Unemployed men are more likely to abuse their wives

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid pushed for a $15 billion jobs bill Monday by suggesting that unemployed men are more likely to abuse their wives.

“Men when they're out of work tend to become abusive,” Reid said as he argued in favor of a cloture vote on the jobs bill. “I met with some people while I was home dealing with domestic abuse. It has gotten out of hand. Why? Men don't have jobs. Women don't have jobs either, but women aren’t abusive, most of the time. Men, when they're out of work, tend to become abusive. Our domestic crisis shelters in Nevada are jammed.”

A 2004 report prepared under a National Institute of Justice grant found that domestic violence against women occurred more frequently when their male partners were unemployed.

It's gonna cost $15 billion and create 1 million jobs. If they spent every single cent on nothing but jobs (which NEVER happens!), that equals a grand total of $15,000 per year or 7.21 an hour. Yeah, it's better than nothing, but maybe spending that money helping small businesses would be more cost effective.

The attacks here are on the posters. Not on the president. I could say the same about Bush and all the wisecracks made about the right, but the wisecrack was not made about a political figure...it was made about the poster.

And go ahead and look down the board. The right is getting attacked way more than the left. This has become a site for bashing and trashing anyone with a different opinion.

I used to get ideas and articles from this site. Now I rarely come and when I do the nasty comments are many - both sides.

By your analogy, no complicated issue would ever get resolved.

One has to wonder why you would not want steps taken to turn the economy around. It seems clear that the republican party has the philosophy that keeping things bad will allow them to point fingers at the current administration. Are you also willing to sacrifice like that so you can assign blame to the other side?

We know where he stands on specific issues. What his reasoning is (per his own words). We know how he votes. It's all public knowledge.

I beg to differ but people do know his wisdom - or lack of it rather.

It was only 9.7% in May 2009, and in December, it was 10.9. This doesn't include those who ran out of benefits. I just can't imagine how many are really out of work here.
