Is anyone here considering voting for one of the smaller party candidates?

Posted: Oct 30, 2012

I say "smaller party" because I can't think of another way to put it right now.  I know a good many Libertarians who are voting Johnson, but I don't know anyone voting for the Green Party candidate.;

I've voted for them twice before - RC

and it was very unsatisfying.

When I voted for the Green party, George Bush won the election, and I felt totally stupid for not voting for the Democratic candidate.

But I live in a blue state, so it doesn't matter anyway, does it? LOL

Same here. I'll vote for them if it can't make a difference, - but I never considered handing W the presidency.

But then, we used to live in California, which was often in play. Now home's one of the most conservative counties in Georgia, which makes it one of the most in the nation. We're famous for it among odd political data afficionados, that and chickens. :)

I wouldn't vote for a third party this time because I dislike Romney so much. Otherwise I would consider Green Party too. I like what I've seen of Jill Stein, though I haven't really researched her positions in-depth.

Many years ago I considered myself a libertarian too. I liked the idea of small government and freedom. Went to meetings and what not. The more libertarians I met the less I believed though. They would talk a big show about giving people more choices and everyone should have the power to run their own lives, then rail against whole swaths of the population and how they shouldn't be allowed to do what they want. Islam should be illegal. Home schooling should be illegal. Abortion should be illegal. Homosexuality should be illegal. I don't know what it is about libertarianism that attracts fascists, but it certainly seemed to.

Also, my own beliefs changed. Mitch Daniels - the guy who said we are a nation of haves and soon-to-haves - has been talking a lot about how you can trust people to make the right decisions in business without any regulation. But we all know that isn't true. We can't trust people. If we can't trust people so much that we need laws about not raping and murdering each other, how can I trust the Koch Brothers with financial ethics or trust AT&T to not form a monopoly?

LOL about GWB. I thought he was a joke when he was running. I was quite shocked when he won.

California being a blue state is why I like the propositions better than the presidential race. I feel like my vote actually contributes. It doesn't usually, because I think I'm the only Californian who ever votes to raise his own taxes.

A demonstrably corrupt grifter versus an adolescent amateur.  This should be our choice? I can't vote for either of them - not out of unwillingness, but because it's a classical Hobson's choice: Eenie-meenie-minie-moe, Who is worse I do not know. Republicans - pick someone who embodies Trump's positives, i.e. America First.  It's been too long, and much too long.  THE GOVERNMENT OF EACH NATION IN THE WORLD SHOULD PUT ITS OWN INTERESTS FIRST.  We e ...

The Tea Party (disgusting And Full Of Vitrole And Hatred) Are Not The Republican Party HopefullyApr 17, 2011
I hope with everything I have in me that the Tea Party does not represent the Republican Party. This is what the Tea Party stands for. They are full of vitriole and hatred. This is not what the Republican party stands for. See comments by Republican Party of Orange County Chairman Scott Baugh, "It's just highly inappropriate, it's a despicable message, it drips with racism and I think she should step down from the committee," said Baugh. "Davenport, a tea party activist, represents t ...

My Run Down Of The GOP CandidatesAug 20, 2011
After doing much research, I'm leaning towards Santorum.  Perry and Romney are nothing but democrats in disguise. As much as I like Bachmann, I just don't think a conservative woman has a chance. As much as I like Herman Cain, his lack of experience scares me. I'm on the fence about Ron Paul.  I like the way he stands on a lot of issues, but he stills come across to me as a little nutty and I don't know if he just doesn't present himself well or what. Any ...

Which Candidates Do You Like?Mar 01, 2014
It seems most threads begin with something or someone people don't like - I'm more interested in what/who you do like? :) I don't know of anyone on the horizon that would fit the bill, but I'd like to see someone who isn't a party puppet - someone that isn't afraid to step outside of party lines to put the country first, rather than party politics - but they'd lose financial support if they did. And let's not forget all those lobbyists' money they ...

Rich CandidatesFeb 02, 2012
I'm wondering why the talk is suddenly anti-Romney because he's rich?  If my info is correct, John Kerry and Teresa Heinz Kerry had a net worth of about $750 million when he ran for president (along with 5 or 6 very luxurious homes) but it didn't make him look like a bad guy - just a rich guy.   In other words, at what point did it become a bad thing to be a rich presidental candidate?  Personally, I don't care how much money the candidate has.  I' ...

The Two Candidates And Their Agendas. Oct 30, 2012
The No Agenda Myth There are plenty of legitimate reasons voters (and the media) should be disenchanted by the  campaigns, but the idea that we’ll be voting in the dark is not one of them. Yes, the candidates have been reluctant to publish some unpleasant details of their policies. Most presidential candidates in modern times don’t, for the understandable reason that details can be cherry-picked for attack ads. Yes, identifying Romney’s plan requires some gue ...

Candidates' Deficit Plans Don't Add UpOct 01, 2012
As the government closes the books Sunday with a $1.1 trillion deficit for the year, which required borrowing 32 cents for every dollar it spent, budget analysts have little confidence in either presidential candidate's plan to address the accumulating debt, now at about $16 trillion. The Republican nominee promises to balance the budget in eight years to 10 years, but he also offers a mix of budgetary contradictions: higher Pentagon spending, restoring cuts that Democrats made in Medicare ...

Messages To Our Presidential CandidatesFeb 14, 2016
I believe every single American medical transcriptionist should contact all candidates running for president and inform them of our plight (competing with India for our jobs) as well as the fact that the majority of the American population is probably not aware that their personal and medical information could potentially be sent to India. Some of the candidates have talked about bringing jobs back to America, but none has mentioned this issue. Let's inform them. I have provided an alpha ...

Does Anyone Feel This Way About Candidates And Our Elections, US, State Or Local?Sep 23, 2014
Gosh, I cannot understand why they have to spend so much money on elections. The thing is that if these candidates just stated their opinions and were honest with all of us, they'd get elected and re-elected. To me, this is a sick game politics and the whole issue of the problems in our country are not being addressed rationally and with any common sense. I think they need to educate kids on common sense in schools or otherwise we are going to have a bunch of really dumb kids who will repe ...

and throwing their hats into the ring for the upcoming elections next year, I decided to sift through the archives of this board, going back to 2008 election and up to Obama's inauguration.  It was interesting to read all the very heated posts on both sides of the party lines.  In January of 2009, the last thing I posted on the subject of Obama was: "Time will reveal King Obama's inexperience and shortcomings." It made me wonder, where are all those passionate Obama support ...
