We are preparing for a massive civil war.

Posted: Mar 5, 2013

We have problems . . . The federal government is preparing for civil uprising,” he added, “so every time you hear about troop movements, every time you hear about movements of military equipment, the militarization of the police, the buying of the ammunition, all of this is . . . they (DHS) are preparing for a massive uprising.” Hagmann goes on to say that his sources tell him the concerns of the DHS stem from a collapse of the U.S. dollar and the hyperinflation a collapse in the value of the world’s primary reserve currency implies to a nation of 311 million Americans, who, for the significant portion of the population, is armed. Uprisings in Greece is, indeed, a problem, but an uprising of armed Americans becomes a matter of serious national security, a point addressed in a recent report by the Pentagon and highlighted as a vulnerability and threat to the U.S. during war-game exercises at the Department of Defense last year, according to one of the DoD’s war-game participants, Jim Rickards, author of Currency Wars: The Making of the Next Global Crisis. ;

Homeland Security is planning for a massive - civil war.

We also know that there are 300 or more FEMA camps distributed around the country. We know that Congress has authorized 30,000 drones to conduct surveillance on the American people. We know that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had requisitioned 1.5 billion rounds of .40 calibre hollow-point ammunition, which is not even permissible for use in warfare under the Geneva Conventions. Since DHS does not conduct operations abroad, it is rational to infer (with virtual certainty) that DHS must be acquiring that massive stock of ammo for use in the United States.

And we now learn that Congress is in the process of passing H.R. 6566, “The Mass Fatality Planning and Religious Considerations Act”, which was posted on the govtrack.us website FEMA To Mobilize For “Mass Fatality Planning” (5 October 2012), mandating federal agency to respond to “funeral homes, cemeteries, and mortuaries” being “overwhelmed” in the aftermath of a mass terror attack, natural disaster or other crisis. It was posted this after having been approved by the House on 28 September 2012. Not to make an obvious point, but there is no domestic terrorist threat and no conceiveable natural disaster could possibly justify this dramatic authorization for coping with staggering numbers of bodies.

American doomsday fetish - Fanatical Hypocrite

This whole thread has really spiraled out. I'll address several of these posts.

While I assume that the government is making preparations for a complete collapse of the economy in the same way that they plan for all types of national and global apocalypses, I doubt anything special is going on.

The big bullet purchase was addressed lower down on this board by me and others. Here, again, is the NRA debunking the theory:
http://www.nraila.org/news-issues/articles/2012/federal-law-enforcement-agencies-buy-ammunition.aspx

The mass fatality act is a morbid, but not necessarily uncalled for final emergency protocol. As for there being no domestic threat or conceivable natural disaster that could create such a body count, that is ignoring the great breadth of human history. The Black Death once killed a third of the world population. The Spanish Flu left millions dead. A single outbreak of a virus, natural or part of biological warfare could leave millions dead. Radiological weapons including dirty bombs would cause massive casualties. Whether you believe climate change is man-made or natural, the frequency and severity of natural disasters is increasing. The human species is at the mercy of nature and each other.

I have the sneaking suspicion the Russians in Colorado thing is a spoof on the movie Red Dawn. If it's not, the American government would not invite the Russians. Even if Obama is the most communist communist to ever commune, he's still not calling the Russians over to help in some kind of coup. International military cooperation (including training) is as old as the League of Nations.

Regarding the drone spy program, they were already watching through your walls, listening to your calls, tracking everything you've ever bought, observing all your internet activity and tracking criminals from helicopters. Drones are the logical next step technologically, but there's pretty much no way to be more invasive without warrantless colonoscopies.

But to take a step back and look at the big picture here, what's it matter? Seriously, what does it matter? Let's say the economy does collapse. Or the government goes communist and rounds us all up. How do these possibilities effect us? What about hurricanes, volcanoes, climate change, asteroids, murder, car accidents, slip and falls, cancer, AIDS, the next big virus, all out nuclear war, alien invasion, etc.?

What course of action does one take against any of these things? If the government wants to hurt us, should we just start killing people in the street until we feel safe or until we get answers. What evidence can they provide that they won't do that? How do you prove a negative? Can you stock up on enough food to last forever? How many guns do you need before you can take on the military? Where do you hide that no other human being can find you? How do you save enough money, have enough allies, gather enough supplies before you're safe?

