Feel sad because I just learned that a man

Posted: Jul 28, 2016

I respected very much had an affair.  I know him through my church and always considered him to be the epitomy of ethical, moral, etc.  He was one of a handful of people I considered the spiritual center of our church.  I don't know how to square what happened with what I thought I knew about him.  I dread having to see him and his wife again because I don't think I'll be able to act natural.  It is a very small congregation, so avoiding them won't be possible.  Just wanting to vent a little and see if anyone might have gone through something similar.

Forgiveness is key - Winston

[ In Reply To ..]
Sin happens; forgiveness is golden. No one sin is worse than another. Jesus was asked what the most important commandment was. He said there were two: Love God with all your heart, and love your neighbor as God loves us. That's all we need to know in these situations. Judging isn't an option; it's a sin. All that is left is to love him and forgive him and act like it never happened. Sounds too easy, but God makes it easy for us to unburden ourselves of such things through absolute forgiveness.

So, Who is Gossiping - see msg

So, is it the church people who are gossiping? First of all, unless this man chose to "announce" his sin, then someone gossiped something they shouldn't have--further, if it didn't come from his own mouth, then you don't even know if it really happened.

Mind your own beeswax and don't even discuss it if someone else brings it up.

FYI, a lot of bad people hide behind a cloak of holiness---it's their "cover," so I'm not sure why you are so shocked. I'm not saying this man is that--maybe he's got a miserable sex life at home or an incredibly bitchy wife--or both--but there are a lot of fakes who hide behind their religion.

What I was told - Rusty

When someone very much admired committed a sin worse than adultery, in my opinion, I was told by my friend "Hate the sin, not the sinner."

someone wanted to engage me in gossip one tine - I shrugged my shoulders and said

[ In Reply To ..]
I had more important things in life to think about. Gossip is as much a sin as adultery. Leave it alone and pray to be free of your need to think about it. IMHO, gossip is a sign of immaturity,

Amen - see msg

I can't stand when people try to engage me in gossip. I, too, shrug my shoulders and change the subject.

People who choose to listen to gossip are just as bad as those who start gossip.

I Learned Something New And Tragic TodayOct 16, 2013
Did you all know that women are not equal to men under the law on a Federal level?  As in, there is no constitutional gurantee of our rights as citizens of the US?  As in, any rights that we do currently have at the fed/state level can easily be rescinded because there is no constitutional guarantee of protection? I had no clue and I'm pretty p.o'd!! ...

Opinions - Is Drawing/paiting Something That Can Be LearnedMay 29, 2014
I don't know the word for it when someone can do something and it comes natural to them.  My mom and dad could draw/paint anything they wanted to.  I cannot, but I would like to.  Would like your opinions if you think drawing is something you can learn or a talent you are born with (think talent is the word I was looking for). Just wondering if it's worth it to try and learn or will I just be wasting my time and stuck with the idea that all I'll be able to draw is ...

Boehner Resolution To Probe When Dem Leaders First LearnedMar 11, 2010
and to refer the resolution to the Ethics Committee reached the required simple majority.  The vote breakdown is very interesting.  Bipartisan support on first vote is 402 (dems 240, pubs 162), 1 nay, 15 present and the 14 no votes.  Dems overwhelmingly supported this resoluton with only 1 dissent vote.  This would indicate a high level of confidence among house party members that the process has been fair and above board.  Looks like they are all to eager to ...

Things About The Healthcare Bill That I Learned Last Night ... (sm)Mar 26, 2010
Okay, one thing that I learned that did not have to do with the healthcare reform but instead has to do with the TARP is that over 450 billion dollars have been given to something like 13 districts that DO NOT EXIST!!!  Okay, so where exactly is this money?  Regarding the healthcare bill, I watched as a young man who had obviously taken the time to read the 2700 pages of the bill confront senators about portions of the bill.  It was shocking to see exactly how little these people ...

Why Do I Always Feel Fat?Aug 20, 2013
Anybody else have a body complex where they ALWAYS feel fat, or is it just me?  I would LOVE to be happy with my body, but I can't and it frustrates me.  A few years ago I was a size 20 and I decided to make some lifestyle changes.  My goal was a size 12 and ended up getting down to a size 6 and was ecstatic!  I was happy with this for maybe a year or so, but then I started feeling "fat" again.  I obsess over every single thing I eat, I stair at my naked body in the ...

To the OP of the military vote suppression thread, I'm sorry if I insulted you.  I tend to see everything as humorous, even serious situations, and went for the quick, stupid laugh, rather than address your statements directly.  I want to assure you that I meant nothing personal by it.  My friends and I all share a similar sense of humor, so we often poke fun at one another in a very similar way, so I'm a bit too used to verbal rough housing.  I didn't mean to ...

I Feel The NRA Is Out Of Control.Jan 09, 2013
They're threatening to sue the Tucson Police Department because the police department wants to destroy guns turned in via their buyback program. The NRA is upset, saying it's illegal to destroy the guns and they have to be sold to a licensed firearms dealer. Those guns were willingly handed over by citizens and are now the PD's property. The PD are the people who actually put themselves on the line and deal with situations arising from firearms, and if they want to destroy them, ...

How Do You Feel About Kids And CTs Or X-rays?Dec 08, 2009
A lot of doctors that I transcribe for are telling their patients as old as 18 not to get any kind of radiology done that they might not need because of the risk of cancer later in life.  When my son was 1 he fell down the basement stairs and the doctor had told me this, but also told me that the risk was very small and that it is better to know than not to know.  I think that CTs, X-rays, etc. are good things.  I have heard of so many stories where the person goes ...

Christmas Gatherings, How Would You Feel?Dec 16, 2009
Every year since my 2000 wedding have spent Christmas Day with hubs family (have daughter by another marriage, grown and out of the home). My SIL (hubby's brother's wife) and I have exchanged the dinners since the other participants really too old (70s and 80s) to host everyone, quite an ordeal to arrange for say about 15 people. Do You Ever Feel Like You Are Living In Another LifeAug 05, 2011
Okay, before anyone replies with "you're the only one who can change things" or anything like that, I know that already.  I know not to be living in a dream world, be grateful for what I have, etc.  I know all that stuff.  I'm just wondering if there are other people who feel like they are living in a different life they are not meant to be in.  I don't know how to describe it.  I feel like I'm in limbo or something.  I was pulling up some differ ...
