They're threatening to sue the Tucson Police Department because the police department wants to destroy guns turned in via their buyback program. The NRA is upset, saying it's illegal to destroy the guns and they have to be sold to a licensed firearms dealer.
Those guns were willingly handed over by citizens and are now the PD's property. The PD are the people who actually put themselves on the line and deal with situations arising from firearms, and if they want to destroy them, they should be able to without being harrassed by the (unfortunately) most powerful lobbyist group in this country.
Doesn't the NRA have other things to do, like raise $10 million for the next election or something?

"Rathner says the NRA will ask for an accounting of every weapon turned in and then go to court to stop the firearms from being destroyed. If that doesn't work, Rathner says they'll change the law.
"We just go back and we tweak it and tune it up, and we work with our friends in the Legislature and fix it so they can't do it," Rathner adds."