I think our doomsday fetish in this country is three-fold:
1. Fantasy: It's an escape from our day-to-day. When our lives feel like dead ends and we can't see the way out, it's nice to imagine a way for us to be heroes. That dream is shaped by the fictional universes we love. It's a world where each of us gets to be our own James Bond or Jason Bourne. Where we have power to effect change. Our lot in life may not be so great now, but a revolution is hitting the reset button.
2. Revenge: It's the ultimate revenge fantasy. All the bad guys reveal their true nature and it becomes socially acceptable to kill. I'm a big fan of zombie movies and as a kid I wrote an essay about what I felt their appeal to the general populace was. Once someone becomes a zombie, it is your moral imperative to destroy them. They are no longer alive, they cause only harm and who they were beforehand no longer matters. They are non-people. All social restraints that prevent human beings from exercising the animal within are removed. The problem is that fantasy must stay fantasy.
3. Naivete: The vast majority of Americans who talk about communism, socialism, fascism and military dictatorships have no idea what they are talking about. They haven't lived in a real dictatorship. They think someone placing an upper limit on drink size is fascism. Personally, I don't think they should limit drink sizes. Should we stage a bloody coup? Seems like a little much.

When you combine those three with the primordial fear of mortality, you get a recipe for chaos.

In the end, none of these conspiracies can ever be disproven. And we all succumb to fear and anxiety many times in our lives. I know I've had some really irrational fears myself. It's part of being human. The problem is that there is nothing we can do. Every human being will suffer. Every last one of us will die some day. We will all face hardship and none of us can know what that hardship will be. One day our species will go extinct, our planet will dry up, our sun will go dark, and the universe will grow cold and barren. Life is terrifying. But we can't back down. We can't give in.

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

Life is too short to worry about tomorrow so much.

Well, not quite "American." Suggest posters close - the laptops and step outside.

There have always been doomsday theorists, and you really have to take what other people say with a grain of salt. HOWEVER, having said that, I also believe that a good portion of America has their eyes shut tight and refuses to see what's going on right under their noses.

I saw someone post below about getting back to reality with mainstream media and I had to chuckle. When in recent years ANY media been trustable? I'm not sure the average American could comprehend the situations that are silenced before our ears hear it.

The wheels are slowly and quietly turning. I would find no comfort in having an underground bunker stocked with food, ammunition and supplies just in case a long line of black cars comes screaming down my road to take my family away. In that case, I feel God would be our only salvation.

I am from the Hurricane Katrina area, and I promise you, nothing is scarier than not being able to obtain even a loaf of bread for your children for 2 weeks, or hearing that there is a loaf of bread 20 miles away, but not being able to find the gas to go get it. Can you imagine walking into a Wal-Mart superstore and seeing the shelves empty? That is EXACTLY what happened here.

I have no doubt that we are about to enter a period similar to or possibly worse than the Great Depression, and I'm sure as heck going to be as prepared as I possibly can.
Why? - sm

I'm not the OP but how about sinkholes that swallow houses, hurricanes that wipe out whole cities, no jobs, no more middle class, massive corruption, GMOs and horsemeat sammies, government of the corporation, by the corporation and for the corporation. I appreciate people's attempts to inject some degree of sanity into doomsday theories, the inflammatory fearmongering is a brainwashing technique and serves no purpose in the ability to make rational decisions. But neither am I going to stick my head in the sand and say everything is just a big bowl of cherries. "Things" have gone terribly awry in this world and I'm certainly going to be as prepared as I can be for the tipping point too.
Do you believe any of this stuff is new? - Things have been worse here.
[ In Reply To ..]
I've been protesting Monsanto and GMOs for a long time now, since back when Bush was in office. The horse meat is awful because people should know what they're eating (obviously), but I also think eating cow meat is horrible, so...I guess that's a matter of lifestyle.

Fear mongering and brainwashing...I can think of when *that* has happened before, but I won't go there.

My point is, I am under no false belief that everything is honky dory, but I'm also well aware that things have definitely been worse before, and I also see a lot of positive changes taking place these days, not just the negative.
I'm sorry, but that you disagree and refuse to open your eyes - only prove how right they are. :) nm

on stocking up on food and what not. Disasters like Katrina are common place and they tend to knock out the mass distribution process. Nothing wrong with disaster preparedness.

I just find the doomsday stuff bizarre. I guess part of that is that I'm just not naturally a survivalist. I feel that life has to have some kind of point. Living to be alive doesn't seem worth it. If all my friends are dead and my government is gone and the world has been reduced to ash, why stick around? Killing a neighbor in a fight over a potato seems like poor entertainment on a Saturday night.

LOL, I like what you said about the line of black cars. Glad to hear somebody else isn't huddled in their doom bunker right now.

I had a neighbor a long time ago that was preparing for Biblical Revelations. He bragged about how he had enough food to last him months. I found it so ridiculous. First, that a believer would try to survive the literal End of Days. Second, that a few months of food would somehow keep them alive while the stars fell from the sky, all water turns to blood and men riding giant locusts descend from the skies to murder everyone. I never saw the episode of Survivor Man where he showed us how to fight the locust cavalry.

