are completely different, as you well know, or at least you do if you are honest with yourself at all. And don't bother trying to pick a fight. I am only on for a moment, and I don't feel like feeding the fight frenzy tonight.

If you really, just want to make a point, fine. I am sorry - Colleen

if I reacted abruptly. It is just what usually happens so I guess it was my turn to just react without thinking. If I misunderstood, sorry. :)
I feel that healthcare reform is absolutely necessary and that we have a responsibility as Americans to take care of our own, first. To run a government by way of relgion is to force religion down the throats of people who may not believe in the same religion, or maybe not a all, and there is no way to function in this society in way that does not involve the government in some way. In other words, it would affect everyone, no matter what. In addition, once reigion becomes part of the government, suddenly we are trying to legislate morality which history has shown does not work.
With healthcare, we are looking out for our own in a way that positively affects EVERYONE. There is no one in this country that at some point in time will not need a doctor. People who are suffering financially, and especially in the current economy should not be going further down the tubes and dying because of an inability to pay. I, for one have no problem paying a little bit extra to support others, and I have trouble paying my bills every month. I would sleep better knowing that someone out there may be suffering a bit less or even their life may be spared in part because of my contribution. I am also comforted to know that even though we may be paying into a system we are barely using when we are young, it will be there where we are older, will likely have less money, and will need the health care more. Besides, no one is forced to use the public option. I intend to keep the insurance we get through my husbands work even if the public option became available, but it would be nice to know that if he lost his job that I, with my diabetes and my son, who is 19 and has multiple disabilities could still get health care. IMO, there is just no comparison between religion, which many feel they do not need, want no part of, or at least not in the same way, and health care, which is an absolute necessity for every American citizen.
Ok, I am getting off now. Bye.
I agree with you to a certain extent (gasp!) LOL - Hmmm

