I am from Chicago and we used to be able to get atomic cakes. They were filled with different kinds of fillings of your choice; i.e., fudge, banana, strawberry, custard, etc. However, I now live in Florida (St. Petersburg area) and can't find any bakeries that makes these. Tried a new whiskey fruitcake recipe, made a slight error by adding 2 cups of dried fruit instead of 1, so the cake came out really dry. Found a suggestion to poke holes in it with a skewer and pour whiskey over the cake so it would go into the cake; do this every day for a week. The texture is now good, but the taste--whoooo, baby!