So, yeah, I have no problem if you try to outlive the next Great Depression should such a thing occur. I personally don't plan to try, but that's just me. Somebody has to carry on the human race. I've just grown too attached to antibiotics, heating, clothes and living indoors to bother. I'm just asking that until it happens, people calm down and not make imaginary problems where we already have real problems.

"Well sure as planets come, I know that they end.
And if I'm here when that happens, will you promise me this my friend?

[ In Reply To ..]
had been turned into a creative hobby, like scrapbooking or something. It was rather fascinating reading these women's happy posts about such things as stocking up multi-color sprinkles so their kids can decorate cupcakes in the bunker, and so on. Presumably the actual basics for the next many years had been taken care of long before.

BTW, regarding that rice, I finally pulled out one of two Sam's Club bags I put in a plastic tub in the basement a good 4 years or so ago. I figured I'd better see if it was good or needed to be replaced. It's perfectly fine and apparently will be for some time to come, so for those situations where water and means of cooking might be available, I recommend it as an extremely cheap, lazy person's stock.

I'm definitely with those, also BTW, not interested in surviving the collapse of civilization (how would we know if any of our grandkids might still be alive and needing us several weeks' survival-movie trek away?), but my fears don't actually extend that far and my goal is much more modest--to avoid hours standing in line for FEMA handouts.

H.R.6566 -- Mass Fatality Planning and Religious Considerations Act (Introduced in House - IH)

112th CONGRESS 2d Session

H. R. 6566
To amend the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to require the Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide guidance and coordination for mass fatality planning, and for other purposes.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
September 28, 2012

Ms. RICHARDSON introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and in addition to the Committee on Homeland Security, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned

A BILL
To amend the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to require the Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide guidance and coordination for mass fatality planning, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the `Mass Fatality Planning and Religious Considerations Act'.

SEC. 2. FINDINGS.
Congress finds the following:
(1) Emergency preparedness often plans for how to prepare and provide for survivors of a natural disaster, act of terrorism, or other man-made disaster, but fails to plan for how to prepare for and respond to mass fatalities that result from such an incident.

(2) Funeral homes, cemeteries, and mortuaries could be overwhelmed should mass fatalities arise from a natural disaster, act of terrorism, or other man-made disaster.

(3) Different religions have different customs surrounding death; for example, the Jewish and Muslim religions call for burial of the deceased not later than 48 hours after death.

SEC. 3. PREPAREDNESS FOR MASS FATALITIES RESULTING FROM A NATURAL DISASTER, ACT OF TERRORISM, OR OTHER MAN-MADE DISASTER.
Section 504 of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 (6 U.S.C. 314) is amended by adding at the end the following new subsection:
`(c) Preparedness for Mass Fatalities- In carrying out this section, the Administrator shall provide guidance to and coordinate with appropriate individuals, including representatives from different communities, private sector businesses, non-profit organizations, and religious organizations, to prepare for and respond to a natural disaster, act of terrorism, or other man-made disaster that results in mass fatalities.'.

this is simply emergency preparedness - doe

[ In Reply To ..]
This isn't a harbinger of massive civil war, for goodness sake. It's really quite straightforward:
Congress finds that emergency preparedness "fails to plan for how to prepare for and respond to mass fatalities...."

NOT having a plan in place for our citizens would be nothing short of irresponsible. It just doesn't sound like a nefarious plot to me.

Like the Russian troops in Colorado. If you were really planning to use Russian troops to take over Colorado, wouldn't you do the training in say... not Colorado?

I miss the days when the government preparing to kill us all was more secretive. They used to do all this in Area 51 and on the supposed dark side of the moon base. We wanted more transparency, but this is pushing it;)

Perhaps I misunderstood, TH. You were responding to the post: "Homeland Security is planning for a massive civil war," in which the poster pointed to H.R. 6566 as evidence of impending civil war.

When you posted: "H.R. 6566 - The full text," I thought you were in agreement with the thesis that Homeland Security is preparing for massive civil war. Otherwise, it would be hard to understand what was meant by "short and to the point."

I am not "reading extra" into posts, and I don't think it's appropriate to make this accusation in the gerund form. If I misunderstood your post, I apologize and I own it. If you meant something else, I'm all ears.

Our country is now in too much debt.
Richard Duncan, formerly of the World Bank and chief economist at Blackhorse Asset Mgmt., says America's $16 trillion federal debt has escalated into a "death spiral, "as he told CNBC.

And it could result in a depression so severe that he doesn't "think our civilization could survive it."

And Duncan is not alone in warning that the U.S. economy may go into a "death spiral."
