Abuse of Pitbull

Posted: Dec 14, 2015

This evening on our local news they aired a video taken by a neighbor, showing a man holding a Pitbull by the chain while repeatedly bashing the dog in the head and face with all of his might.  The dog and one pup were taken from the home by our local shelter where I volunteer.  With a little luck, maybe tomorrow I can talk to the humane officer to see if I can determine the man's punishment.  He would wear the same chain while having the life beaten out of him.  The shelter is to file charges by Friday. ;

Laws Getting Tougher - Meh

I believe laws are getting tougher against humans who act like animals towards animals. If you ask me, it seems animals are generally more humane than humans. Pitbulls have gotten a bum rap. It's generally the human at fault in how they raise the pitbull and not the dog's fault if the dog misbehaves. That guy who beat the innocent dog should be beaten up to get a taste of his own medicine.

These are the same type of people who beat up babies and children. This sickens me to the deepest level. Our prisons are overrun with other types of criminals so these people are let out with a "no pets" clause and sometimes a fine. If we can't keep up with foster kids in the system getting abused, how the heck are we gonna be able to make sure this guy has no more dogs?

I am glad that the laws are getting tougher, and I agree that people tend to "profile" dogs, just like they do humans. I know because I have both a Doberman and a Rottweiler and have been accused of having "killer dogs." (Both are completely gentle and have never bitten anyone.) But--largely due to movies, etc. that feature mean Dobies and Rotties, people think of them as mean. They are actually gentle. I once knew of a man in our city who trained his collie as an attack dog. It attacked several people because that was what it had been trained to do. That poor dog finally lost its life. I did not blame the collie, but the stupid owner. I don't think beating up the owner would do any good--more violence just begets more violence. I do think people who abuse animals should face heavy jail sentences and fines. I was out walking the other day and a woman from our local shelter was walking a pit bull and she let me pet it and play with it. She asked me if I would like to adopt it and I told her that I already had a "full house," but hoped it would find a good, loving home.

I love pits and I hope that the nitwit who did this gets charged with felony animal abuse and spends a little (or a lot) of time in jail. And good for you for volunteering in a shelter!

Thanks Nick and everyone - OP

The dog and pup are now at our shelter. Today when I was leaving the shelter our director was being interviewed by a local TV station. Tonight on the news I saw the clip. She told the reporter that those who had to watch the video at the shelter had to look away several times because it was that difficult to watch. The dog is now being cared for and given a thorough examination by our wonderful staff for internal injuries, brusing and broken ribs, not to mention the head trauma. I know after the news coverage this dog and pup will find wonderful, loving homes. There are a lot of good people in this world. I agree that people who are abusive to animals will harm people as well. I am deeply hurt to learn this has happened, but at the same time I am so proud to be a part of such a wonderful organization. I will update if I learn more about the improvement and or adoption of these wonderful dogs. Forgot to mention the adorable 7-week old pup is in good condition.

Today I was out shopping, and I ran into this couple that had a large and beautiful gray pit bull on a leash. I asked them if I could pet it and they said, yes, it was friendly. I petted the dog, and he licked my arm and wagged his tail. I just wondered to myself how people can be so cruel to these animals? (Or any animal?) I told the dog that if he did not already have good owners, I would take him home with me! (I only rent an apartment, and my landlord is afraid of pits. Again, the stereotype.) But I must say, what a beautiful animal! And hats off to you and all other volunteers at shelters. There is actually a shelter near where I live and the next time I go in there I will make a contribution in your honor. Even though I do not know you, I will just say it is in honor of an anonymous volunteer.

You brought tears to my eyes with that one, Nick. That is the nicest thing you could say or do, especially at this time of year. I thank you for caring enough to remember the animals, and it speaks so highly of you to show this kindness to me as well. Thank you again.

The other day I was out shopping and ran into some people who were sitting having coffee outside at a market. I noticed a large dog under the table. He came out and wagged his tail, and I was thrilled to see a German Wirehaired Pointer. (My first up close encounter with this beautiful breed!) His name was Winston. He was so friendly, wagging his tail and loving my attention. His mom and dad were wonderful people, and the woman told me to ask Winston for his paw, which he gladly gave me. I so agree with you. How can people be cruel to animals? Meeting Winston and his family that day was exactly what I needed. He put the spring back in my step!

Verbal Abuse...Feb 11, 2010
It's me again.  I had posted this past weekend about my hubbie that didn't ask me to go to superbowl party.  Well I got over that pretty quick.  I have gotten brave enough to ask if any of you live with someone who dishes out verbal abuse to you?  I was in denial for a while, but I believe I need to accept the fact that my husband is a verbal abuser.  He says such mean things and screams.  I was feeding the dogs and let some out of the pen and he said God ...

Verbal AbuseSep 02, 2010
You all seem to have such good advice and I need opinions.  I am separated from my husband because he is a verbal abuser and I finally realized that I don't deserve to be treated this way.  Well, he has tried to change a lot and in a lot of ways he is better but he does have his moments.  I don't think I can get past the past abuse to trust the"new and improved" person.  He says "shame on me" that I don't believe that people can change.  I believe peo ...

