Putting non-relative on your car insurance for a

Posted: Jun 26, 2015

Will be visiting my friend soon in another state. I wanted to rent a car but found the cost was much more than I had hoped. I have car insurance, they have car insurance. I called my insurance company yesterday. If I rented a car I would be covered but does not cover me driving another person's car. This is the situation: We wanted to travel to another city in the state and the friend does not want to drive. I on the other hand would be willing to drive. Has anyone ever put another person on your coverage for a short period of time and how easy would that be to do? ;

Car insurance - Check again

It does not make sense that your policy covers a rental but not driving someone else's car. My insurance covers me regardless of what I am driving, i.e., service loaners, family members' cars, etc. Have your friend find out if their insurance covers you. I doubt if anyone will add you to another person's coverage short term. Read your policy, my guess is that you have coverage through your current plan, it's pretty standard.

Thanks for the information about coverage - on my end,

I will look at the coverage on Monday.

Glad I took you advice and checked again. - You were right

Found Saturday number and sure enough, I am fully covered driving anyone's car as well as rentals. Glad I asked here.

Do You Have A RelativeDec 17, 2013
I bet you do, and you know, with the holidays, you're sure to have to deal with this!  My sister-in-law thinks any subject is fair game for discussion.  Husband's bowel movements, their sex life, their children's sex lives (in morbid detail), my mother's breast lumps (discussed with my husband; why?), pelvic exams, nothing is off limits...did you see We're the Millers?  The woman explaining how she found out she has a shallow vagina?  That's ...

Sorry, But If The FBI Putting Out False StoriesNov 04, 2016
Was supposed to make me want to go over to the dark side (Trump), then that sure backfired for me at least. What? A bunch of old FBI guys hate Hillary (big surprise) and they are trying to screw with the election by feeding garbage nonsense to that eternally spewing idiot Giuliani (and other idiots like Rupert Murdoch, Fox News)? I can tell you this makes me even more determined to vote for Hillary. With all this talk of such corruption that all you Trumpies seem to think is going on, what th ...

Period Shamed? Not This Person. Putting ItAug 10, 2015
Just read about a woman who was to run the London marathon. The night before she started her period. She thought she could either wear a tampon or go without, to do so because she claims there is "period shaming." She went without. She said also did it for all the women around the world who do not have the products when they have their period and also she thinks some do not talk about it because of shame. I saw a picture of her after the race with her blood soaked pants. I have no idea what othe ...

Obama’s Temper Tantrum Putting American Lives at Risk” by Donna Garner 3.23.13    Obama’s temper tantrum is putting Americans’ lives at Risk.  Because he is furious that the Republicans did not back down when he tried to bully them into caving on sequestration, he is determined to make sure the federal agency cuts are in the places that will be most noticeable and hurtful to the public. Car InsuranceApr 21, 2010
Anyone else out there with a son who is under 25 that has been added to your car insurance?  After dealing with our car insurance when our son got his driver's license, I was so aggravated that it cost more "because he is a boy".  I am sorry, but I just don't buy that line.  It is discrimination, plain and simple.  I know they can quote "facts" that boys have more accidents than girls, but that is simply lumping all boys together.  My son waited until he was 19 ...

My Argument With My InsuranceNov 11, 2009
The other day, I got a bill for an ambulance.  I got charged the entire $700+ dollars.  Don't get me wrong - those paramedics were fantastic.  I was having severe chest pain and within seconds, they had an IV inserted, my BP checked, nitro sprayed into my mouth and 1 mg of morphine plus some atrophine in my IV and a nasal cannula. However, I'm being billed the entire amount because the ambulance company is "out of network.".  This will not do.  I dealt with in ...

Insurance Companies At It Again! Feb 12, 2010
Dear MoveOn member, Blue Cross has just announced that it's immediately raising premiums charged to hundreds of thousands of individual customers by as much as 39%—even though their parent company's profits soared to a record $4.7 billion last year.1 Even worse, the insurer has so far refused to explain why they're increasing their rates, and warned that they might do so again this year without warning. So My Insurance Won't Change?Oct 05, 2013
This morning I attended a meeting at the hospital where I work regarding our 2014 benefits.  Yes, I have insurance through my employer, and yes, I am happy with it, but imagine my surprise when I found out how much the cost of my coverage will increase for 2014 because we are self insured and our hospital was levied a fee of 1,000,000 dollars (yup, one million dollars) for fiscal 2014 to help fund the exchanges.  Of course, guess who pays that?  Yes, all of employees.  so tha ...

An MT Insurance Story...Jan 22, 2014
I had insurance through my MT job but never filed a claim as I am relatively healthy and never met the deductible.  I didn't have a colonoscopy until I was 55 or a mammogram until I was 56, my own fault, but my income had taken a nosedive and preventative care was the least of my worries.  I was just lucky that both turned out OK.  I lost my insurance when I was diagnosed with RA and couldn't maintain full time status or production, pretty close though.  Because of ...

No Health Insurance? Read This!Jan 12, 2012
For the past year and a half I have been sans health insurance.  Fortunately, I only have a couple of prescriptions that I take on an intermittent basis, and even those are generics.  Walgreen's has a "Savings Club" for those without insurance.  Normally enrollment costs $15 for a year, but this month only they have reduced it to $5 so I signed up. The club saved me $2 on today's Rx (meaning that the net enrollment cost for me was $3), and ...
