Does anyone else have a hard time staying focused?

Posted: Jan 6, 2015

I have a very difficult time staying focused.  My love for this job has completely vanished over the hellish years of working as a home medical transcriptionist.  I need to get out of this job.

Yes, it's really - bad

I tell myself I'm going to focus for an entire shift no matter what, but then that goes out the window.

Been doing this for years and years and it never used to be this bad.

I use to. It seems easier now that I'm an IC - Sm

I think its because I work more at my leisure now and the flexibility allows me that extra time I need to get myself psyched up if that makes sense. I find that its a lot easier on me if I don't have to do it all in 1 setting. But before now, yes, it was horrible as far as staying focused was concerned.

Nope, have no problems staying on track - No work, no money

I tire way too easily when doing this kind of work. I need a job where I can be more active. :(

What I Did - see msg

I don't do MT anymore, but what I did was take control. I started sending out resumes and filling out applications for non-MT jobs. I didn't get many "hits," but at least by doing that, I felt I was doing SOMETHING in the direction of getting out. It really helped me stay focused, and I did finally get out! I thought that was never possible.

Tell everyone you know you're wanting to get out of MT and need another job. Make some phone calls to local businesses to see if they need anyone for anything, even if it's just answering phones or scheduling appointments.

Even if nothing comes of it right away, it will help you, I promise. The only way to get out is to work towards it. No other jobs will come to you.

It took me 2 years, but finally something hit. It could happen for anyone here much sooner.

staying focused - phatty

It is hard to stay focused and not irritated with dictation that is poorly done -- bad dictation. I have gone back to writing down what I want to accomplish, goals for every 2 to 3 hours, and this helps some.

Low pay, demeaning wages - distracts me

like stealing my skills, using me for them but not paying me for them.

Any Advice On Staying Focused And Becoming More Productive?Jan 07, 2015
I am a pretty fast typist (110 wpm with 98% to 100% accuracy when tested by two different staffing companies).  I have been a medical transcriptionist for 16 years now with 10 of those years at home.  I get easily distracted while working at home.  This might sound silly, but I have even tried to think of my job in a different way like by pretending I was waiting on customers who needed their orders right away (The orders were the reports.).  Do any of you have any tricks for ...

Having A Hard TimeFeb 26, 2015
Sitting here at my desk crying.  Can't believe how in the last 3-4 years my income has dropped.  Barely making it.  Wondering how I will come up with money to pay rent the first of the month.  Have medical bills (not even totalling $500).  Called hospital to work out financiall help.  Went to the expense of copying and mailing them required paperwork.  Then, they tell me  they don't give help for bills under $500.  Why not tell me that BEFO ...

Having A Hard Time . . . Mar 31, 2015
Sitting here admits tears and trying to stay focused.  Four years ago today, at 4:23 a.m., my world changed.  My apartment burned to the ground with everything lost.  What a horrible thing to watch everything you own be destroyed.  Everything I had worked hard for to go up in a short amount of time.  Precious memento's left from my grandma, mom, dad and brother never to be seen again or able to be replaced.  Yes, I am thankful that my fiance and I and our pet ...

Anybody Having A Hard Time Getting Upset OverJan 14, 2010
My local news is trying to get us to donate money and I am not feeling this at all.  I wish they would cover the tent cities, the senate hearings about the financial crisis, the joblessness, the soldiers and their families....anything "American," but all I see is Haiti.  The truth is that tons of relief supplies are sitting at the airport right now and people and money on the way.  If they could not rebuild New Orleans, how are they going to rebuild Haiti?   In the list ...

Did You Have A Hard Time With The Whole Getting Older Thing?Feb 15, 2010
I will be 40 next year and am having a hard time. I see a few gray hair. I have the aches, the hot flashes. My kids are getting older. My son will be in college in a few years. I still "think" of myself as a kid I guess...a high school kid really. I don't feel I can be almost 40. This is REALLY bothering me.I guess I think 40...is my life half over? More than half? is it downhill from here? I am almost 40, and what have I really accomplished? Married and kids...that's it. I have not "m ...

What Are Our Enemies Up To While We Are Focused On The Election?Oct 12, 2016
http://www.survivopedia.com/what-are-our-enemies-up/?r=9658&source=newslette FIVE ISSUES WE SHOULD NOT IGNORE There’s a saying about the media, that’s been getting a lot of use lately. I can’t quote it exactly, but it’s something like, “When the media is blowing up about some insignificant story, look to see what they’re hiding from you.” Sadly, there’s a lot more truth to that saying, than there is importance in the things that the media wastes their time blowing up ove ...

