Would like an opinion please..I am in excruciating

pain. I have had low back issues but nothing like what hit me yesterday. Today, it is an 8 on a 1-10. Let me tell you, it feels like someone has hold of a fistful of my nerves going down the back of my left leg and is pulling hard. So painful that the narcotics the doctor gave me for when I needed them isn't even registering. I don't want to go to the ER but I am seriously thinking about going in tonight. It is 9:15 pm. I am afraid they will find something that will take time off of work to fix, you know what I mean? I am OOW all the time as it is. Just trying right now to use a heating pad and get in and stay in a comfortable position. Anyone else had anything that sounds like this? What happened to you? Thanks..

.....you should have it checked out. I know you don't want to go, but if you don't it might get worse and you might have to take even MORE time off work.

Yes sounds like what happened to me but my neck. - Narcotics did nothing - had to go to ER.

Horrible left shoulder and arm pain, not so much neck pain. Weakness in my left arm. Classic cervical herniated disk. I held out for a few days of pain like that - 10/10 (I was yelling at times.) Luckily I was able to get an MRI (approved to be expedited due to the weakness symptom) the very day before I had to resort to the ER. Had an ACDF the next day, out of hospital the day after my surgery. Unfortunately for me that meant a minimum of 3 weeks off per doctor's orders.

Do you have weakness? It would be worth going to the ER if your pain is that bad plus you have some symptom that would allow you to get a rush MRI (i.e. weakness, foot drop).

Don't mess around if you have weakness/foot drop in your leg. If it is a bad herniated disk pressing on your nerve, you could end up with permanent weakness.

Having to take work off is scary, but think of it like this - if the pain is sso bad you can't work anyway, you might as well see what the problem is.

I'm so sorry you're in that much pain. I've been there so I have a lot of empathy for you right now. I went through about 4 months of hell with mine with trying to figure out exactly what it was and then trying to "fix" it. The trick for me was definitely physical therapy and traction. My insurance approved a home traction machine for me and my PT told me that I should use it once or twice a week for the rest of my life. This was 5-1/2 years ago and while I still struggle with tightness in my back, I've never had anything even close to that experience.

At one point my husband was out of town and I drove myself to urgent care and the doctor there told me there was nothing he could do for me---I'd have to go to my PCP. I just burst out crying and hobbled out to my car, and I'm certainly not one to cry in public. But, it was an absolute nightmare.

I hope this a.m. you're feeling a little better. It's from sitting at this job. It changes our anatomy, much the same as weith wheelchair-bound people. Narcotics are not recommended for LBP, exercise is. If you can't bend forward, try arching backward. If you can't arch backwards, bend forward - IOW stretch in the opposite direction of the pain.

me some great ideas. I am headed out right now to go to my doc's office and we will go from there. You all are right too about losing time from work. Either way, I am going to have to do that, getting it fixed or working with PT probably. Again, I appreciate your sharing with me. Wish I could hug each and every one of you!!!

My feet.and could not stand at all. It became a 9/10 plus pain wise. I was home alone so ended up having to call 911. Bottom line is nerve impinging and disc issues. I will have imaging studies today. Am on massive amount of steroids and pain management. Problem is, I take care of my husband. We are going to need help now. Our insurance is taking good care of us. I can't tell you how much your posts have given me strength and I don't feel alone. God love you all for that.

Hello all, I'd like some opinions here. I do elderly care. I have a client who is 97 years old. Her mind is quite sharp, but she's in quite a lot of pain due to serious back fractures from falls. I have been getting horrible headaches, prob migraines, and I think it's bc of the eyestrain staring at my screen prob 12 or more hours a day.
