No. For goodness sake. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
People in positions of power DO NOT apologize just to "shut the idiots up." It's totally unnecessary to apologize when one is in the right.

When one is in the wrong, one apologizes. It's called integrity. These are not middle school children. If he apologized just to shut someone up, that would make him a weenie. I doubt that's how you really want to portray him.
Don't you see? Cummings was using typical - Democrat Deflection.
[ In Reply To ..]
Take the heat off Lerner in case she weakens, spills the beans and ultimately tells the truth.
Just waiting for JJ to step in and say DI is a racist. - They're nothing if not consistent. LOL
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Why interject race? This isn't about race. What do you mean "they're nothing if - not consistent"
[ In Reply To ..]
when race hasn't even been an issue in this sad, disrespectful display by Issa. "There' nothing if not consistent"? Are you projecting? Like BEFORE it's news? lol.

Issa knows these IRS hearings are a ridiculous charade and he just didn't want Cummings to point that out. Has nothing to do with race.

Why would you even bring that up?
Because it's typically JJ's MO. - No harm. No foul. No message.
[ In Reply To ..]
NM
BECAUSE Jesse brought it up - he was happy (sm) - me
[ In Reply To ..]
to say it to the LSM. By "they" I mean the democrats. THEY always bring it up. I am simply reporting. Issa did not bring it up. JESSIE DID, while defending Elijah's rude and uncalled behavior. If you don't like something, according to the Donkeys, you're racist. Plain and simple. People are sick of that.
The only reason they are a "charade" as you say, (sm) - me
[ In Reply To ..]
is because no one in this corrupt administration will cooperate. Eric Holder won't even investigate, (THAT'S THE CHARADE) and Lois Lerner who could probably implicate many of the higher ups (if you know what I mean) pleads the Fifth. The charade is due to lack of cooperation by the progressive radicals.

and the goal was accomplished, deflect from the fact - that IRS targeted conservatives

[ In Reply To ..]
and change the focus. It always works.

I beg to differ - Issa was the one trying to do that

[ In Reply To ..]
Despite the actual facts, he is trying to stick with the talking point that the IRS was targeting only conservative groups. Simply not true, which was why Rep. Cummings was silenced.

The NY Times (link below):
"...the I.R.S. didn’t just scrutinize Tea Party groups, but also groups with names that included “progressive” and “occupy.” That’s because the agency wasn’t on a political witch hunt, but was instead trying to figure out whether thousands of “social welfare” groups were abusing their tax exemptions by engaging in politics, of whatever stripe.

That undermines Mr. Issa’s narrative of aggrievement. It shows that Mr. Issa’s endless hearings are nothing more than hyperbolic stagecraft. And it’s exactly the kind of thing that House minorities are supposed to point out when it happens. For Mr. Issa, the fear of again being exposed as a fraud was greater than his fear of being accused of trampling on minority rights. When politicians reach for the microphone switch, you know they’ve lost the argument."

Thank you. Excellent explanation - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
Exactly. He should be busy trying to close that "social welfare" loophole rather - than wasting time
[ In Reply To ..]
with these useless hearings.

Oh, yes, we're aware. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Issa is my hero!!!

Why? - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
x

Because he's searching for the truth behind the - OBAMA ADMINISTRATION'S LIES.

[ In Reply To ..]
These lies about the IRS, NSA, Benghazi, etc., you know, THOSE LIES!!!!!
people searching for truth aren't afraid to let others speak - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
Then why are we hushed when trying to find out the - truth about Obama's birthplace?
[ In Reply To ..]
Good question, eh?
that's funny. We haven't hushed the birthers. - lol
[ In Reply To ..]
Maybe not "hushed. How about your best attribute then? - DEFLECTION
[ In Reply To ..]
LOL
I don't understand what you're asking. - huh?
[ In Reply To ..]

Issa is a criminal. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Rep. Darrell Issa's past includes arrests for weapons charges and auto theft, suspicion of arson, and accusations of intimidation with a gun.

Funny, on this board that's usually called a - thug

[ In Reply To ..]

ObamaCrimes.com - We could say that about B.O., too.

[ In Reply To ..]
Before you jump all over me, note I said "could."

That is irrelevant to his job there - Besides, all of them have something

[ In Reply To ..]
they've done wrong.

: o - it's irrelevant?

[ In Reply To ..]
We have ALL done "something" wrong. Few of us, however, have been arrested on weapons charges or auto theft. All it took was a screwdriver in a backpack for so many posters here to call Trayvon Martin a STREET THUG! Wow, how the lines do shift!
Oh I'm sorry, I didn't know you were a politician - Not talking about posters here
[ In Reply To ..]
Talking about politicians.

Oh do you really want to go there and start talking about TM again. That's not what this discussion is about.

You're deflecting from the original message.
I was discussing the notion of irrelevant - sounds like you are the politician

Why Is Issa Refusing To Include All Gunrunning OpsJun 24, 2012
In an earlier post, the claim was made that looking at gunrunning operations during the Bush administration was "stupid" since everything went so smoothly under the Wide Receiver program.  Well then, if that’s the case, WR should stand up under close scrutiny just fine, shouldn't it?  The operative word here is "if."  The F&F operation was not conceived in a vacuum. The fact that gunrunning tactics were initially (mis)conceived in 2005-2006 is inescapable, as ...

Issa Say Senate Republicans Were DrunkJan 01, 2013
I heard this interview on CNN an hour or so ago, but here's a link.  Issa didn't go as far as to say they were drunk, just a strong insinuation, but LaTourette did.  So I guess that's the new desperate strategy/talking point of the House... throwing your own party under the bus. ...

The only real "transparency" involved in the stunt that Feinstein pulled yesterday is that you got to see the ugly underbelly of "politics".  The report itself is crap, and she and everyone else knows that it's crap.  It was "written" before the (cough!) More Bad News For Issa. IRS Did Not Only "target"Jun 24, 2013
While we are left to speculate what it was in those interview transcripts disclosed last week that Issa was so intent on hiding (perhaps WH exoneration?), there is new information that casts further doubt on his White House connection theory.  Seems the IRS BOLO list (Be On the Lookout) included the key words "Occupy," "Progressive" and "Israel" and that the majority of those applications flagged for review were not Tea Party groups.  It would appear Issa's assumptions and basis f ...
