Do you think it is wrong to take flowers from a cementary? sm

This is embarrassing for me to admit but my mother has turned CRAZY lately. She lives by a funeral home and cementary that has a pond full of ducks. She started out going and watching the ducks sometimes. Then she progressed to take some flowers from a grave! I am talking about after a very recent burial with the tons of flowers the funeral home/family leave behind. She says they just die anyway so why can she not enjoy them for a few days. She has even taken bouquets of flower arrangements she got and given them out to family and friends. I think this is so wrong and I cannot stand it when she gives me these "flowers"!! Her brother told her he doesn't see anything wrong with it because if the family wanted them they would take them. My sister and I have a horrible time with this and have gone so far as to tell her she is grave robbing and can be arrested for this but because her brother said it was okay, she continues to do this. What is wrong with her and how can we make her stop doing this???

[ In Reply To ..]This is just so horrible but because her brother told her he thinks it is okay, then its okay and she will not listen to us. We have told her everything I can think of to no avail. I think he was just afraid to be honest with her is my opinion!! How can anyone think this is okay? It's not only illegal and theft in my opinion, it's disgraceful and like robbing the grave.
The first time she did this she was so proud of herself. She picked flowers out and took everyone arrangements including me, my sister, her sister, her aunt, etc. I've told her not to bring me any of those flowers anymore because I don't want haunted by the deceased. I mean this is just so crazy. I think I may call the funeral home and let them know so maybe they can give her a verbal warning or something if they see it happening.

I know it is your mother, but personally I would be so agast but you could also ask the police if they would have a talk with her, at the scene of the crime. I just cannot believe your mother is playing with a full house, though and I donât mean that ugly. Has she shown any other signs of mental breakdown, forgetfulness, other things?

Another way to look at it.. - flowers
[ In Reply To ..]Where I live, those big flower arrangements from the florists are put on the grave for a few days until they are all dried up. Then the caretaker has to clean them all up and throw them away. That's a lot of money going down the drain IMO. If they're just left behind to be tossed, I don't think it's stealing. Now having said that, if it's the arrangements that the family uses to decorate the grave, like at Memorial Day or Christmas, then yes, that's stealing.

Why don't you try buying your mom some fresh flowers once a week or a couple of times a month. I was in Wal-Mart last night and they had some beautiful roses, tulips, etc. for only $10 a bunch. Does she have flowers in her yard? If not, then when the weather warms up maybe you could plant some or help her plant some and this would prevent her from taking flowers that don't belong to her. My mom is deceased and I can tell you that if I had caught someone taking flowers off of her grave I would be extremely upset and would probably report it to the cops. Unless the weather is extremely hot or cold, most folks leave flowers on a loved ones grave for a few days before removing them, so yes, the family most likely does want them.
