Recipes for pressure cooker

Posted: Dec 7, 2011

I just bought a pressure cooker but the recipes that came with it are too gourmet. Can anyone recommend a good meat and potatoes cookbook for pressure cookers?  Looks like some good cooks on this Gab Board and I need all the help I can get.

I like "Miss Vickie's Big Book of Pressure Cooker Recipes", on sale right now at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Miss-Vickies-Pressure-Cooker-Recipes/dp/0764597264/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323357761&sr=8-1

She also has a website. You might want to check it out first. http://missvickie.com/

There are other good ones too, but hers is pretty comprehensive. I love my pressure cooker. Good luck! :)

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll order one today! My sister exploded an old pressure cooker once and I've been a bit shy about using one, but these new ones seem quite nice.

Absolutely love my pressure cooker. No gourmet recipes necessary. It pays for itself because even the cheapest cuts of beef, pork, and chicken become fork-tender and delicious. Add just about anything for seasoning--quartered potatoes, onions, carrots, seasoning like bouillon, garlic powder, plain old salt and pepper, maybe a splash of tomato juice for beef & pork cuts, lemon juice for chicken (even a splash of wine.) Corned beef & cabbage in a pressure cooker is delicious. Pressure cooker is a wise investment.

and don't forget the healthy and delish - beans and grains

cooks them super fast, but be careful to put in enough liquid so as not to scorch.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm excited about trying some new things now. I've ordered 2 cookbooks from Amazon and I'm heading to the store now for some cheap cuts of meat (if they still exist). I can't wait to try some of the dry bean recipes too.

Any Fish-cooker-uppers Out There? HALP!Mar 05, 2010
Here's the deal. I'm a part-time Mr. Mom. My wife and I both work and we split the household chores down the middle even-steven. Cooking, cleaning, whatever. We each take care of laundering and ironing our own clothes, etc. (It's the way I was raised by working parents, if you think this is odd.) So, the way our schedule works out, I'm off work earlier and cook dinner most of the time. Nothing fazes me except FISH, and my wife doesn't do it any better, but we bot ...

Has Anyone Ever Baked A Cake In The Slow Cooker?Dec 11, 2015
Our oven is broke and I don't have a toaster oven.  The only thing I have is a slow cooker, foreman grill and waffle maker (the latter two of course will not work). LOL I am so craving some chocolate cake and I just found a recipe for mocha oatmeal cake, or brownies, cobbler or whatever. I've made cornbread in the slow cooker and it came out really good, but what about regular cakes?  Has anyone ever done one and if so do you know how long you would cook it for.  There ...

Question Regarding A Slow Cooker Recipe I FoundDec 06, 2012
I found a recipe I'm going to post below, but I have a question on substuting something for something else.  It's Braised chicken with potatoes.  Looks yummy.  The recipe calls for frozen artichoke hearts (which I love artichokes), but as I was looking at it thought cabbage would taste good with it instead.  But it slow cooks for 2 hours.  Do you think that cabbage would go mushy?  I have not used my slow cooker in probably 5 years now, but I want to start ...

Blood Pressure And CTAFeb 10, 2014
I have diabetes and mild hypertension and take a low-dose medication that seems to control the BP very well (1-teens/60s) which I check in my left arm daily. At my routine doctor's appointment today, where my BP is usually higher than when at home, it was 148/68 (right), 120/65 (left). She always checks both arms. The doctor was concerned about the difference between arms, and has scheduled me for a CT angiogram on Wednesday. I was concerned, so when I got home, I checked using my machin ...

Magnesium And Blood PressureJul 02, 2014
I noticed doing HPs that a big percentage of seniors have magnesium deficiency and also a vitamin D deficiency so I started taking a mag supplement 500 qhs.  My blood pressure at that time was running around 145/90, not on any BP meds.  I hadn't been to the doc since starting to take it about a year ago, and just this past 2 weeks had 3 doctor's appts for different things.  My BP is down to 120-130/70-80.  I was trying to think what may have lowered it since I& ...

Barack Obama Raises Pressure On GhaddafiMar 08, 2011
As No-Fly Zone Gains Support. Sounds like Obama is getting his way.  Barack Obama stepped up pressure on Colonel Gaddafi, saying the US and Nato allies were considering a military response to violence inLibya, with the list of options including arming the rebels. Obama's remarks came as Britain and France made progress in drafting a resolution at the UN calling for a no-fly zone triggered by specific conditions, rather than timelines. Downing Street is hopeful that a resolution with ...

Also, any ideas on what I can eat it with besides corn chips or eggs?  I eat salsa and eggs every morning at breakfast, but trying to avoid the carbs and ...

Indian Recipes- Part 1Jul 15, 2010
As requested, here are my recipes for cauliflower and egg curry.  These are disgustingly simple recipes.  They are traditional recipes, as I was got them from a guy from Delhi I was dating, but they may represent bachelor cooking rather than good mother cooking.   I'm going to break these down into a posting for the ingredients (this one), one for the cauliflower, and one for the egg curry.    The only ingredient that you likely will not have in your kitchen f ...

Share Pea Soup RecipesOct 13, 2014
I'd like to share my pea soup recipe, and would like other ideas as well. I don't measure things, so just use your own judgment, likes/dislikes. Use a very heavy pot like an enamel pot or dutch oven. First, I take some olive oil, heat it, then sautee up some chopped garlic, onions, celery and carrots. I remove them from the pan when they're done, add a little more olive oil, then brown up a ham steak really well. Let the bottom of the pot get brown. (You can cube the ham steak ...