Maybe We Should Think About Staying In Our “own Lane.” Jan 18, 2017
The election is over. Whether we like the outcome or not, the current focus should be on what each of us can do to make the next four years as good as possible for America. I worry that high-profile celebrities run a risk of having an unwarranted impact on public opinion. Being talented in one area doesn’t translate into special insight or wisdom in another, such as politics. I wonder if most of us, for example, could even find Syria on a map with both hands, three days and a flashlight. ...

63% Of Young Republicans Enrolled IN Or Staying ONAug 21, 2013
All the Obamacare provisions already in effect are proving very popular, including, as now revealed, the one allowing young adults to be covered under their parents' policies until age 26. Link to Commonwealth Fund report just out below. This latest discovery about young Republicans--that they both know about it and want it--is yet another piece of really bad news for the TPers. One guess where their parents tend to be on the subject, too. Soon, like all of us, the 27-year-olds will be ...

Ryan's Been Staying Scrupulously On Script, And Off TV, Since The Dishwashing Debacle,Oct 25, 2012
meeting tonight with Ralph Reed's "Faith and Freedom Coalition," a VERY religiously conservative group. Apparently, between both candidates working hard to keep their feet out of their mouths and Rep. Mourdoch's big mistake, they're afraid of questions that would inevitably come from the audience and couldn't be answered without great danger to the current moderate-Romney/women-have-nothing-to-fear brand being marketed. Full disclosure: R&R report this was erroneous, Rya ...

First Time Ever (long-time Voter) Had This ProblemFeb 16, 2016
Every one of them has serious flaws, either of character, personality, world view, experience, or philosophy - and in most cases more than one of these - that I simply cannot stomach. In my experience, it's always a choice between the lesser of two evils, but this election cycle seems to have brought out a spectacularly miserable collection of candidates.  And yes, Sanders and Trump supporters, I mean them too - or perhaps especially them too. It looks like I'll be sitting on my ...

Hard Question To AskJan 29, 2010
This is such a hard question to ask but you guys seem to give great advice and I need some direction.   I have been married for 21 years with 4 kids but I am finding that I have changed so much and although I love my husband I am not in love with him and I would much prefer to just be left alone.  He can be verbally abusive even though if I ever said that he would never believe it.  He does not see what others see.  I have reached a point where I just don' ...

MTs Going Through Hard TimesAug 25, 2010
Sometimes, when I read posts about MTs going through hard times (many of us these days), I think about inviting one of them to stay in my home for perhaps a year in order to get a little ahead.  I live alone in a rural area and have a lovely home.  There's not much to do here, but it's pleasant enough, and the cost of living is reasonable.  I've been through a few rough patches myself, but I'm with a pretty stable company now and am enjoying my work.  I ...

Work Hard And Get AheadMay 12, 2011
that certainly was true 100 years ago.  Not any longer.  work hard and have your 401K dissolved.  Work hard and your job is going to China.  The decisions in this country are made by the wealthy now.  Corporations count same as humans.  Corporations fund politicians (Boehnert passing out checks from tobacco companies on floor).  Quit swallowing those spoon-fed Fox platitudes. Deregulation did cause financial disaster not matter how much you repeat the fox line ...

Hard Boiled EggsJul 15, 2010
Unless you're making deviled eggs, or want to carry one in your lunch bag, you don't need the hassle of cooking it and then peeling it.  If you're going to chop it up for egg salad or curried eggs, it's way easier just to poach it hard.  Cooks faster and you don't have to deal with peeling them one at a time. I also found a curried egg recipe that I love.  It's super easy.  Just buy a jar of Alfredo sauce (in the spaghetti sauce section), add ch ...

Because Voting In Ohio Just Isn't Hard Enough..smAug 10, 2012
Ohio voting just got a little harder, not because early voting has been cut down, and not because of new ID restrictions. That's right. Republicans are doing everything in their power to ensure a win in Ohio. The latest tactic works on a county by county basis. County by county it is decided whether or not to extend hours at the voting sites. Each county has a commission comprised of two dems and two pubs. You would think this would be a good thing to extend hours in this state right? ...
