Since the American president is indeed President Obama, elected not just once, but twice, by American citizens. That's how we choose our presidents. I had no problem calling President Bush or any of our former presidents MY president, because I am an American citizen.

By the way, you do have the option of renouncing your American citizenship and becoming a non-citizen in order to renounce President Obama as being your president. Thing is, then, unless you want to be considered an illegal immigrant, you would need to either leave the country or apply for a worker's or student's visa, but I digress.

The President was celebrating getting one back from these horrible wars and horrible circumstances, celebrating as a parent with other parents.

Some of you seem to think that either this would never happen to you as a parent, or that you know exactly how it would feel to have a child who could not deal with war, to have a child who is gay, and you would know exactly the rights and wrongs and how to disavow or embrace that child. I don't think it's easy.

I do not have a child who went to war or a child who is gay, but as a parent I have immense sympathy and compassion for other parents who do and I know that no matter what my child was accused of, to have him back home would be a cause for celebration.

Haven't we had enough hearing about those getting murdered by ISIS and all the deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan. To be a soldier nowadays means you are asked to do unspeakable things and take huge risks in countries where you have not a lot of clues what you are fighting for, so I do blame our hawk politicians too. If they had their young offspring over there they might stop being so war happy.

No matter what becomes of this issue, I am glad his homecoming was celebrated, even for a brief moment, because as a parent that is all you ask.

Unless I were a parent whose child had been killed as a soldier, unless I were a parent whose child had deserted, unless I were a parent of a gay child, I really do NOT feel I am qualified to judge those who are parents of those individuals.

Commiseration, yes. Compassion, yes. Judgment, no. We still don't know all the facts and even if we did if I were his mom I would still take my son any way I could get him and support him through anything.

While I have no end of compassion for the parents of those soldiers who died, it is a little simplistic to place blame on Bergdahl.

The commander who ordered them to find him, I hear nothing from him/her? If they truly thought he had deserted and no one liked him much and thought he was weird for wanting to find out more about Afghanistan, well, why did they get sent out to find him? Hardly his fault, is it?

The fact is we don't know all the details so I do NOT think it is an either/or situation here as far as who died and who lived.

As one of the soldiers in the Newsweek article said:

"Baggett says he doesn't think the death of the two soldiers, or anybody else, can be directly linked to the search. Even if Bergdahl had not walked off, the battalion still could have taken casualties during its 12-month tour of Afghanistan, he says.

But then you can whine about it if something bad happens? I don't think so. Never heard that one.

I get that some of the parents said that Bergdahl should face a firing squad, that's their right when they've lost their son, but if his fellow soldiers are blaming him well maybe they should have had the right to refuse to pull him out - sounds like many had the guy convicted as soon as he walked off his post. Maybe they did have that right of refusal, but instead they did the noble thing anyway and lost their lives.

It doesn't diminish their bravery as soldiers at all.
