My run down of the GOP candidates

Posted: Aug 20, 2011

After doing much research, I'm leaning towards Santorum.

Perry and Romney are nothing but democrats in disguise.

As much as I like Bachmann, I just don't think a conservative woman has a chance.

As much as I like Herman Cain, his lack of experience scares me.

I'm on the fence about Ron Paul.  I like the way he stands on a lot of issues, but he stills come across to me as a little nutty and I don't know if he just doesn't present himself well or what.

Any others that I didn't mention...aren't worth mentioning because they are definite NOs and aren't worth mentioning...like Newt.

Just my thoughts.  Love to hear what others think...as long as you are polite.  ;)

You think Paul is Nutty and you like BACHMANN? - Examineyourhead

After the way the tea partiers have held this economy and country hostage to go after their crazy ideological agendas, you people are NUTS to even consider putting one to run this country. Every one of you should have your head examined.

I thought she said to be "nice." - hmmm

My experience is that people resort to name calling when they have no CONSTRUCTIVE arguments to offer.

How has the tea party held this country "hostage" (your word, not mine) when Liberals control the Senate and the Presidency?

Now, to answer the original poster's comments...

I also like Santorum. I liked the way he answered the questions in the debate a couple of weeks ago. His ideology is the closest match to my own of the candidates in the race.

I think you're right that this country will not allow a conservative woman to win. The only idea of Paul's that I like is abolishing the IRS and going to a flat tax or value-added tax. His thinking that it's okay for Iran to have nuclear power is disturbing.

Romney is too "insider" for me. I think Cain has good business sense, but I don't think the Republican establishment will put their weight behind him. I'm not worried about his lack of experience. Obama has been in office for 2-1/2 years and still doesn't have much sense in terms of economic policy or foreign policy.

I'd vote for Perry if he's the nominee, but I haven't been able to sort through all the mudslinging from inside and outside the party to really determine what he's all about.

As far as having my head examined...even Maxine Waters, Jesse Jackson, and Juan Williams are having second thoughts about Obama. So, who's crazy?

Let me ask you something - sm

Are some of you just totally incapable of having a civilized conversation? Also, I would like to know how the tea party is making decisions in Washington, D.C. We have a democrat in the White House and a senate controlled by the democrats. Furthermore, if Obama and the democrats had all the answers to our economic woes, then explain to me why they did VERY little if anything when they controlled everything.

I admire Michele Bachmann. Any person who would open their home to children who needed it, is someone to admire regardless of whether or not you agree with her politically. She has been bashed for having headaches. She has been bashed for mixing up John Wayne and a murderer. She has been bashed for confusing Elvis' birthday and the day he died. She has been bashed for saying she is submissive to her husband and yet I don't see her husband running for office and her standing behind him. No...she is the one running for office. Doesn't sound so submissive to me.

Regardless of how you feel about Bachmann...Obama sucks as a president. No matter how much you want to blame Bush, Obama is continuing the 2 wars. Obama ordered airstrikes on a country without the approval of congress. Obama still has Gitmo open. Obama has spent more in 3 years than Bush did in 8. Unemployment is higher under Obama. The stimulus did hardly anything at all and nothing more than wasteful spending. Obama established government controlled healthcare that will end up costing our country more money in the long run. The man, who was supposed to bring our country together, has done nothing but point fingers at others while sticking his nose in the air. The man who went to Europe and other countries and apologized for OUR arrogance is the same man who is telling the leader of Syria he needs to leave. The man has an excuse for everything. How can you look at the unemployment rate, the stock market, the continued wars, etc. and think this man has done a good job? And even if the republicans caved and there were higher taxes on the rich, it still wouldn't pay for everything and it wouldn't stop Obama from spending even more money. Every time that man opens his mouth all he talks about is....it isn't my fault and I want to spend more. More revenue by taxing the rich more is most definitely not going to get us out of this hole that we have dug for ourselves.

Obama gave himself 3 years to turn things around. You look at the numbers and see for yourself whether he has succeeded or not. The proof is right there. Unemployment higher. Debt higher. A possible double dip recession ahead of us. If you are deluded enough to praise him for those accomplishments, perhaps it is YOU who needs your head examined.

I agree with most of your assessments... - Zville MT

Especially Bachmann - if Hillary couldn't win the dem nomination, Michelle stands no chance whatsoever. However unfair it may be, this country isn't ready to elect a woman president.

