rich candidates

Posted: Feb 2, 2012

I'm wondering why the talk is suddenly anti-Romney because he's rich?  If my info is correct, John Kerry and Teresa Heinz Kerry had a net worth of about $750 million when he ran for president (along with 5 or 6 very luxurious homes) but it didn't make him look like a bad guy - just a rich guy.

In other words, at what point did it become a bad thing to be a rich presidental candidate?

Personally, I don't care how much money the candidate has.  I'm more interested in the person(s) who are making those large donations to his campaign (aka bundlers).

Interesting tidbit on top of that...Heinz plant, owned by Teresa Heinz and John Kerry downsized their production drastically in Pittsburgh, Pa and moved the operation, you guessed it, out of the country for their TAX breaks granted by their buddy Clinton's NAFTA law. Devastated the community in Pittsburgh where the factory had been located for decades, laying hundres of people off. Never heard word one from the Dems about his wealth and what they did to the community to get it, which never did fully recover.

That's the problem. They're ALL rich. Ever see a - low-income person run for office & win?

[ In Reply To ..]
And they're funded by the rich donators. That makes it even worse. Rich politicians in turn stack the cards in favor of the rich who got them elected with their millions in campaign contributions. Who ends up paying for all that in the long run? We do.

The playing field should be levelled out. Instead of whoever has the most money ending up the winner, the race should be about who has the most brains, and the best qualifications to lead a nation.

One of many reasons I like Obama - No silver spoon

[ In Reply To ..]
He has actually experienced living in a single-parent family, experienced the tragedy of our health care system, experienced being a person of minority, and still managed to come out on top. I think he is sincerely trying to help the same people as where he came from.

Yes, you can!

Too bad he has not experienced running anything. - All he is trying to HELP is he reelection! nm

Obama worst - you know it

Libs/Dems screamed racist so much it's like crying "wolf". Can give them a whole list of reasons/policies you disagree with and they immediately scream racist, and ignore anything that does not fit into their talking points. Why do none of the racist screamers ever talk about his 1/2-white heritage...Hmmmmm, I think his supporters must be racist.

Obama - healthcare tragedy - way off here

[ In Reply To ..]
His mother was NEVER denied care by Obama's own admission. Obama complained because she had to fill out forms for God's sake....read the D_M book. Yeah, filling out a form to take care of yourslf is sooooooo hard compard to what us peons go through.
You think dying from cancer is not a tragedy? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
You must really identify with the bet you $10,000, don't care about the poor, let'em die, take your kids to work (and leave them there) bunch.
Comment about cancer and tragedy - is idiotic
[ In Reply To ..]
New flash, we are all going to die. Obama suffered no more than the rest of us that lost a parent, spouse, child or loved, regardless of the reason. You can start with the name calling all you want, just shows your bizarre viewpoint. His mother was NOT denied care, but complained about the forms she had to complete. How would not completing forms cure her cancer? Those were the anointed ones words...you don't like the words, write the annointed one. Otherwise, wake up, grow up, man up. Never anywhere in any post did I ever state any of the things you listed. Pretty clear you're one of those "baiters and flamers". Nice try and keep it up. Shows others the ridiculousness of some of your work. How long did it take for you to completely twist my OP?

JFK was VERY rich - .

[ In Reply To ..]
But his agenda was for the average person and civil rights. But it seems these days that rich equals anti-poor or just forget the poor. Let them wallow in food stamps rather than find some way to bring those out the trenches that desire same. Or if you're not lucky, savy, or smart as us, too bad for you. Survival of the fittest.

It's not the fact that he is rich, it's the fact that he says things that makes it appear that he is out of touch with anyone... including the middle class...

I'm not sure why you would post this if you're keeping up with his speeches of late.

Not to mention he thinks it's okay for me, making $40 per year, pays 30% tax and he pays less than 13% on millions.

I guess I should work harder or get a genius brain transplant or reinarnate into a rich family who escaped US law to Mexico to be able to practice polygamy and build an empire there and then be able to come back into the US, etc.etc.

And the "bundlers" ARE the candidate!

But it's the people who will decide.

I agree completely - empire lady

[ In Reply To ..]
It's not that he's rich, it's the fact that he, obviously, from his Freudian slips, is completely removed from the "everyday person," meaning everyone who isn't a millionaire. Why else would someone make the kind of statements that he does?

