Stocking ideas......

Posted: Dec 20, 2010

Just wondering what everyone uses as stocking stuffers besides the usual fruits and nuts.  I read another post under the DH/SO post about the sweet gifts in a stocking so just thought we could share some tips too.

I usually just fill ours with the usual:  Fruits, nuts, chocolates, batteries to accompany gifts, candies.  My 18-yo informed me that bobby pins would make great stocking stuffers so I might add that this year!

I also am thinking of playing a trick on my kiddos, ranging from 11 to 18, 4 of them.  This year has been a very rough year for us all and so I've threatened them with the usual, no Santa is going to visit us.  So I'm thinking of doing a scavenger hunt.  I am only going to put out their stockings on Christmas morning. In the stockings, I will have notes sending them on a wild goose chase to locate their gifts all throughout our property!

I try to do stuff that is useful to that person, i.e., my 21-year-old I put in makeup, perfume, deodorant, shampoo, something along those lines.

My hubby is a hunting/fishin fanatic, so I put a hunting magazine, his favorite snack of goldfish, deodorant, body wash, cologne, fishing lures, line, ect.

I also do this for easter baskets.

This is going to sound strange, but.... - Kendra

I always get nice jewelry in my stocking. One piece every year since I have been old enough to get nice jewelry. My dad started it and apparently informed my husband, who has kept up the tradition. I usually do just the normal stocking stuff, but I secretly look forward to my stocking every year. I know that Christmas is about giving, not getting, but I do enjoy getting the sparkly stuff! :D

Not strange, my mom always put 1 good gift in my - stocking which

was also jewelry. Stockings always came first, and that started the excitement of my presents. Now for my kids, I try to find things small enough to fit in their stocking that is something that they really like to play with, not just the regular candy and normal stocking stuffers.

I am like you. I could not wait to see what little extra my mom had put in my stocking, definitely one of the most exciting parts.

There is usually a small jewelry box in the bottom of my stocking each year - i look forward to that - kind of like the icing on the cake!

This year - for my 16 yo girl i got her nail files that have bling on them, diva coasters that fit in the console of her car, little bottles of lotions, bubble bath, etc. For my husband, I also got him some deer hunter coasters for his truck console, a CD of his favorite music. My 9 yo boy has small toys and candy in his plus playing cards. I also get them all specialized ornaments that remind me of them and put in their stockings. Those go on the tree the next year. When the kids are old enough to leave the house, their ornaments go with them! When starting out on their own, they won't have to worry about spending money on decorating their tree.

I save the left over scraps of gift wrap and wrap all the stocking stuffers. Nothing fancy, no ribbons/bows just wrap and tape them. My kids always wanted to open their stockings first on Christmas before any presents. They loved unwrapping all the little things in their stockings. They still do it now and they are adults with their own families.

My kids get various things--nail polish, earrings, - sm

movies, etc. This year they are each getting 3 pairs of fuzzy warm socks since all their socks lose a mate throughout the year.

If it'll fit, it goes in - SM

Through the years-

Candy and gum.
Snack size things- crackers, Slim Jims.
Snack pack size cookies.
Jewelry
Hair doodads
Grooming aids
Flash drive
Gift cards for places they love (even if just $5- Starbucks, fast food, etc).

As I said, if I could get it in there and I was too lazy to be bothered with wrapping it, in the stocking it went.

I'm with you on this one - if it fits in a stocking, sock it. - anon

like this gift the most of all their Christmas gifts big and small. Its like a frenzy of little scratch-off gray dirt flying and littering the coffee table and kitchen table! Love it!

PS: They each get a quarter in their stocking too to scratch with!
