thumb rings on ladies over 25

Posted: Feb 7, 2012

and earrings on older men (some rare exclusions) embarassing and gross.  True or false.

;

False! I'm 62 and have always had at least 1 thumb - ring, sometimes multiple. (sm)

Why on earth would it matter which finger a person wears a ring on, other than a wedding ring? Why would their age matter?

Same with earrings on men. Regardless of age, some look great, some don't. It just depends on their personal style and what type of earring they choose.

I know some people (both men and women) that dress really outlandishly. But it's their personal style. And they all happen to be wonderful, intelligent people.

So I've got to question the statement that a thumb ring on a woman/earring on a man over 25 is "embarrassing & gross".

thumb rings and men with earrings - M

[ In Reply To ..]
Not gross at all. I love rings. I'm not crazy about seeing men with an earring in each ear with very few exceptions. Some, like Katt Williams, can pull it off, but I just don't like 2 earrings on a guy. One is okay just depending on the guy.

I wear my husbands wedding ring on my thumb - when he is at work

[ In Reply To ..]
Does not look gross! I dont want it lost and it fits there, so why not. He cannot wear it at work because he is a mechanic.

I would wear a thumb ring but I have big - knuckles so I think it

[ In Reply To ..]
would be uncomfortable. I'm 47 and just got a toe ring last summer - my 77yo mom gave it to me! It took some getting used to, though.

My hubby used to wear an earring but gave it up when he entered the professional world after college. But I know that inner rebel is still in there :-)

I have no problem with thumb rings if they look - sm - XXX

good. I have a friend that wears them (she is about 42), look great on her. She is short, tanned and very fit. I would like to wear a thumb ring but don't think I can pull it off so I don't try. Older guys with earrings (well any guys pretty much) just look plain stupid to me, especially hoop earrings or really big diamonds. There are few exceptions to this rule.

Of my many rings, my thumb rings are the most - comfortable of all. -(sm)

They're the ones I never have to take off when typing, as they stay put and don't interfere, like those on my "ring fingers" do.

As an aside, where do those of you who think thumb rings are somehow "odd" or "offbeat", etc., live? In CA many people have them. (We have toe rings, too). Are rings on "non-traditional" fingers (or toes) considered in bad taste in other parts of the country?

Just wondering, because this is the first time I've EVER heard anyone say that only youngsters can wear rings on their thumbs! LOL !!!

I dont like tattooes or thumb rings on the elderly. To me it looks like a pathetic attempt to stay "hip." That is simply my personal opinion. I do not comment when i see one.

tattooes they got when they were "young?" Just for the record, I'm 52, don't have a tattoo, don't wear a thumb ring, keep my hair a shorter length and all the other things us "elderly" people should/shouldn't do, lol.
So are we supposed to remove our tats when we get older? - Happy MT Robin

I have a tattoo that I got for my 42nd birthday. It's a symbol that has a lot of meaning to me and is not something that is "hip" or widely used.

I just find it odd that you comment about tattoos on the elderly. It's like it's okay to have them when we're younger, but as we age we should get rid of them.

It's just a ring. I'm 47 and have one. I also got my nose pierced when I was 44. I wear a small gold or silver stud, no rings/hoops. I also have multiple piercings in my ears; 4 on one, plus got the cartilage pierced on that ear when I was about 32, so 5 total in that ear, and 3 in the other.

I didn't know there was an age limit - If it makes the person feel good - whats next

[ In Reply To ..]
age limit on long hair. I say if someone wants to wear ear rings, ring for their fingers (no matter which finger) and no matter whether they are man or woman what is wrong with that. There is nothing embarrassing or gross about jewelry. Maybe you should look inside yourself and figure out why you thing this is embarrassing or gross.

Age limits and such - Mgc

I agree. If one likes jewelry and tattoos, that's fine with me. I don't have a tattoo because I don't like needles. I used to think they looked trashy, but I've changed about that, especially since my two daughters got them. :). It's amazing what one will accept when their own kids do it.

My hair is also shoulder length, and my mom and aunts are constantly bugging me about it, but I like it and so does my significant other, my friends, and my daughters. If my mom had her way, I'd have very short hair and what she and her sisters call a "fuzzy perm" that they believe is appropriate for anyone over 40.. lol.. And yes, they all have a "fuzzy perm." And they all look like deranged monkeys. LOL! I love my mom and aunts, though. They're crazy. Oh,, and the polyester pants suits.. gotta have one of them in every color, too, according to them. I just love it!

"Deranged monkeys!" LOL! (That made my day, obviously) - Lordy deliver me from the Fuzzy Perm!

Aging - Nik

[ In Reply To ..]
I am 37 years old, I wear thumb rings when they look good with my outfit, my nose is pierced, my navel is pierced, I STILL shop in the juniors department and I have at least 14 tattoos and at least six of them were gotten this past year. People don't typically believe my age and I run into former classmates all of the time who are my age and look 20 years older than me. I think we should stay young as long as we can/want, nothing at all wrong with that:)

I'm with you, Nik!! (s/m) - (Its not a bummer to be a boomer)

