what skin products do you ladies use?

Posted: Feb 4, 2013

I have older (40) skin that is acne prone. I'm looking for a skin product that doesn't over dry as acne products can sometimes do because my skin is older and now wrinkle prone too. I use neutrogena moisturizer, aveeno dry skin oatmeal bar, and retin A. I only wear foundation maybe once or twice a week (neutrogena). I know it's the products that are causing me to break out because I used to use Rhonda Allison and didn't break out, my skin looked great, however, Rhonda Allison is very expensive. I'm just looking for products between 5 and 10 dollars, facial cleanser and facial moisturizer, that can be found at the local drug store. ;

I found Loreal Youth Code - it changed my skin

I'm in my early 30's and had suffered acne from my 20's on (I never had it as a teen--go figure). I had a lot of dark purple scars on my face, so even when I wasn't breaking out, I had a pizza face. :(

I bought Youth Code to fade the scars, but it incidentally also began to prevent breakouts. I'm on my third bottle now and my skin is SO much better. I finally feel like I have nothing to hide. I also have slight rosacea, and the redness is completely gone now.

I use it as my moisturizer and a spot-fader and an anti-acne product. If you need a heavy moisturizer, it won't be moisturizing enough--it's very slight. It works for me b/c my skin is prone to oiliness.

For a cleanser, I use an oatmeal bar from Trader Joe's. Again, I have to use gentle products b/c of rosacea.

I tried retin-A for a full year, but my skin never adapted. Bummer, b/c I really wanted it for my wrinkles!

I can relate to this. I am in my 40s and I used to break out a lot with big cysts sometimes and took forever to go away. I have been using Cetaphil daily cleanser and facial moistuizer. It is very good and makes your skin feel so soft. i do not break out anymore. A dermatologist recommended these products. Also, they last a very long time because you don't need much at all. I use both in the morning and at night. Good luck. I hope you find what you're looking for.

thank you both - sm

I only get oily a couple times a month, probably related to my cycle. I used to be super oily though. Now that i'm a little drier, i'm still breaking out. My skin just does not know how to turn over properly or something, even though I exfoliate with retin-A. I don't get the big underground cysts besides the rare one every other month related to stress, but I have these tiny bumps and white heads all over, making the surface look rough. I hate it. Rhonda Allison helped the integrity of my skin, but the cleansers are 30 bucks as well as the moisturizers and the bottles last just a month and a half or so.

I will try the Cetafil, I had heard this was good but i'm afraid to try new things because my skin reacts so badly to everything. I will also try the loreal youth code and compare the two. Just want clear skin is all, thanks again.

I use the Cetaphil bar, and it's extremely gentle.

Also, I identify with your little bumps. I thought I had regular whiteheads, but my dermatologist told me I had milia, which are encapsulated keratin cysts and can be quite hard. I've heard some estheticians can remove them, but I had my dermatologist remove some of them for me. Unfortunately, since my late 40s, they keep cropping up. Sometimes patients try to remove them on their own, but I don't think that's wise.

The dermatologist also said that Differin and Retin-A Micro do the same thing as Retin-A, but with less irritation.

I am 51 and I use just plain old baking soda once or twice a week. Just mix it in the palm of your hand with enough water droplets to make a thin paste and use that to "buff" the dead skin and debris off of your face, hands, elbows, neck, etc. It works great, leaves your skin soft and smooth as a baby's bottom and just about everyone had a box in their kitchen. Plus at about a buck a box, what a quick and easy "microderm abrasion."
That's a great idea, thanks - Gonna try it! no message

food-grade organic coconut oil - it's the bomb

absorbs beautifully into the skin without being oily. I use it on my body as well as my face.

Best thing I have ever used on my skin. My face is even oily and I can use it on my face, no problem. Best stuff you can buy! No perfume, no preservatives, bought a huge jug at Costco.

What Are Some Of Your Favorite Hair/skin/makeup Products?Mar 20, 2012
Right now I am really loving Renpure's hair products.  I've been using their shampoo and conditioner (and have gotten 3 compliments on the health of my hair), but only just recently tried their Argan oil treatment.  LOVE. As far as daily defrizzer:  I've long been a fan of Paul Mitchell's (smells ever so slightly of green apple), but after many years my bottle finally ran out.  I'd seen a promo of Bumble  and Bumble's defrizz tx in Oprah ...

