A massive cyberattack against The United States has been planned for Tuesday, and that is about all anyone knows at this point. The attack, which is only a drill so don’t panic, will take place in Washington D.C. and place former senior administration and national security officials in the roles of Cabinet members as they advise the president on what to do next.
The ones playing the role of Cabinet official have no idea what to expect. In fact, they will be responding in real-time to a stream of information on the attacks, and are expected to advise the president on everything from the initial and overall response, to potential mitigations, and perhaps retaliation.
Marc Ambinder, a journalist for The Atlantic, whose headline on the article discussing the simulated attack is the best one yet, said that considerable effort has gone in to the event, including script writers planning the attacks and a production company to re-create a White House Situation Room.