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm 62. Each thumb has a ring. Each ear has 3 piercings, plus an ear cuff or two. No tats, but a friend of mine (school teacher in her 40s) has the most beautiful tat I've ever seen - Jerry Garcia on her shoulder/bicep area. I roller skate. I street skate on inlines. My hair was waist length, just "shortened" it recently to mid-scapula level. It's still brown, with only a touch of gray underneath. Sometimes I highlight it with blonde. And sometimes I highlight with pink or purple, if I feel inclined to do so. I have 2 toe rings. I ride a boy's mountain bike. I drive at night with no problems. I hike alone. I go out at night, when I can, and have fun. People in the checkout line still call me "miss" sometimes, instead of "ma'am". I always shop in the Junior's department. The styles are cuter, more hip & up-to-date. The "matrons" department is just too dull and depressing. I like black, green, or dark blue nail polish. I don't wear eye makeup, except for a touch of mascara & liner (upper only) if I'm going out. I like the X-Games sports competitions. I listen to ALL genres of music (rap, too - it has its good moments). I'm shocked when I look at pictures of my old high school classmates as they appear now - they're all old, fat, and bald. How did that happen? I refuse to completely "grow up", or to "act my age", as some would like me to do. In the coming years my body will continue to age, but the kid inside is still going strong.

You go girl! - see message

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't know if you'll even see my message as it's been awhile since you posted, but I just had to tell you I'm proud of you. I'm 51. I tend to be a bit more conservative. I do have a toe ring I haven't worn in years, just cos I don't feel like wearing it. I'd wear thumb rings if I had one and it was pretty. I've got 3 piercings in 1 year and 2 in the other. I'm married to a conservative guy, but if I was single I would dye my hair back with streaks of pink and gray and I'd get a stud for my nose, but no other metal on my face. I'd never get a tattoo though for fear of hep c, plus when I die I don't want the mortician to be mortified at seeing a tattoo on a 98 year old woman all stretched out and not as pretty as the day I got it (yes I plan to live that long - so far so good) :-)

All I have to say is you are an inspiration to all of us. Do what makes you feel good and who cares what other people think. Grew up in a small town that if you wore slacks on a Sunday the whole town would know and boy would you get it from your grandma.

Times are changing.

Trigger ThumbJan 07, 2014
Is there any solution to trigger thumb besides surgery? Over the past month my thumb joint has been kind of "clunking," not never totally locking, and doesn't completely flex. It's slightly painful at times, but not too terribly. I thought maybe a thumb brace would help, but it doesn't. Any suggestions? ...

Painful Thumb And WristDec 12, 2011
About five weeks ago I was cleaning my chairs and sofa with a small Bissel cleaner, and really overdid it.  I have been diagnsed with de Quervain's tenosynovitis of the right wrist.   I tried anti-inflammatory medication which only worked for a day, then back to bad pain again.   My doctor started me on a course of prednisone, which I took for ten days to no avail.   I am scheduled for an appointment with a hand specialist.  I know they sometimes do s ...

Know What Stands Out Like A Sore Thumb? SmSep 04, 2012
At the RNC the audience was predominantly white (as in I only saw like 3 black folks the whole time), very uptight, filled with suits, speeches had angry undertones, and of course there was the nut throwing incident as well as the physical assault. Now I know it's early, but thus far at the DNC I see a completely diverse group of folks who seem to be happy and excited. I detect no tension. On top of this is the involvement and inclusion of REGULAR PEOPLE in this event including local eve ...

Harry Reid Stars In Lord Of The RingsFeb 05, 2010
The transcripts for the Ed Show aren't up yet or I'd be able to credit this to the comedienne who came up with it. Apologies for that, but it was too funny not to share: If Harry Reid was the protagonist in Lord of the Rings, it would not be 3 books long. It would be a pamphlet: Strider: Here come the orcs. Reid: Oh. Give them the ring. -------- Pelosi has it all over Reid. Her courage puts Reid to shame. The good news is that Obama told the dems he'll give bipartisanshi ...

One For The LadiesApr 04, 2012
One for the ladies One day my housework-challenged husband decided to wash his Sweatshirt. Seconds after he stepped into the laundry room, he shouted to me, "What setting do I use on the washing machine?" "It depends," I replied. "What does it say on your shirt?" He yelled back, "University of Oklahoma." And they say blondes are dumb... A couple is lying in bed. The man says, "I am going to make you the happiest woman in the world." The woman replies, "I'll miss you..." "It's j ...

LADIESMar 01, 2010
So, I was watching a television show.  I guess it's become the new "thing" for older women to prey on younger men, and the younger men to look for "cougars".  Wondering, how young would you go?  One of the women on the show was 54 (she looked really good, but had a lot of work done...) and regularly dated men in their 20s!  That to me is way to young.  My feeling is, if you're old enough to be a mom or grandmother, best to stick to your age "box".   ...

Question For The Ladies Regarding PMSFeb 11, 2013
I just have a question.  I just turned 38 years old.  In the past, with my menstrual cycle, I never had "PMS" symptoms, never had cramps or cravings or "attitude" or anything.  I have noticed within the past year that I have become INCREDIBLY cranky just before my menstrual cycle.  I have noted that within the past few months, it is BEYOND cranky.  Sometimes, I am just so aggravated that I seriously feel like I have so much built in anger that I want to punch a wall! &nb ...

I thought the language was a little much....I mean, come on, nobody cusses and uses the F word that much, do they?  Aside from that, I thought the story was cute, and the dancing was pretty hot.  I have never been to a male strip tease show, but I am told that men make more at it than women. It's funny because all of the women in our family, and large circle of friends, went together.  It is really not a good movie for men (even if they were gay).  None of the men, of c ...