SUBOXONE ABUSE By BFJul 04, 2010
It seems I always find the men that either had a drug past or currently has one.... so this is one of those things.  My BF is a polysomnographer and had to take his certification/registration test this past week.  He took this before and failed, apparently this test is the hardest out there (maybe like the CMT LOL!!!)  Anyways, he had always taken these pills called Suboxone and I have transcribed this, but never looked into what it was.  These pills are about $60 for 2 of th ...

Question About Healthcare & Possible Abuse. SmMay 16, 2011
My sister-in-law is in her mid 50's and not in good health; however, much (granted not all) of the problem is her lifestyle choice.  She smokes at least a pack a day, she is sedentary to the point of using a lift chair, motorized scooter & cane to get around, she is at least 100 pounds overweight and her knees are problematic for her as there is too much weight on them. She had a nervous breakdown about 30 years ago after a bad breakup, and then about 10 years later she got d ...

Unemployed Men Are More Likely To Abuse Their WivesFeb 23, 2010
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid pushed for a $15 billion jobs bill Monday by suggesting that unemployed men are more likely to abuse their wives. “Men when they're out of work tend to become abusive,” Reid said as he argued in favor of a cloture vote on the jobs bill. “I met with some people while I was home dealing with domestic abuse. It has gotten out of hand. Why? Men don't have jobs. Women don't have jobs either, but women aren’t abusive, most of the ...

Children Of Domestic Abuse Dec 18, 2012
I am extremely close with some little girls, ages 8 and 10 and their family also. I could not love these children more. Long story short, they moved away out of state and in the last few days their father was arrested for domestic abuse against the mother. He drew the children into the fight, called the mother bad names in front of the children and even told the 10 year old girl if she stayed around her mother then she would be the same and even said the b… word to the child. The mother tonigh ...

A Lot More Child Abuse Cases Lately.Dec 23, 2014
these kids should be having a wonderful time this season, getting ready for Santa Claus and baking cookies with their mom and dad, decorating the tree and being read stories before bed. But they are being beaten and taken out of their homes to live with strangers. Just breaks my heart. Honestly, sitting here crying and praying for these little babies.  What the heck is wrong with people?  ...

Anyone Else Have PTSD From MTSO Abuse?Mar 02, 2016
I have 30 years experience and am working an account specialty I have 18 years experience in.  I get responses from QA who correct documents that are were transcribed correctly and per specs, but they are just not per the personal preference of the QA person.  The platform has lots of bugs that we need to continually deal with and I've had legit errors in not remembering all the bug fixes, but overall do a good job.  I do a lot of work I am not paid for and they never show an ...

Is Not Reporting A Missing Toddler Child Abuse? Jul 15, 2011
I have listened to commentators, lawyers and jurors in Casey Anthony case and I am unable to understand how if a child goes missing and it is not reported this is not abuse.  Wouldn't the primary person providing care for a child need assistance to look for the child at a certain point and if that person didn't get proper help from authorities in a timely manner and the child was harmed or killed would that be neglect/ab ...

Soviet Style Abuse Of Psychiatry Is Now Practices In The U.S.Feb 23, 2017
enamored with many Soviet ideas in their time, trying to transplant them to the U.S. — from government diktat and central planning to academic indoctrination and propaganda through entertainment. And while the Soviet Union has gone the way of the dodo, its glorious socialist legacy is still up for the picking. One of these unparalleled Soviet achievements is the use of psychiatry to silence dissent and delegitimize political opposition, allowing the KGB to lock up dissidents in mental hospi ...

Abuse Of The Term Main Stream Media - Which I Love!May 15, 2011
I am a lover of Main Stream Media. The more I see of some of the weirdness outside the mainstream news sources, the more thankful I am that we have a good source of news that we can depend upon. Is anyone else sick and tired of hearing the term, "Main Stream Media" as if it were a bad thing, and then to make it worse, Sarah Palin's ignorant use of it as the cutsey term, "Lame Stream Media"? Pesonally, I am perfectly capable of viewing any media, whether it be on the regular networks or ca ...

Dutch Medics Euthanize Sexual Abuse VictimJul 02, 2016
Before you ask -- No, I'm not Catholic.  I'm not even religious.  But one doesn't have to have a religious affiliation to see what a dangerous "slippery slope" this is.  This is nothing but eugenics, which the "elites" LOVE because they want to decrease the world's population.  This is just one more tool in their arsenal.   Dutch medics have performed the euthanasia of a sex abuse victim who could not live with the memories of the ordeal she suffe ...

Marco Rubio's Abuse Of Taxpayer Money Gets Worse By The DayNov 04, 2015
I had heard about his misuse of taxpayer money for a long time, but I thought it was minor issues. "After reporting by the Times/Herald, Rubio did pay the Republican Party of Florida $2,400 for plane flights he double-billed to state taxpayers and the party." That is not a minor issue.  Now I don't know who would be my choice of those 14 or 18 or however many they are now.  I just don't like anything Carson stands for and his personality grates on me, so I'll leave him ...