People can misspeak occasionally, but clearly, he has a bit of disdain for the common man in this country. After all, we shouldn't complain, we "poor," as we have a "safety net," and if it is broken anywhere, well, he'll fix that so we can continue to rely on that "safety net." Isn't that exactly what the right wing is so against, people using that "safety net?" We ought to be pulling all of ourselves up by our collective bootstraps. Oh wait, can't do that because so many millions of jobs have been eliminated or pay reduced so low that we HAVE to rely on that safety net just to survive. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Bottom line, he represents the very rich and the corporations, the very ones who got this world in the mess it's in now. No thanks, I don't want him (them, meaning corporations) running this country. They've already run us into the dirt.

He also represents someone smart enough to run - a business, the opposite of Obama! nm

Intelligence - mbmt
[ In Reply To ..]
There you go making stuff up again. President Obama is a Harvard graduate. Do you really think truly unintelligent people or even people with average intelligence are accepted at Harvard? You really need to come up with some better lines. You can make up whatever you want to; I certainly will not try to stop you. Do you really think by saying these things that it will stop someone (like me for example) from liking him and voting for him?
Intelligence mbmt - NO ONE CARE WHO YOU VOTE FOR
[ In Reply To ..]
There you go, spinning again. BTW, Bush is a Yale grad. "Do you really think unintelligent people or even people with average intelligence are accepted at Yale? You really need to come up with some better lines." To bad you can't follow your own train of thought. Incidentally, Bush IQ higher than Obama. Since Obama refuses to release his college records/transcripts (hmm, I wonder why??) hard to say how low it actually is. Pretty sure the leg work won't be put in to do the research. Like another poster here said, I ain't linking, documenting, posting web sites...I ant't working for you. Now go ahead and write about the grammar.

Okay....bored with you....Nothing new with your posts.

What does it have to do with Bush - mbmt
[ In Reply To ..]
I did not mention anything about Bush, probably never have on this message board. The point is that you are making up things when you say President Obama is not intelligent. I also have never said anything to you about your grammar (again, made up).
Obama intelligent-glad you think so - Not everyone shares your opinion
[ In Reply To ..]
OP never said you mentioned Bush. YOU ARE MAKING THINGS UP and attributed comments to posters that were never said. BTW, people are permitted to respond how they see fit and the way they see fit. If you don't like that, oh well. Take away the Teleprompter and Obama cannot get out a complete, coherent thought...Just saying :) Not at all impressed with his lack of intelligence.
I know... - mbmt
[ In Reply To ..]
Bush was brought into the conversation by the other poster as bait.

As for President Obama's intelligence, stating an opinion like it is a fact is not an opinion but rather making things up. I, for one, am very impressed with President Obama's intelligence.
mbmt YOU constantly state - opinon as fact
[ In Reply To ..]
Do not at all share your assumption of other poster. Poster had every right to post what they did in response to your post. No "baiting" as you claim, otherwise, could easily state that about your posts. I, also, am not at all impressed with Obama quasi intelligence. To each his own.

My Run Down Of The GOP CandidatesAug 20, 2011
After doing much research, I'm leaning towards Santorum.  Perry and Romney are nothing but democrats in disguise. As much as I like Bachmann, I just don't think a conservative woman has a chance. As much as I like Herman Cain, his lack of experience scares me. I'm on the fence about Ron Paul.  I like the way he stands on a lot of issues, but he stills come across to me as a little nutty and I don't know if he just doesn't present himself well or what. Which Candidates Do You Like?Mar 01, 2014
It seems most threads begin with something or someone people don't like - I'm more interested in what/who you do like? :) I don't know of anyone on the horizon that would fit the bill, but I'd like to see someone who isn't a party puppet - someone that isn't afraid to step outside of party lines to put the country first, rather than party politics - but they'd lose financial support if they did. And let's not forget all those lobbyists' money they ...

Candidates' Deficit Plans Don't Add UpOct 01, 2012
As the government closes the books Sunday with a $1.1 trillion deficit for the year, which required borrowing 32 cents for every dollar it spent, budget analysts have little confidence in either presidential candidate's plan to address the accumulating debt, now at about $16 trillion. The Republican nominee promises to balance the budget in eight years to 10 years, but he also offers a mix of budgetary contradictions: higher Pentagon spending, restoring cuts that Democrats made in Medicare ...

Does Anyone Feel This Way About Candidates And Our Elections, US, State Or Local?Sep 23, 2014
Gosh, I cannot understand why they have to spend so much money on elections. The thing is that if these candidates just stated their opinions and were honest with all of us, they'd get elected and re-elected.
