Can anyone recommend a good book

Posted: Jan 14, 2011

I just got a Nook and I have no idea what to read.  I got into the Janet Evanovich "Stephanie Plum Series" which I thought were so funny, but now I am lost...

Any suggestions?

In no particular order:

Lonesome Dove
The Stand

Life of Pi

I love mysteries and even more so medical mysteries - cindy

I love all the books by Tess Gerritsen. I also like books by Robin Cook and Michael Palmer. If you want mystery without the medical, Stephen King, Deen Koontz and James Patterson are great.

I also really like Danielle Steele, not exactly sure of her genre but they are very heart warming book.

Enjoy reading!

Sue Grafton Books - Shelly

If you liked the Stephanie Plum books (which I do), Sue Grafton's books are similar. They start with A for Alibi and then go down the alphabet.

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon - mb

I love Jamie and Claire!

"The Road" and "All the Pretty Horses" by Cormac McCarthy and "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" by Carson McCullers. I also enjoy James Patterson books for a quick fun read. I liked, "As I Lay Dieing" by William Faulkner. I can't really think of others, but I know there are a ton of books that I have read and loved.

My first - shoo-shoo

was The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Well, actually, I don't use e-books, but I use audio books from Audible.com and it was my first download. After over a year and over 50 books, it still is my favorite "feel good" book.

If you want intrigue and action, look into the Vince Flynn novels. Those are awesome books too.

Can Anyone Recommend A Good Shoe?Aug 29, 2015
I have plantar fasciitis as well as extremely dry skin on my feet. I need to apply lotion to my feet daily and wear socks at all times when up and about in order to prevent cracking of the plantar aspects. I bought some arch supports from the Good Feet store several years ago, but they did not help me whatsoever. I was looking at SAS shoes, but they are so expensive. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to manufacturer and type of shoe? It seems I do best with a soft supportive insole ...

Can Someone Recommend A Small Multivitamin Pill?Oct 12, 2009
The last 3 multivites I have tried are too big and I have a really hard time swallowing them.  Splitting the pill causes it to get caught up in the throat.  Whatever happened to those small One-A-Days?  The chewable kind are almost double the cost of tablets.  Any suggestions?  ...

I Highly Recommend Duolingo WebsiteMar 15, 2014
Stressed out and surfing the web?  I found out about a website called Duolingo, where you can take a language course - I'm learning French, started Spanish also.  It is wonderful to take your mind off your problems, and maybe is a "dementia preventative" like crossword puzzles are supposed to be. So at the end of the day (month, year), instead of just surfing the web, reading political websites, etc, you actually have something to show for it:  You know some French, can read ...

The Shack -- I'm Almost All The Way Through This Book AndJul 14, 2010
was wondering if anyone else has read and what they thought.  Heresy or enlightening?  For a while now, I've been looking for a deeper, more personal relationship with God, but haven't been able to find it.  I hear testimony from fellow Christians about this wonderful relationship they have with God.  How they talk to Him and they can feel His presence and He responds maybe not verbally, but they "hear" Him.  So a friend, who isn't a churchgoer but spiri ...

A Book Every MT Should ReadJun 09, 2013
Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich. Since so many of us, of course, can no longer afford to buy luxuries like books, it's worth mentioning that your public library almost certainly will have it (though there's likely to be a waiting list, even though it was first published in 2001). For those who persist in blaming others here on MTStars who are struggling with our new working-poor reality, saying that the problem is their "attitude," another Ehrenreich book, Bright-Sided, also w ...

Obama Has The Book Thrown At HimOct 11, 2010
This is the astonishing moment a book was apparently hurled at the head of President Barack Obama during a campaign rally in Philadelphia. The flying missile narrowly missed hitting the President yesterday. It is not clear what the book was, where it came from in the crowd, or why it was thrown at Mr Obama - who did not appear to notice the danger. Duck, Mr President! A book narrowly misses Barack Obama's head after it is thrown on stage during a rally in Philadelphia today ...

Appalled At Book In B&N And Its PlacementJun 27, 2011
I am not a goody two shoes or a puritan, but  a Barnes & Noble I was in this weekend has the new book "Go the F to Sleep" at the very bottom of the escalator on a shelf so that when children are leaving the upstairs children's section, it is at eye level for them to see. I glanced through the book, was completely disgusted by it, asked for a manager, made my complaint and handed him the 7 books in my arms to him and asked him to please re-shelve them as I would spend my money elsew ...

America's Book Of SecretsJun 14, 2014
I'm just venting on this subject. I've seen this episode a few times but I always like to be reminded of the protocol and procedures.I do wish people (not just people on this board) would watch America's Book of Secrets...there is one episode from 2010 that explained what happens with the essential government officials and what to do in case of an attack by our enemies. I've seen so many people put Bush and Cheney down for "hiding" during 911. Book Choices For Twilight Fans?Jan 14, 2011

Book Review - Game ChangeFeb 10, 2010
Finally got my hands on a copy of Game Change. I am really enjoying the behind the scenes look at the last pres campaign.  All of the candidates are presented as real human beings - flaws and all.  Interesting look at conflict between Biden and Obama, the whole Edwards fiasco and Hill and Bill. And, if you are troubled by Palin's inadequacies now, you will not be comforted by reading this book.   ...