Okay Ladies, What Kind Of Skin Care Regimen Do You Use?Sep 29, 2011
I looking for a new skin care regimen.  I'm 44 and have a round, chubby face which I used to hate, but now realize it has prevented me from getting a lot of wrinkles.  I have a few fine lines around my eyes and those parentheses around my mouth, if you know what I mean.  I'm looking for something to prevent future wrinkles and to work on what I have.  I have freckles and have sun damaged my skin when I was younger, so my skin is blotchy without makeup. Men And Bath ProductsDec 16, 2010
I was just in our main bathroom upstairs and the shower curtain was pulled open.  There are three guys that use that bathroom, my sons age 17 and 20 and one of their friends who is staying with us age 21.  I counted 9 bottles of product in the bathtub.  I could use a set of shelves in there for them to keep all their shampoo, conditioners, body wash, etc.  That does not even count the products around the sink and in the medicine cabinet for out of the shower.  I think me ...

Has Anyone Tried Any Of The AZO Products, Specifically Go Less?Jul 26, 2017
I have been having a problem with frequent urination. In the past, I would have frequency a couple of days leading up to and a couple of days during my period and then it would go away. Everything would return to normal. Now I’m perimenopausal and haven’t had a period in several months; however, I have been having frequency all of the time. I’m not sure if it is a side effect of menopause or not, but it is driving me crazy and it’s starting to affect my sleep. I have to get up three ...

Anyone Use Jane Iredale Products?Jul 14, 2011
I need some new makeup and my aesthetician is going to start carrying this brand exclusively.  Has anyone here tried it?  It's natural and supposedly all mineral-based but I'm wondering if it's worth the price (it's quite a bit more costly than even Bare Minerals, which in my opinion is getting pretty steep).  Before investing in it, I thought I'd see if any of the ladies here had any first-hand experience with it.  I have sensitive skin and get sebor ...

One For The LadiesApr 04, 2012
One for the ladies One day my housework-challenged husband decided to wash his Sweatshirt. Seconds after he stepped into the laundry room, he shouted to me, "What setting do I use on the washing machine?" "It depends," I replied. "What does it say on your shirt?" He yelled back, "University of Oklahoma." And they say blondes are dumb... A couple is lying in bed. The man says, "I am going to make you the happiest woman in the world." The woman replies, "I'll miss you..." "It's j ...

LADIESMar 01, 2010
So, I was watching a television show.  I guess it's become the new "thing" for older women to prey on younger men, and the younger men to look for "cougars".  Wondering, how young would you go?  One of the women on the show was 54 (she looked really good, but had a lot of work done...) and regularly dated men in their 20s!  That to me is way to young.  My feeling is, if you're old enough to be a mom or grandmother, best to stick to your age "box".   ...

Question For The Ladies Regarding PMSFeb 11, 2013
I just have a question.  I just turned 38 years old.  In the past, with my menstrual cycle, I never had "PMS" symptoms, never had cramps or cravings or "attitude" or anything.  I have noticed within the past year that I have become INCREDIBLY cranky just before my menstrual cycle.  I have noted that within the past few months, it is BEYOND cranky.  Sometimes, I am just so aggravated that I seriously feel like I have so much built in anger that I want to punch a wall! &nb ...

Some good common sense and an irate reaction to Trump here, so probably this might be only for those of us who do not like Donald Trump - definitely a liberal cast to this blog, but what the heck I have to skim through those diatribes from the Heritage Foundation and that awful Judge Jeanine, so about time to spread a bit of progressive wealth of knowledge. I have not put the entire post - bear in mind the beginning is very good and will make you laugh out loud, so please read if you are so inc ...

Ah, Love Is In The Air But Ladies, Did You EverFeb 12, 2016

I started an on the job affair with a guy, eventually leaving the marriage because the new love was hot, hot, hot! The on the job affair lasted for a year or more, even years later we reconnected for a short period. Fond memories. ...

So....what Did You Ladies Think Of Magic Mike?Jul 06, 2012
I thought the language was a little much....I mean, come on, nobody cusses and uses the F word that much, do they?  Aside from that, I thought the story was cute, and the dancing was pretty hot.  I have never been to a male strip tease show, but I am told that men make more at it than women. It's funny because all of the women in our family, and large circle of friends, went together.  It is really not a good movie for men (even if they were gay).  None of the men, of c ...

Skin IssuesFeb 23, 2011
Well, we're all pretty much feeling the economic squeeze and I'very decided I need to find a more economical line of skin care products (I have sensitive skin and have been using Cetaphil cleanser with creme de la mer toner and the creme de la mer moisturizing cream for ages).  I don't know if its because my skin is just supersensitive or so used to these high-end toners and moisturizers that they just go haywire when I try something new and more economic.  I'd bee ...

Help With Skin Issue, PleaseJul 26, 2011
I've never had this before, but on my forehead and spreading to a small part of my cheek, near my mouth and on one side of my nose I've developed seborrheic keratosis.  My PCP told me to use a very mild cleanser and hydrocortisone cream x3 daily, but it really doesn't seem to be helping much.  The spots get warm to the touch and itchy and are really getting more and more difficult to cover when I have to go out.