I do, however, like Ron Paul. He may come across as a little nutty, like you said, but he is the one candidate that has stood firm in his beliefs for years - just check his voting record over the last 12 years in congress. I think he's the one candidate that wouldn't cowtow to anyone.

I think whoever wins the nomination should choose John Bolton as thier VP - I've never heard anyone that understands exactly what's going on in the world, why it's happening, and how it affects the US like this man does.

destroy her because they saw who she truly is and what she had actually done. She has this old fashioned thing that is bred out of so many now, called character. Goes for right not the party line. You may find you are enormously uninformed if you pay attention when she enters.

Isn't presidential material at all.

She's the one who isn't informed, and it takes much more than character to be prez.

I like Palin as well - sm

However, at this point I don't think she should run. Like it was said above, I don't think a conservative woman has a chance at winning. I wish that weren't true, but I'm afraid that it is. The best thing Palin can do is find the most conservative male running and stand behind him. To me a think Santorum being endorsed by Palin would be wonderful.

I like Santorum also, but I'm afraid he hasn't got a chance. Loved Herman Cain, in fact the first time I heard him give an interview about 2 years ago I actually emailed him and told him he had my support. But you are right, he does lack experience, but then so did Obama.

I think I'm going to have to go to Perry, but I'll tell you what, ABO, anybody but Obama.

I worry about Ron Paul running as an independent. His groupies will vote for him. A vote for Ron Paul is a vote for Obama.

I lost my job, lost my house, filed bankruptcy . . . . the only thing I have left is my sanity. And I'm worried about that too!

I couldn't agree more - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I would really like to have a candidate I can stand by 100%, but I don't believe it is gonna happen. I'm with you though...ABO all the way! No matter who gets the GOP nomination, I'll vote for them merely to get Obama out of the White House. It just irks me that the 2 people I like the best probably don't have any chance to get the nomination.....Santorum and Cain. :(

Which Candidates Do You Like?Mar 01, 2014
It seems most threads begin with something or someone people don't like - I'm more interested in what/who you do like? :) I don't know of anyone on the horizon that would fit the bill, but I'd like to see someone who isn't a party puppet - someone that isn't afraid to step outside of party lines to put the country first, rather than party politics - but they'd lose financial support if they did. And let's not forget all those lobbyists' money they ...

Rich CandidatesFeb 02, 2012
I'm wondering why the talk is suddenly anti-Romney because he's rich?  If my info is correct, John Kerry and Teresa Heinz Kerry had a net worth of about $750 million when he ran for president (along with 5 or 6 very luxurious homes) but it didn't make him look like a bad guy - just a rich guy.   In other words, at what point did it become a bad thing to be a rich presidental candidate?  Personally, I don't care how much money the candidate has.  I' ...

The Two Candidates And Their Agendas. Oct 30, 2012
The No Agenda Myth There are plenty of legitimate reasons voters (and the media) should be disenchanted by the  campaigns, but the idea that we’ll be voting in the dark is not one of them. Yes, the candidates have been reluctant to publish some unpleasant details of their policies. Most presidential candidates in modern times don’t, for the understandable reason that details can be cherry-picked for attack ads. Candidates' Deficit Plans Don't Add UpOct 01, 2012
As the government closes the books Sunday with a $1.1 trillion deficit for the year, which required borrowing 32 cents for every dollar it spent, budget analysts have little confidence in either presidential candidate's plan to address the accumulating debt, now at about $16 trillion. The Republican nominee promises to balance the budget in eight years to 10 years, but he also offers a mix of budgetary contradictions: higher Pentagon spending, restoring cuts that Democrats made in Medicare ...

I believe every single American medical transcriptionist should contact all candidates running for president and inform them of our plight (competing with India for our jobs) as well as the fact that the majority of the American population is probably not aware that their personal and medical information could potentially be sent to India. Some of the candidates have talked about bringing jobs back to America, but none has mentioned this issue. Let's inform them. I have provided an alpha ...

Does Anyone Feel This Way About Candidates And Our Elections, US, State Or Local?Sep 23, 2014
Gosh, I cannot understand why they have to spend so much money on elections. The thing is that if these candidates just stated their opinions and were honest with all of us, they'd get elected and re-elected. To me, this is a sick game politics and the whole issue of the problems in our country are not being addressed rationally and with any common sense. I think they need to educate kids on common sense in schools or otherwise we are going to have a bunch of really dumb kids who will repe ...