You probably won't get this til tomorrow but just wanted to respond. I think you are right on with your statement about running a government by way of religion - won't repeat your whole sentence, just wanted to say right on!!!!
I think everyone agrees that health care needs reform - both sides agree on that. But, and this is a huge BUT....not what they are proposing. They are making up numbers, created a 2200 plus page document written by lawyers (what does that tell you there). I believe we have a responsibility to offer all Americans reasonable health rates - not take care of them, but give them the tools that they can take care of themselves, and when they need more make it affordable. At the same time I do not believe we should be paying for people we do not know when we can't even afford to pay for ourselves. What this fiasco of Pelosi's crap-care plan is doing is taking away from me to give to someone else, and now I am in the negative so someone else can have it for free. At the same time I don't think anyone else should have to pay for me. Make it reasonable for everyone. I think this whole issue people keep spouting that people are dying solely because they have no health care has been blown way out of the proportion by the people who support this. Yes, I know I'll get reamed for that, but look at it...Not one person has been able to come up with an actual name/news story from the town. Not one news story anywhere in the country because someone died just because they didn't have health care. Even if you had 5 names, that's not enough proof to say millions of people all over the country are dying due to no health insurance. What it's called is they are dying because of mis-diagnosis or neglect, and there are millions of people who are dying who had the best health care.
But it still boils down to the plan. They created with 2200 plus page farce of a bill, with absolutely no input from the republicans, behind closed doors. They refuse to join it themselves because it is that bad, and they won't even allow us to join the same health plan they have. Now that sucks big time. Especially in many of Obama's campaign speeches his words were "Every American should be able to have the same health care that I have or anyone in congress has". Well okay, so let us join your health plan. Or since you won't do that, then you join this health care plan. "Whoa....no way" they say.
All I know is what everyone is saying. Watch the news (not MSNBC because they won't give you the truth), but watch the news, read the websites, listen to the economists, doctors, health practitioners, hospital administration. They are all saying this health bill will ruin the country. Now I'm hearing H. Reid is saying this will save money. What in the world is he talking about. That man definitely needs a straight jacket. That's like saying "Smoking is good for your health". 2+2 does not equal 6. Nevada needs to recall him due to incompetence. Then the SF nutcases can take back Botox lady again in a straight jacket. Those two need some serious psychiatric counseling.
Congress's health care plan - NJ
[ In Reply To ..]
If you want to give Republicans in Congress a heart attack, press for getting their health care. Or for making them take what we end up with.
Sharrod Brown (OH) refuses to take the insurance coverage offered him by virtue of being a senator. He thinks it's wrong when the constituents have the crap we do.
Hmmm, the Republican leaders said from the word go they would vote against any health care reform bill put up by the dems. From the start. They did not want to come to the table. The plan they eventually presented was a gift to pharm companies much like Bush's medicare was. They are firmly on the side of business. That puts them firmly against the interests of the public. That's really what this whole thing is about: health care for profit. Insanely huge profit.
Don't blame it on the Dems.
NJ
Maybe I came off wrong in my last note - Hmmm
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm not "blaming" democrats. I don't care who writes the health bill. I would much prefer it being written by qualified health professionals than by some group who has no experience in any of what they are writing except to "lawyer it up" (sorry can't think of another term for writing something that only lawyers can understand). I would also feel more comfortable if congress would read it rather then playing solitaire.
Particularly I don't care who writes it, I just want it to be easily understood, not 2200+ pages, not making up figures. Not costing the billions or trillions that it will cost us (you and me - the tax payer). So I don't care who writes it, but just not what they are proposing. It is bad for America and will be the destruction of our economy.
The only thing I blame the dems for is saying they are working with republicans when in fact we know they are not and the republicans are saying where, when, who.... I think we need democrats, republicans, and independents working on the bill ALL TOGETHER, all at the same time. Set 2 hours out of every day to work on it. Whether it takes 6 months, a year, two years I don't care. Take as long as is needed to work out a good plan.
This bill needs to be scrapped (fire starter), and back to the drawing board starting at day 1. Work on it no matter how long until you get it right. Don't pass something that will be the destruction of our economy, our way of life, our freedoms, all while they don't care because it will not affect them.
Thanks for reminding me, NJ, just had to call Mr Brown and let him know - I will vote NO if he votes yes on HC...thanks..nm

I believe you and I may not agree about some things, but I really like your post because you debated very respectfully and didn't demean the person you were responding to. If you were upset about something and called names, it was the person in POLITICS and their policies you blamed, not another poster. As public figures, they open themselves up to such negative comments if the shoe fits.
I wish more people would write posts like yours. Thank you.

I'd be curious to know, though, if "Hmmm" was actually the person you responded to the first time, the one who wrote "bye bye" at the end. My guess would be no or "nm" (pardon the pun).
In any event, I don't think I would have had the grace to come back and discuss with the person, especially if I thought the person was the same one who usually does those one-liners. I'm glad you have what I'm lacking and applaud you for it. :-)
It was really nice to see two people with different opinions treat each other with respect and dignity! Maybe it will be a trend.

To tell the truth I thought I was going to get reamed for my feelings/opinions. I respect you for what you said. I try to stick to issues, but I will admit sometimes I go after a poster. I think everyone does it to a certain extent. The people in politics creating the problems are the people who need to be focused on.
I think policies can be discussed and I'd really like to see posters stop attacking the other side with silly things, but then again this is the politics board. :-)
I will remember your post and in the future will try to be respectful of all. I can't say for sure though if I get attacked I won't "strike back". Just the Irish in me :-)
I have to agree with you 110% - just me

Religion is religion. It should stay in people's homes and hearts. There is no place for it in govt.
And yes the govt does not belong in our health care. Since they have destroyed everything they have "taken on" they should not be allowed to touch health care. They don't know what they are doing and they don't care about our health care because it does not affect them. Just one more way to get more tax dollars from us.
So, keep religion out of govt. My relationship with my creator is sacred, and keep govt out of health care. My relationship with my doctor is sacred also.
