Has anyone ever baked a cake in the slow cooker?

Posted: Dec 11, 2015

Our oven is broke and I don't have a toaster oven.  The only thing I have is a slow cooker, foreman grill and waffle maker (the latter two of course will not work). LOL

I am so craving some chocolate cake and I just found a recipe for mocha oatmeal cake, or brownies, cobbler or whatever.

I've made cornbread in the slow cooker and it came out really good, but what about regular cakes?  Has anyone ever done one and if so do you know how long you would cook it for.  There are tons of things on the internet but I'm not finding anything for a cake and wondered if anyone here has firsthand experience and if it works.

Thanks.

There are lots of slow cooker recipes for cakes - Fellow Chocolate Lover

Every now and then I get a bunch of recipes for slow cooked everything in my spam folder. I wish I could think of the name. But anyway, it is amazing the things that can be cooked in a slow cooker, including cakes, bread, and pies. If you do decide to bake a cake in your slow cooker, please let us know how it turned out.

I just hope it does not take too long to bake your cake.

Thanks - your post gave me some ideas - Baker Bee

I did some more searching and found some slow cooker cake recipes. One is for a chocolate cake. Now I'm searching around for a frosting that is I think made of whipped cream. Had this amazing frosting on a cake at our Christmas party. Was so light and airy. Unsure if it was whipped cream or what.

I guess if it takes so long to wait for the cake to bake I could always make a microwave mug cake to eat while waiting. LOL

Not precisely OT, but I do mug cakes because I'm - the only one not on a diet.

Innocently, one day after the DH and DD had gone berserk on one or another of the popular diets, I made a regular German chocolate cake, which they discovered as unerringly as a laser-guided smart bomb finds its target.

From their cake-stuffed, frosting-smeared faces came muffled curses which, if I understood them correctly, involved a rabid cat - or it may have been rat - becoming entangled in my bra. While I was wearing it.

Since then, I've made cake for one and I only have to suffer malevolent growls mingled with the crunching of carrot sticks.

Question Regarding A Slow Cooker Recipe I FoundDec 06, 2012
I found a recipe I'm going to post below, but I have a question on substuting something for something else.  It's Braised chicken with potatoes.  Looks yummy.  The recipe calls for frozen artichoke hearts (which I love artichokes), but as I was looking at it thought cabbage would taste good with it instead.  But it slow cooks for 2 hours.  Do you think that cabbage would go mushy?  I have not used my slow cooker in probably 5 years now, but I want to start ...

Any Fish-cooker-uppers Out There? HALP!Mar 05, 2010
Here's the deal. I'm a part-time Mr. Mom. My wife and I both work and we split the household chores down the middle even-steven. Cooking, cleaning, whatever. We each take care of laundering and ironing our own clothes, etc. (It's the way I was raised by working parents, if you think this is odd.) So, the way our schedule works out, I'm off work earlier and cook dinner most of the time. Nothing fazes me except FISH, and my wife doesn't do it any better, but we bot ...

The Perfect Baked PotatoDec 31, 2011
I was watching a cooking program on publlic TV and found out how to make the Perfect baked potato.  I tried it, and it IS perfect.  All you do is preheat the oven for as high as it goes - I use 540.  Wash the potato and cook it for 1 hour.  Do not prick, oil, or wrap in foil!  The skin is crunchy, and the middle soft and creamy.  Great if you want to scoop out the middle for twice-baked recipes, but I like it with browned melted butter, salt, and pepper.  ...

Atomic CakeMar 25, 2013
In the Chicago Area some bakeries made an atomic cake.  It had various fillers of your choice including fudge, banana, strawberry, vanilla custard, etc.  My family always had one of these cakes if there was a birthday.  Here in Florida no bakeries make an atomic cake.  I really miss it! Of course, while I'm thinking about it there is no other than a Chicago Pizza in Florida.  Pizza Hutt just doesn't cut it.     ...

OPINIONS ABOUT WEDDING CAKEJun 30, 2010
My 25 DD is getting married next June.   She does not want to have a receiving line after the mass which is a Catholic ceromony because she said it is awkard.   So intead she would like to have a receving line at the reception where the guests line up and the bride and groom pass out the cake and then thank people for coming. I am totally against this but she said that is the way it is these days. She has only been to two weddings in her life.   I have not been ...

Anyone Know How To Temper A Whiskey Cake That Is Jan 12, 2014
Tried a new whiskey fruitcake recipe, made a slight error by adding 2 cups of dried fruit instead of 1, so the cake came out really dry. Found a suggestion to poke holes in it with a skewer and pour whiskey over the cake so it would go into the cake; do this every day for a week. The texture is now good, but the taste--whoooo, baby! Even with whipped cream it is too strong. Would it be possible use the same hole-poking technique using a sweet fruit juice or something? Would hate to toss it now. ...

Anyone Have A Good Lemon Bread/cake RecipeDec 24, 2009
Okay, just made a lemon bread.  It is moist but not as lemony as I would like.  Safeway makes a good lemony cake (or bread) thing.  So moist and lemony and I'd like to make something similar.  This recipe I just made called for 3/4 c. lemon yogurt and 1 tablepoon lemon rind.  It is moist but not a real lemon flavor (faint lemon flavor).   I tried another recipe using a lemon cake and added a box of lemon pudding.  Again, most but not real lemony.   ...

Blueberry Sour Cream Coffee CakeApr 01, 2012

Bakers Refused To Make Pro-Trump Birthday Cake ForAug 08, 2017
A boy whose letter to President Trump made national headlines last month reportedly wanted a pro-Trump cake for his birthday party, but his mother was unable to find a baker willing to fulfill the order. When she later released the letter publicly, the boy’s last name was blacked out. The only identifying clue was that everyone ...
