The three things about this that I find inappropriately funny:
1. That a loophole lets some guy go around exposing himself to minors.
2. That nudity is still deplorable in a culture based almost entirely on sex and violence.
3. That they still make/allow kids to shower together in public schools like it's some kind of prison.

My first question as a parent would be "Wait, your making all the kids get naked at school? Are you running a school or a zoo?"

I'm sorry, I know this is a serious situation, but I can't take a "something's wrong with the public showering besides the public part" story.

I mean, isn't high school hard enough without public nudity?

The gym teacher eventually told me no one is allowed to change in the toilet stall, and we had to all get naked together like proper little forest nymphs.

Nakedness doesn't bother me now in the least, but unfortunately that kind of confidence rarely exists with a teenage girl.

And about the transgendered man, I don't really know what to think about that one. I think perhaps having high school girls using the college pool and locker room is not the greatest idea in the first place.

I'm just glad I was home schooled. I was way too shy and modest as a child to have survived public school. It's embarrassing enough being a teenager without all that.

I didn't even notice from the article that it was high schoolers using college facilities. Yeah, that does seem like a bad idea.

handle "Samantha" toweling off in the same room. Assuming that might be closer to the real story, if there is one. As for therightscoop's "version," for sure it's a total lie. All municipalities and major institutions have laws and rules in place to cover these situations. If a girl was displaying herself in an obscene manner to other girls in a sauna, the college could stop that, couldn't it?

BTW, there was a little clique of troublemaking women running around at work trying to get our transgender lady fired. When I was asked by them as they trying to rabble up a good mob, "What would you do if you saw ___ looking under the stall at you?" I told them I'd ask her if she'd lost something, then I told THEM I'd turn them in to personnel if they kept it up.

It's a liberal arts college that formed as an experimental and non-traditional college. The graduating class of 1999 invited Mumia Abu-Jamal to deliver the keynote speech. In 2008 college was designated as a "gender neutral option," offering a safe place for LGBT students in its campus housing. Some of their more progressive areas of study include such offerings as Aesthetics, African American Studies, Agriculture, Anthropology, Architecture, Art History, Community Studies, Consciousness Studies, Cultural Studies, Dance, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Gender and Women's Studies, Hydrology, International Studies, Law and Government Policy, Law and Public Policy, Leadership Studies, Media Studies, Moving Image, Music, Native American Studies, Natural History, Outdoor Leadership and Education, Philosophy, Queer Studies, Religious Studies, Sociology, Somatic Studies, Sustainability Studies, Theater, Visual Arts, and Writing.

That said, it seems to me that if parents of elementary- and high-school age kids they send there to use the pool have problems with the College stated mission, progressive students and program offerings; if they think a preoperative transgender student is "dangerous;" and if they think naked bodies in a public shower somehow represents the "poison fruit" of nondiscrimination policies, perhaps they outta check out one of the six YMCA locations in Olympia and look into their athletic programs. There's one only 3 miles from the campus. It's got a year-round pool, tons of swimming and aquatic sports programs, and gender sensitive dressing accommodations, more appropriate for those age groups.

To insure that, upon public exposure in a college women's locker room, all genitals match up and are in compliance with socially acceptable, homogenous appearance. It seeks to place greater value on the feelings and sensibilities of Biblically correct presumably straight kids over those who would dare to "monkey around" with God's intelligent design by surgically altering one's own anatomy and exercising gender identity choice....all fair game for GIANT government wingers, especially the female genitalia part.
