The new October employment figures

Posted: Nov 5, 2010

U.S. employment increased more than expected last month as private companies hired workers at the fastest pace since April, offering more signs of an up-tick in a sluggish economy.

Employment in October was supported by the private service-providing employment, which jumped 154,000. Temporary help services, a harbinger of permanent hiring, increased 34,900 from 23,800 in September.

2010 has had more private job creation than during the entire 8 year tenure of George W. Bush.

The average work week increased to 34.3 hours from 34.2 hours in September.

Overall government employment dipped 8,000.

I will get excited with something consistent happens. - Unfortunately, this is probably temporary

Obama's horrible policies and extension of tremendous debt have only delayed our recovery, in my opinion. I wish he would have stepped aside and let someone who has actually run ANY successful business run the show. He is clueless as to what to do. In my state, there are still very very few jobs offered.

Does 12 months of increase in health care - meet your exacting criteria?

[ In Reply To ..]
Health care continued to add jobs in October (+24,000). The gain was
in line with the average increase over the prior 12 months (+20,000).

So what? You think that is the only thing? MT jobs - are going away! nm

"Health Care continued to add jobs in October".

Sure, but what where they? CNAs, LPNs, RNs, HIMs, medical assistants, research assistants, etc.  Home care services are booming and hiring and those generally require CNAs or LPNs.

They aren't scrambling for MTs unless you want to work for a national.

They probably are CNA's, etc - MTs are like 8-track tapes

Not old enough to have antique value, but still obsolete. Sorry to say. Get to school for EMR, or whatever. If you have been laid off, take advantage of the nice Obama retraining program.

Not sure I agree with those figures.... - sam

This is what I find:

â€Â¢2003: 87,000 jobs created
â€Â¢2004: 2.5 million jobs created
â€Â¢2005: 2.1 million jobs created
â€Â¢Total by 2007: 5.7 million jobs created
â€Â¢2009: 2.8 million jobs lost after Obama signed a stimulus bill that he said would create 3.5 million jobs.

Sorry, you must have made a - typo

Bush "created" 1.1 million jobs in 8 years. Obama's administration has created over 1.1 million this year. Do you really think you should blame Obama for the jobs lost the year after Bush's economic collapse?

He has lost even more.... no dice there. nm - GetReal

Yesterday, I looked at aggregate job-creation numbers, comparing presidents Bush and Obama. Today, I am looking at the number of private jobs created during President Bush’s eight years and comparing that with President Obama’s record, in order to test the accuracy of Florida congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s claim that President Obama is on track to create more jobs in 2010 than President Bush did in his entire eight years of office.

The chart below shows the monthly changes in private-sector jobs between January 2001 and January 2009:

jobcreation

I think this chart is stunning in a number of ways. Interestingly, if we leave out January 2009 from the calculation, President Bush’s net private-sector job creation is positive: 133,000 jobs. Also, this chart shows that during the Bush years, the country went through two recessions — I never realized how bad the first recession was until I looked at the data. In the first year and a half, 3.4 million jobs were lost.

Overall, during Bush’s eight years in office, 7.6 million jobs were created. As I mentioned yesterday, the net number is negative, mainly because of the overwhelming number of job losses during his last month in office. So far, under President Obama’s tenure, some 938,000 jobs have been created — after losing 3.2 million private jobs. And it could get worse. According to the front page of the New York Times today:

Or how about this from the CBO itself if it will make you feel better:

The unemployment rate in October 2010 was 9.6 percent. In August, CBO projected a slow rebound in employment, with the rate falling to just below 9 percent by the end of 2011, and then declining more rapidly to near its long-run sustainable level of 5 percent by the end of 2014.

(By the way--the stats are from the Department of Labor--not some hokey article.)

OK, lets not include Bush's last month in office, or his first year in office, because it isn't fair to blame him for the 9/11 attack and the subsequent war that he did not pay for, then let's take out the Katrina business and the financial and oil company deregulation and economic meltdown. Now lets add back in the credit for Clinton's surplus and Obama's raising the economy from the dead. Damn! That Bush was the greatest president ever. How did I ever miss that?
Guess you did see the bottom of my reply- It was from the CBO - Backwards Typist

The articles state the employment growth during GW's term and when employment growth will take place during Obama's term. If you just want to skip over the info, then no wonder you believe everything you hear.

Sorry, not meant to be a snide remark or trying to start trouble, but I believe this is the second time you made a comment to a post that had info but wasn't read by you.

Sorry, your figures are incorrect - it must be a typo

How bout some fact to back that up your numbers. Did you just pull them out of the air? It looks like that. You can say the grass is purple but it doesn't mean its true.

Sorry, but the monthly economic data is available and reviewed by anyone and everyone who is interested in the financial sectors. Here is one of my favorites. It has pretty pictures to look at. By the way, no REAL economics person would make decision based on the Washington Examiner or the national Review.

Don't trust the people who are at the crux of the problem.

Sorry, no go on the "I'll make sure the figures look good for you" website. I'll stick with independent sites. And they sure don't say what the poster I replied to was saying.
