A MASSIVE, 8.9 magnitude earthquake just hit Japan-

Posted: Mar 11, 2011

i just watched it on CNN and a couple other channels on my PC - live - as so much water came onshore in the tsunami.  This one makes the one in Indonesia look like nothing.  This is just un-frickin-beLIEVABLE!

Update: We've now got a tsunami warning for Calif. - and Oregon. Ruh-roh.....

I have family in Southern California...Orange County area...is this going to affect them? Should I call them and wake them up? I feel sick right now.

They are not really expecting much in California... - Kendra

They are really only expecting problems from high tide and heavy surf.

I was little and a great aunt from Oklahoma called all kinds of upset because of the earthquake in Northridge. We didn't even feel it. :D

I got woken up during that earthquake when my stereo got knocked off the bookshelf and it got turned on and the DJ was saying (joking) "It's the Big One!" I was completely freaked out. My husband and I moved away from CA about 18 years ago. Now I deal with ice and snow. :-/ My kids had a 2 hour delay today for snow. Sigh....
I live on the Gulf Coast now and I would take... - Kendra

an earthquake over a hurricane any day!
I'll bet! - me

We also have tornadoes and they are so, so scary. We had one last year and it almost took out our hundred year old barn and then a month later, another line of them came through and one of them just destroyed a high school just north of here. Nature is scary sometimes.

at a little after 11:00 this morning. This is absolutely horrible. My son-in-law's brother is stationed in Hawaii and we have friends who are stationed in Japan. Praying for them all!
This is terrible - me

I have the radio on and keep listening ot the reports. They are saying that it should hit by about 7:15 to 7:30 local time. I have been praying for them too. It's a helpless feeling being so far away. Now I know how my mom feels.

But you have warning with hurricanes, next to none with Tornadoes or Tsunami's..(NM) - MT 44

take an earthquake over a hurricane any day. As far as tsunamis go, as I said, I lived in CA nearly my whole life and can NEVER remember a tsunami.

Tsunami in Crescent City - NorCalMT

[ In Reply To ..]
Crescent City has been hit by 3 large waves. The docks and boats have been destroyed and the Coast Guard is looking for 2 people believed to have been swept out to sea. Not as bad as our last tsunami, but certainly not looking good.

CNN reported it is the fifth worst earthquake in the world - since 1900.

Waiting to hear from my aunt in Tokyo. - Rainy

[ In Reply To ..]
Man, this is bad. I know, an understatement there. It hurts to watch the video of the hardest hit areas. I saw video from a newsroom where the people just stood around confused instead of diving under desks. They are so used to earthquakes, that they could not grasp the idea this might actually be serious. I remember visiting my aunt and a minor one hit while eating lunch. I was headed for the door immediately, and she calmly said "oh, earthquake," and kept on eating. It passed and all was well. Sorry about the babbling--nervous energy.

Rainy - Aunt in Tokyo - LinK

I hope you hear from your aunt soon and she's unharmed. I've been watching the news and it's so scary. I should never complain about the snow and cold here in Upstate NY. I'd take that over any of the other natural disasters that effect a lot of the country.

We finally got through and all is OK with her. - Rainy

Thanks, LinK. I have visited Upstate NY and it got dangerously cold, so yeah, you can complain. : )

I was mostly worried about the aunt since she is in her 80s and lives alone, but she was shopping and had people to help her along. It does break my heart looking at pictures of the damage, though.

Earthquake In The Northeast!Jun 23, 2010
I've only felt three earthquakes in the 40 years I have lived in Upstate New York.  I guess this was based in Ontario and we felt it all the way down here!  I hope they didn't sustain too much damage.   TV says it was a 5.5 up there.  Felt the whole house sway.  It felt like I was having a dizzy spell, but my husband felt it too.  I was far away enough to be excited about it - so cool!  But I hope nobody got hurt up in Ontario! ...

Japan's GovtMar 12, 2011
Do you think they are being truthful with the status of the nuclear plants? If not, do you think our gov't knows what's happening over there? I see people being swiped with those geiger counters and that's so frightening.   One thing I noticed over the past couple of days.  I've seen no looting or anything unlawful going on over there.  There is horrible suffering, but no one is breaking into grocery stores and emptying shelves?  Over here in the U.S., u ...

Mrs. Obama, who is 5ft 9in tall, also caused embarrassment earlier in the day when she grabbed Akie Abe, wife of Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, in a hug-and-handshake combination while the Japanese First Lady was trying to bow.In Japan, you bow. Meltdown? Three Reactors In Japan In Danger.Mar 14, 2011
At lunch time, I heard that one of the reactor's rods are fully exposed. The other two are still only partially exposed.  They are still working furiously on trying to keep the rods cool. Is it a loosing battle?  I hope not. After the explosion at the second plant, and now the third one in danger, it's worse than expected.  They have had over 401 aftershocks and they are still continuing to have aftershocks up to 6.1.  I'm afraid for the people. Haitian Money For Earthquake Relief Was Funneled Through Friends Of The ClintonsAug 01, 2016
Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation and Hillary’s 2016 presidential campaign. By all accounts, the money and what it was meant to do never really reached the Haitian people. While the Clinton Foundation only puts 10% of its donations towards charity, the IHRC was a real racket for Clinton pals, 1% went towards Haitian groups and agencies on the ground. All that is transparent is that the money didn’t go to Haiti, beyond that the trail goes cold. The money for earthquake relief ...

In particular, mainstream Protestant denominations are cashing in on the windfall by offering their services as charitable experts to help resettle the new arrivals.
