Since it seems that only rich people run for office...perhaps we should make campaign contributions illegal.  Make these politicians foot the bill.  The amount of money wasted on politicians for their campaigns would put a nice dent in our nations deficit.  Would also get rid of this crony capitalism and perhaps get some politicians who actually will do the right thing instead of doing what their biggest campaign contributors want them to do.  Just a thought.  I'm just so tired of this crap.

Lobbyists would have to go too and, unfortunately, that's not going to happen in my lifetime.

Whatever happened to Obama's promise on Lobbying? - Backwards Typist

[ In Reply To ..]
Did they just disappear like his other promises? I haven't heard anything about it since his campaign.

I know that former congressmen can't work for a lobbyist for 2 years, but I also see Chris Dodd working for the 'entertainment industry'. I haven't delved into his new job since I was so occupied with this week's budget fight.

Politicians and broken promises?!!! Now Backwards, are you trying to get me started on a rant? LOL

It's Saturday night and the weekend begins in just a matter of few hours! Must...resist...temptation to rant...

This is one Democrat who would LOVE making campaign contributions illegal - I would love it love it love it!

If I didn't make myself clear, I would really love making campaign contributions illegal! Can we do it?

Reality kicks in here to tell me that we don't have a chance. Those with the dollars make the rules.

Need Personal AdviceMar 11, 2011
Need advice. My son is 40 and has 2 children ages 12 and 14.  He is getting divorced but that's not the main issue.  For the past 20 years he has been sporadic in sending christmas cards/gifts, birthday and mother's day cards/gifts.  His wife would often cover for him but only some of the time.   I don't believe I have ever had a card, phone call or gift for mother's day.  The last few years I have gotten nothing on any of the aforementioned "sp ...

Personal QuestionJul 24, 2013
ONe of the questions on the MMPI is whether you have a fantasy life that no one knows about.  Which I do.  So I got to wondering, does everyone? Maybe it's normal?  We are not talking about sexual fantasies, but more like the old imaginary friends kind of fantasy life.  I have never EVER told ANYONE about my fantasy life, which has been going on for probably 40 years.  I have very well developed characters with names and histories.  When I'm alone I replay ...

Physical/Personal Qualities?Jun 08, 2010
Which would you prefer when looking for a mate? Personal Qualities or Physical Qualities? Why would one win out over the other to you? Guess ya'll are wondering why I ask this question? The answer is this: this guy that I know says he wants his mate to be average build (physical quality)and have certain personal qualities and won't settle for less than he wants. He's in his 50's by the way. My side of the argument is this: if my personal qualities are met then I'm ...

A Quirky (if Somewhat Personal) QuestionFeb 24, 2016
Do any of the women on here wear boxer shorts? I mean, MEN'S boxer shorts. The reason I ask is that I was complaining about the high cost of women's PJs and one of my friends told me she buys men's boxers at Walmart and sleeps in them with a large t-shirt for the top. I bought a 3-pack of boxers and found them amazingly comfortable! I was surprised to learn that two other women in our little group also wear boxers! Who knew? Somehow I just thought this was kind of funny. ...

Personal Beef With Insurance Company!!! Mar 12, 2010
We have BC of Oregon.  Just found out while making an appt with a psychologist for my son that they will allow typically up to 20 visits a year for mental health, and they count ANYTHING that has a "mental health" type of dx, including if the PCP sees my son for a sore throat and just mentions his depression, and the PCP throws a DX code for depression, that will count against the 20 visits, even if the PCP only responded with "you should talk to Dr. so-and-so about this" and offhandedly us ...

Menopause Question With Explicit Personal TMI.Mar 12, 2015
Explicit personal anatomical information below -  do not read if offended or prudish.       Wondering if anyone else has had similar symptoms and how did you resolve them. I think I may have started menopause and have done some research on my symptoms.  Seems like dry tissues and URI are a symptom, of which I have had both.  Very rarely do I get URIs, but after this one was resolved  (I hope), seems like i have somewhat dry but itchy and somewhat achy ...

Social Networking Websites And Personal InfoAug 22, 2011
A friend and I was having a conversation last night about the personal information people put out on these social websites. She read on another friends wall that her husband was in the hospital and gave the room number, name of hospital and telephone number. She was telling me why would someone post that kind of information for all to see. She was saying you don't have to be a PI to track down these people with all the information they give out. People don't use their noggin wha ...

An OpinionSep 26, 2016
I think one of the less talked about appeals of Donald Trump is anti-intellectualism as much as anything else.  His vocabulary has been described as juvenile which I imagine is about the same level as many of his followers.  They are tired of someone with a superior education talking down to them.  They understand Trump and don't have to open a dictionary or educate themselves to know what he's saying.   ...

What Is Your Opinion On This?May 12, 2014
Hello all, I'd like some opinions here. I do elderly care. I have a client who is 97 years old. Her mind is quite sharp, but she's in quite a lot of pain due to serious back fractures from falls. She does get around with a walker and all, and she has us, but life is not pretty for her and she has a lot of worries about perhaps someday needing to be placed in a home and such. She doesn't seem depressed, and doesn't talk about herself wishing she wasn't on this earth or ...

To make a rather long story short, my 11 YO son was diagnosed as type 1 DM last Monday. This means (in case you don't already know) that he has to take insulin before meals, do carb counting, check his sugar, etc. School started yesterday...he fought and fought me about going, so I didn't send him yesterday or today. We haven't had our f/u with the endo as of yet, so I'm not really comfortable sending him away for 6-7 hours now, depending on teachers to watch him. He starts m ...

My husband passed away recently.  We were married, had 2 daughters and were divorced, then, we got back together and remarried 3 years ago.  Our daughters are in their 30s now.  As he was going through the dying phase, he told me I would get money that he paid into.  The problem is that he wrote the girls names in the policy as beneficiaries because at that time, we were not married.  And he did not update that info after we got back together and remarried.&nb ...

An Opinion From Australian NewspaperJan 09, 2010
Military shock and awe won't overcome terrorism January 8, 2010 A smarter approach, which keeps the threat in perspective, is needed. NOT all ways of dying rate equally in the public mind. More than 1500 Australians died last year in road accidents, many of them preventable. Had terrorists killed the same number, we would have found that unbearable. Even a failed bombing attempt on a plane bound for Detroit on Christmas Day has instantly triggered tighter security. Because the Nige ...
