More bad news for Issa. IRS did not only "target"

While we are left to speculate what it was in those interview transcripts disclosed last week that Issa was so intent on hiding (perhaps WH exoneration?), there is new information that casts further doubt on his White House connection theory. Seems the IRS BOLO list (Be On the Lookout) included the key words "Occupy," "Progressive" and "Israel" and that the majority of those applications flagged for review were not Tea Party groups. It would appear Issa's assumptions and basis for the investigation are fundamentally flawed.

who is the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, an audit of the IRS audit, so to speak. George is the guy who conducted an audit of the IRS that concluded the federal agency had used inappropriate criteria to target tea party groups. Unfortunately, Mr George's report failed to mention at least seven IRS BOLO memos agents used as guidelines in their reviews of progressive groups. Is there a cover-up afoot after all? Stay tuned. This investigation is about to get really interesting.

The IRS investigated and found that the IRS did nothing wrong? Amazing!

This does absolutely nothing to excuse what the IRS did, it only broadens the number of people who should be outraged and hiring lawyers, if they don't have them already.

IMO, the only way to end this garbage is to end the IRS - surely there's a better way; flat tax, fair tax, etc.

though their tactics were questionable less than professional, they were doing their jobs. I, for one, want the IRS staff to perform a thorough review of each and every application that comes across their desks from potential political front organizations masquerading as "social welfare" groups, asking for tax-exempt status, regardless of their political flavors. As far as the outrage is concerned, you might be surprised at how much of that is being directed toward the wizard of witch hunts.

IRS is not going anywhere. Ever. Darrell Issa, on the other hand, is racking up quite a reputation for being a blowhard whose tactics are becoming more and more questionable day by day.

And don't be surprised if the IRS does go away, as soon as someone comes up with a viable alternative. People have been fed up with that department for decades. They have too much power and not enough accountability and this just proves it to the entire country.

the methods they used were questionable (I said that) and less than professional (I said that too). This implies the need for a thorough review of the SOPs the IRS uses when determining a group's political vs social welfare objectives, the nature of their ongoing activities and the destinations of their financial resources.

Number one step toward this end is to restore the original fundamental 501(c)(4)criteria language that their net income should be "devoted EXCLUSIVELY to charitable, educational, or recreational purposes," expunging the word "prdominantly" that ultimately allowed these groups to spend undisclosed amounts on political campaigns and initiatives. Beyond that, STRINGENT standards are in order to prevent future abuse of tax-exempt status.

So sorry you are disappointed by the disclosure of the truth that IRS mismanaged policies were not politically motivated and fail to rise to the level of "criminal" conduct as Issa has so vociferously suggested. You win some, you lose some. IMO you are dreaming to think the cons can continue on this course to abolish the IRS behind correctable policies arising out of departmental mismanagement.

Not to mention he didn't release all the groups the IRS paid special attention to in his report. They included a broad spectrum of Social Welfare Organizations, or posing as same, to fund raise for political groups. All political groups.
