wedding day.

1) Do you still have it?
I passed it onto my DD on her wedding day.

2) Are the pages yellowed and stained like mine?
Not only are they stained and yellowed, I have notes written in the margin, flour sticking to the pages, and my old favorites written in the back note pages.

3) What's the name of it?
The Family Cookbook (I think)

4) Do you still use it most of the time?
Nope. My DD does use it, though.

5) Have you added more to your collection over the years?
I have an obscene amount of cookbooks. I love them, I'm addicted, and I'm always looking for another.

My first is "Better Homes" - I still have it. (era 1977)

I learned to cook from Alpiner's "Betty Crocker" cookbook, era 1950's. She found a copy at a garage sale and brought it to me on a visit. I use that one the most! Yes, flour stuck between the pages! LOL!

Fanny Farmer is another favorite.

I really can't remember. - cooking from scratch

I can, however, remember when I first started learning to cook. We lived with my Italian grandmother. I have a very clear recollection of her lifting me up to stand on a chair so I could watch her make pasta at the kitchen table. She showed me how to make the well in the middle of the flour, break in the eggs, and let me try to mix it in. I also had a little bit of the dough to work with myself and we put it through the machine and cooked it together. She even cooked mine separately so that I could eat it myself. I remember my cousins and family cheering "Brava!" when I twirled it on my fork. I was about 3 and still sat in a high chair to eat, because I couldn't reach the table when I sat in a chair. I'm nearly 50, so I've been cooking for a long time. I have a collection of cookbooks and recipes written down on cards, but I go to them for ideas but usually stray from the exact recipes in some way. I've started to measure things out and write things down for my sons, who are pretty decent cooks but not as creative or comfortable as I am when it comes to just winging it. When they move out, hopefully, the hand-written recipes I give them will be their first cookbooks.

My 1st cook book is very old and I still use it, - yes

it is yellow and faded and I glued the pages with Tixo, several times.
I wrote in it little hints and reminders!

I have almost 20 cook books and I am a very good cook, international cuisine, and I love to cook!

1. Absolutely, bought it in 1973.
2. Yellowed and stained, falling apart into two pieces.
3. The Doubleday Cookbook
4. Absolutely, at least twice a weej
5. I do not have many cook books, I learned to cook from my mother, a southern belle, and my grandma, who was a chef (German) but I use it when I want something different. I read in a cook book somewhere that many years ago women would write their recipes on the back of receipts and that is how we got the word. I do not know if that is true, but it is a nice way to look at it.

Cockroaches could have a smorgasboard on mine. - love to cook

Fanny Farmer, University Women's cookbooks, and Betty Crocker. Never added more, I just write new recipes on the borders of the pages.

How Do You Cook Your Hamburgers?Dec 19, 2011
Today I was cleaning my George Foreman grill (I always wiped the plates after using, but today it got a good cleaning.  It needed it!  Boy what a greasy mess.), and the nonstick coating is flaking off after only about 25 uses.  How disappointing!  I never used metal or harsh anything or metal scrubbers on it.  Because it didn't last long I've decided NOT to replace it. So how do you cook your burgers indoors?  I have a water grill pan but have never ...

Does Anyone Cook With Seaweed? - Have A Question (or Two)Nov 15, 2011
I've been researching eating better for hypothyroidism and read seaweed is very good.  Learned all my favorite veggies (brocolio, cauliflower, cabbage, brussel sprounts and spinach) -   Anyway....I read seaweed is very good, which is good because I love seaweed soup when I've had it at the restaurant.  So my questions are this: 1.  Does seaweed expire.  I bought some maybe a year or so ago.  The dulse is kind of dry, but figure if it was going into a soup ...

How Many Times A Week Do You Cook Dinner?Oct 16, 2011
I was just wondering if people cook dinner every day of the week anymore?  When I was a kid, my mom made dinner every night except for Fridays which was "eat out" night.  Course mom was a full time mom and housewife.  Today's women generally work FT and are trying to do it all. I've been feeling guilty because I don't cook as often as I used to.  One of my daughter's friends asked me why I never cook dinner!  I do cook dinner, just not as much as mos ...

I got a Panini sandwich maker and it is so much more than that. Today for lunch I cut up some vegetables, squash, onion, zucchini, tossed with a little olive oil, a touch of salt and tossed that on the Panini. I love grilled anything and I am so happy to finally find a way, being as I have no outside grill, to get the taste of food that I enjoy. Self patting my back! ...

was wondering if anyone else has read and what they thought.  Heresy or enlightening?  For a while now, I've been looking for a deeper, more personal relationship with God, but haven't been able to find it.  I hear testimony from fellow Christians about this wonderful relationship they have with God.  How they talk to Him and they can feel His presence and He responds maybe not verbally, but they "hear" Him.  So a friend, who isn't a churchgoer but spiri ...

A Book Every MT Should ReadJun 09, 2013
Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich. Since so many of us, of course, can no longer afford to buy luxuries like books, it's worth mentioning that your public library almost certainly will have it (though there's likely to be a waiting list, even though it was first published in 2001). For those who persist in blaming others here on MTStars who are struggling with our new working-poor reality, saying that the problem is their "attitude," another Ehrenreich book, Bright-Sided, also w ...

Obama Has The Book Thrown At HimOct 11, 2010
This is the astonishing moment a book was apparently hurled at the head of President Barack Obama during a campaign rally in Philadelphia. The flying missile narrowly missed hitting the President yesterday. It is not clear what the book was, where it came from in the crowd, or why it was thrown at Mr Obama - who did not appear to notice the danger. Duck, Mr President! A book narrowly misses Barack Obama's head after it is thrown on stage during a rally in Philadelphia today ...

Appalled At Book In B&N And Its PlacementJun 27, 2011
I am not a goody two shoes or a puritan, but  a Barnes & Noble I was in this weekend has the new book "Go the F to Sleep" at the very bottom of the escalator on a shelf so that when children are leaving the upstairs children's section, it is at eye level for them to see. I glanced through the book, was completely disgusted by it, asked for a manager, made my complaint and handed him the 7 books in my arms to him and asked him to please re-shelve them as I would spend my money elsew ...
