I am the mom whose son came home from Afghanistan 2 weeks ago. We ended up not going, and I made sure my husband knew how unhappy I was at missing the chance - and so did the rest of the family! Fast forward to last Thursday and I got a text from my son saying he would be HOME on Saturday about 2 p.m. to pick up his car and clothes he had left at his brother's house. Totally jumped at the chance to be the one to pick him up from the airport so I was buzzing around for two days and finally about an hour before we were to pick him up he said his flight had been changed (found out he had been bumped - BIG mistake on the part of the airline) and wouldn't be in until 9:30. Bummed but undeterred, I called his brothers and sister-in-law and still had 8 of us at the airport at 9:30 that night to pick him up with two big signs when he got there. After we hugged him, a woman asked if he was military and he said yes, and many of the people in the airport applauded him. SOOOO proud to be there at that time, almost made up for missing him come back in the first place! He is leaving in the morning to drive back to his base, can't wait until he comes back to stay for a while!
