Am I wrong?

My oldest stepson (who calls me Mom) is coming home from Afghanistan to his base in Louisiana this week. My husband got a call this afternoon informing us of a homecoming party at the base on Thursday and decided there wasn't enough notice for us to take time off of work and get there. I know my boss is flexible enough that I could take the time off and he works with a lot of former military people, I'm sure they would make an exception to the 72 hour notice to see his son come home from war, so I was ready to leave hours ago and make the 17 hour drive because we will have to make lots of stops between here and there. So do I call work and take the time off and go without him or bite the bullet and stay home although it is kiilling me because it has been a long time since I have seen MY son and I want to see him safe back in the US?

Celebrate life! GO! Your son is safe home from the war zone. Work is work and I know our jobs are hard to come by. But family is first! 20 or 30 years from now, will you remember those days of work or will you remember the jubilation at seeing your son again!?

It is important to military members to have loved ones - greet them when they come home.

When my husband returned from Iraq, I was unable to go because I was in another state and had just had an emergency C-section and I know that it hurt him to have nobody there to greet him, even though he just caught another flight to where we were. He missed the excitement of the homecoming and having family there on base waiting for him. If it were my son, I think that not only would I go, I would make my husband go, too. It's always short notice when they come home because of OPSEC and all that, so the time will probably change between now and then, anyway.

Please thank your son for his service and thank his family, too!

I think definitely talk to your husband about him asking to take time off of work. I agree that his employer would probably allow it since it is such an important event. A son coming home from war is a BIG thing. If he can't get off work or won't even try, then yes, you should go and welcome your son home. Remind your husband how thankful he should be that his son is coming home alive and what a special event it will be to see him arrive. Unfortunately, men just don't have the same nurturing attitude that women have, and it's actually very sad especially in a situation like this.

When you do see your son, whether you go to welcome him home or see him at a later time, please give him a hug from me and hopefully many others and tell him thank you for his service to our country!!! They all deserve much more credit than they get.

You have already answered your own question. You know what is in your heart. And you know what, I think your attitude may become contagious and your husband will think as you do - this opportunity only comes once!!!

You said, "Am I Wrong?" Pppfftt! Don't let the door hit you in the butt on your way running out. Go Girl!!!! This is a moment your family will never ever forget, and while your son may not act like it, this will mean the world to him!! Don't doubt that for a minute.

The 17 hour drive and the days you will be there is nothing compared to what this young man has been through. Be there for him, Please!!!! Don't let anything stand in your way.

Absolutely GO. If your husband is unable to get the time off, take a close friend of your son's or a relative. It IS important! You will not regret it!

Well, called my doctor's office again and they told me that my echo was okay. Still didn't have my CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis.
